I mean, i was rooting for the SML too, but the way y'all are tripping and hating the ML?He loved her, 8 years…
A moment ago I posted a very long essay-like xd comment on why it's not really love. Strong feelings and acts of service, yes, but they don't sum up to love. Check it out if you'd like :)
What I think Hyun Oh's defenders are missing here is the difference between being imperfect and behaving in unhealthy ways. And the difference between behaving in unhealthy ways and being toxic.
The difference between being imperfect and unhealthy is that being imperfect is just being a regular human being. "Nobody's perfect"! But a human can still own up to his or her mistakes and try to fix what's broken and make amends.
What I think the difference between imperfect and unhealthy is that unhealthy repeats itself. It becomes a pattern. But still, if one becomes aware of it, one can act accordingly and (at least try to) change that. I think Ju Yeon is also a broken human being. He showed it many times. One might say that things he does or say are unhealthy (because maybe he e.g. suffers from depression too). The way he interacts with the world, and the way he responded to Eun Ho's revealing her condition. One may name it unhealthy because it clearly hurt Eun Ho and it wasn't right for him to do so. But I would say that yes, it hurt her and I'd rather he did not say those words and mean them. But also, he reflected on that. He started to be concerned about Eun Ho, about her as a person. He wanted to file the report of the person missing and he confronted Hyun Oh (honestly, of what he did himself at the time. Although I think, he was more excused to be like that at the moment, given he just learnt he dated a personality of a woman suffering from DID, never knowing if he should see Hyer Ri he got fond of ever again). So I think Ju Yeon has the advantage over Hyun Oh and it's his self-reflection followed by caring for Eun Ho's well-being.
The thing that irritates me the most in Hyun Oh is that he thinks he cares for Eun Ho's well-being but he really cares for his own image of it. He thinks, deep emotional wounds can be dealt with by being fed, warm and generally when physiological needs are met. But human beings are not only flesh. What's more, we also are flesh, so deep emotions and traumas really take toll on our physical health as this drama really exhaustively showed, thanks to Shin Hye Sun brilliant acting. But if Hyun Oh would only notice it and would be able to change his ways once his aware of them, I would be fine with it.
The thing is, for the past 12+ years, as showed in the 10 episodes we got so far (and there are only 2 left), he confirmed to us viewers (and we have the advantage over Eun Ho of looking at it form a distance) the toxicity of his behaviours. The way he's been treating Eun Ho was not healthy but furthermore it was constantly not healthy! He went back and forth, abandoning her when he chooses and going back to her according to his whim!
Many say that he loves her. I believe he does think so too, and that he has very strong feelings towards her. But love is not only feelings. It's putting the other person first AND doing it healthily. If there is no other option, sacrificing oneself is the greatest love. But in everyday life it's possible to make little sacrifices on our ego or comfort to show love to the other person. In most cases it can be done healthily, not losing oneself, and making one happy too.
What I wanted to emphasize is that Hyun Oh thinks he's putting Eun Ho first. But he really is putting first his own IDEA of what's good for Eun Ho. Yes, he did many acts of service. Yes, they show his feelings for Eun Ho and that they are sincere. But his behaviours are toxic because he never, NOT ONCE in the whole drama took the time to think if his actions truly do Eun Ho any good and if they are what Eun Ho truly needs at that moment. And of course he never asks her about it (apart from food or whatever xdd) because why should he right?! xddd He knows what's best for her! (grrrr) He likes to think he does things because he loves her. But I really think through all those years he have fallen love with the idea od him being such a good boyfriend that he never thought about checking himself if he really is one. That's why his behaviours are toxic and by being toxic I mean he WON'T CHANGE if he gets together with Eun Ho again!!!!!
I'm gonna watch the remaining two episodes. But I honestly don't know what to expect at this point.
I agree with everyone else on why they're mad, but it is still very interesting. Ju Eun Ho's story is beautiful…
Agree... I'll probably be disappointed with the ending but I'm definitely sticking till the end. I'm glad Shin Hye Sun chose this drama. I could really relate to Eun Ho the way I could not relate to (m)any other FLs. She really outdid herself with this one ๐๐ฅนโจ
After watching all 10 eps I thought we had to hate the ML because he is a toxic red flag but I don't think Ms…
๐ญ๐ญ For real, like when you look at his behaviour for the past 12+ years, it doesn't matter he "loves her". He's been hurting her over and over again, and because of her own abandonment issues she can't let him go. I'm not mad at her as some stated here. I wouldn't call her names. I like her character and I just feel incredibly sorry for her. I believe she's got issues (even apart from her DID and abandonment issues she's got excruciatingly low self-worth which obviously ties to those other things) that make her mistake this toxic relationship with Hyun Oh for love......... ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
I can't remember when was the last time I enjoyed a series this much! It has my heart and squeezing it tightly.…
Same, I agree with everything! ๐ Her role in here is also my favourite I think (I watched her in Welcome to Samdalri and See You in My 19th life so far). And cinematography - I think it's one of the most captivating drama cinematography-wise I've watched so far
Why not? If Eunho has suppressed emotions that she desperately wants to convey and could only do it through Hyeri,…
@NoctisLC You are accentuating the reality (of the drama) yet at the same time you don't seem to be very well acquainted with the workings of a person's psyche. That's alright, everybody has their own strengths but it weakens your argument. In human psyche things don't just "disappear". Very often we're not conscious of many things, our memories, emotions and sensations from the past, but they're still there, in our body and mind but hidden or suppresed. In order for them to stop being suppressed they need to be adressed and healed/integrated. Hyeri is a side of Eun Ho's subconscious mixed with her perception of her sister Hyeri, that she needs to integrate again within herself. But Eun Ho right now is suffering depression alongside this (fictious/semi-real) DID. I think her Hyeri side is really an aid rn. Because at the state Eun Ho is right now, was she not suffering from DID, as many people said, she would probably turn toward self-harm
After 8th episode, i feel this drama very close to my heart...Eun ho's suffering totally gets into me..we always…
Yes, totally, you described what I've been feeling too about this drama. I love this drama because it's so real. Especially thanks to Shin Hye Sun's acting, which doesn't feel and look like acting, it looks like life
I love this drama, because I find comfort in being able to relate to the FL. Her staring into space feels very familiar to me because I've been there. When you feel broken inside or you've been holding on for too long, there are moments when all the emotions resurface but those moments happen in between constant bleakness, with other emotions being absent or moving beneath the surface. I'm better now. And I really hope Eun Ho will get better too and that she will heal. And that's my greatest wish for this drama
Weeeell ๐ณ๐ซ ๐ซ Now, we'll see how that one will go ๐ซ ๐ซ We can guess that the ending of ep 7 is some kind…
And I'm sorry, I wasn't getting involved in the discussion regarding Lee Jin Wook's acting skills before because I didn't think I was capable of judging it fairly, not having watched the whole drama yet especially, but if Hyun Oh was supposed to look as shocked as Eun Ho is in that scene, then I'm sorry - Lee Jin Wook doesn't sell it. He's not Shin Hye Sun level
I may be wrong because maybe Hyun Oh really IS getting married and is not so shocked to have Eun Ho overhear the news but then it shows what Hyun Oh is really made of
Weeeell ๐ณ๐ซ ๐ซ Now, we'll see how that one will go ๐ซ ๐ซ We can guess that the ending of ep 7 is some kind…
No, it must be just gossip. But how would such gossip suddenly appear, 4 years after his break-up with his girlfriend of 8 years whom he always told he would NEVER MARRY??!!
Phew... Sorry guys, however I'm supposed to sympathise with Hyun Oh, I just... I just can't root for him. I can sympathise with him but I can't root for him
Weeeell ๐ณ๐ซ ๐ซ Now, we'll see how that one will go ๐ซ ๐ซ We can guess that the ending of ep 7 is some kind of bait for us viewers โ and it surely is โ it surely is... But IF NOT โ oooh boy, oh boy
I think time should stop right now. What type of ending is that in episode 7. The director of the movie sure knows…
Yes, but that's also what's so cool about this drama. You're never really sure what will happen and what will the characters do in the next episode. Kinda like in life, people can be unpredictable
