A "Hidden Gem" Ancient Love Story
An Ancient Love Song follows the story of a book author who travels back to an ancient era, discovers the truth about a historical woman that differs from what history books say, and decides to change her fate.
I didn’t expect much since it’s such a short drama, only 14 episodes, each under 30 minutes. But I was blown away. Surprisingly, the acting is great, the cinematography is good, and the story is well written. It’s such a hidden gem.
Time travel to an ancient era is a pretty common premise, whether in Chinese dramas or series from other countries, some popular ones have already used this trope. Here, though, the writer adds something fresh with clever twists and turns, which made me curious and eager to click the next episode right away.
Actually, the first few episodes felt a bit boring to me, and I couldn’t feel any chemistry between the main leads at first. But, as the episodes progressed, I really started to enjoy their time together. Some scenes do feel like they lack detail. The ending was exactly what I expected and honestly the most realistic outcome possible.
I also want to give credit to the main actress, she portrays the female lead beautifully across different eras. I could feel her different emotions through her gaze alone.
Overall, it’s fun and warm. I enjoyed it without overthinking, yet the feeling still lingers in my heart.
