I have to say, it was kind of satisfying and hilarious to watch the hubby suffer from the insufferable family for a change. I thoroughly enjoy how they're switching the typical gender roles of the chaebol heir and their hard-working partner with the sweet personality. π And both leads are selling it really well, too!
Omg they should have made ML gay which was theme of Thai BL WEDDING PLANNER . The thai series was also closeted…
Um, Thai dramas and Korean dramas are quite different... I think comparing them is a bit like comparing apples and oranges; both are fruit, but that's where the comparison ends. π
This show is anything but gay. I dont know how much it is discussed in webtoon but in series it is as if they…
If it were a BL, it would probably be advertised more overtly as a BL, and isn't this a tvN drama? Do BLs even air on tvN? My impression is SK keeps the mainstream dramas quite distinct from BLs, usually (unless it's a Netflix drama).
Whenever I'd see clips from this drama with the two of them from various episodes, they were always the same:…
Interesting. Yeah, I've watched some of the most highly rated Cdramas, and did like them for the most part, but the way the MLs are portrayed sometimes doesn't sit well with me, and everything feels so pristine and perfect to the point where it kind of feels like the characters live in a fantasy world; it doesn't feel real.
When I think about starting another Cdrama, I get scared off after reading comments that reinforce my reservations about the portrayals of MLs. I read the same things over and over on different threads for Cdramas even though most people don't seem bothered by the pushyness that is shown.
The two sites listed above I've never used; are they free? I don't want to subscribe to another streaming service (two is quite enough for me), and I don't like watching on illegal platforms.
I admit to being a bit annoyed with Yin Guo every time she dodged LYYβs kisses but I don't think she wanted…
Whenever I'd see clips from this drama with the two of them from various episodes, they were always the same: the ML trying to be lovey-dovey and cuddle and the FL playing coy. I became curious if the pattern would change but it seemed to continue for quite some time. I didn't even watch the drama and was getting annoyed. π
I've only seen a few Cdramas, but all the MLs have been on some spectrum of aggressive/pushy, and not at the beginning of the relationship, but when things got more intimate, and often when the FL seemed indisposed or uncomfortable with being so. Instead of in Kdramas where they usually show the aggression as a flaw to grow from early on in the MLs's arc (Kdramas have had their fair share of toxic MLs, but they're mostly older dramas), the Cdramas just give the aggression of the MLs softer edges and make them charming at the same time which makes them appear more romantic; I'm not sure how I feel about it... π€. Dare I say these portrayals sometimes smack more of sexual fantasies than healthy romance? I'm probably going to get eaten alive for saying so, but I can't shake the unease I have felt periodically while watching some seemingly "romantic" scenes in some Cdramas...
But Do Han is not the ML, right? He's the 2ML, and often 2MLs don't end up with anyone or get a loveline (that's…
I still think most 2MLs I've seen don't end up with anyone, even recent ones. And I doubt they'd give Do Han a loveline because this is SK we're talking about, and this is not a BL (and it's not a serious drama like Move To Heaven, for instance, which devoted an entire episode to this issue). That's why I think they'll go a different route with him (unless this was a Netflix drama, then it'd be more likely).
But I could 100% be wrong. If so, I will stand corrected. :)
After episode 1, not gonna lie, I like both FL's and ML's introduction. Shameless cunning π€£When she was singing…
But Do Han is not the ML, right? He's the 2ML, and often 2MLs don't end up with anyone or get a loveline (that's the majority of the time, wouldn't you say? At least in dramas I've seen; and if the 2ML does love someone (usually the FL), they can't be with them). I imagine instead Do Han's arc will be gaining confidence in being open with his family and being accepted as a good head of the company despite his sexual preferences.
I haven't read the webtoon, but that would be my guess; I also think people may be disappointed if they expect a South Korean rom-com to deal with this issue in a thoughtful way since it's aiming for funny and goofy, not profound social critique (kind of like how people wanted Dr. Slump to deal with depression, but it was mostly a plot device for the MC). 2MLs are usually used as plot devices, too (like the friend of the ML in My Lovely Liar; similar deal), so I think there's a good chance that's what Do Han will be to some extent here, too. In that case I'd say it's not homophobic, but rather typical Kdrama 2ML cliches?
I remember in the webtoon comments in the first half ppl hated the ml and found him annoying but at the end of…
Kdramas (and perhaps webtoons, in this case?) are the best at writing unlikable MLs that turn into gems and/or who become much more likable versions of themselves... I could list so many dramas that fit this category (The King2Hearts, BOFs, Princess Hours, Secret Garden, What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, True Beauty, Dr. Romantic, I'm Not A Robot, etc. I could go on and on). Maybe it's all those years of practice writing many, many dramas with jerk chaebol heirs who fall in love with hard-working poor girls with good personalities. π
I'd say it's like Love Me Love My Voice : mature and expressive boyfriend VS prudish shy girlfriend. I don't remember…
Her voice when I first heard it made me think of those American actresses in the 30's who were in silent films then who had start filming talkies and everyone found out they had squeaky voices. π I did eventually get used to her voice in HL, and HL prepared me for Love Like The Galaxy. I was definitely distracted by it at first, too, though!
The cameo from IOTNBO was cute, too. βΊοΈ
