Agreed,, seems like after the halfway point, the scenes/storyline have become ncreasingly choppy. Looks like they were cramming too many elements from the novel version - and it ends up being confusing with the mixed up timelines as well as some character changes. I'm still enjoying it though (mostly), it is still one of the better adaptations of a novel that I've actually read.

Late to the party, but I binged this a few days ago and can't help but rewatch it already - I'm obsessed! Love the leads so much, their chemistry is 🔥🧨. Oh and from certain angles, the leads remind me of Ding Yu Xi and Dylan Wang, definitely not a complaint. Also heard that the voice actor for Chi Cheng also did DFQC in LBFAD? No wonder I'm so addicted lol.

Started reading the novel and I gotta say, this is the first time where I like the drama more than the novel lol. So glad they took out the bald heads parts 😆 and upgraded the characters. The racist comments in the novel are also a turn-off. Honestly don't know if I'll keep reading it.

Agreed - the tones were still so off that it didn't seem like they were dubbed by a Mandarin speaker at all.

But yes, the tree scene, like wow, I've read a lot of books but there was never a "tree scene" and definitely was not expecting to read it in a Chinese novel haha.

I wasn't expecting the novel to be so good! There were a bunch of scenes in the novel that would have great to see in the series like the tree scene, Yu Jin's birthday scene where all the brothers are introduced (and hilarious fight) hahaha, oh and the funny scenes with the emperor (like when he's counting his sons) - the emperor seems more serious in the series version though. And of course, all of the "murder and arson" scenes LMAO

And just to clarify, it's not that I don't like the series, it's just different. I like the main leads and how the side couples actually have more scenes. I also really liked the slight change to Ming Yue's death!
