The music pleasant and the acting quite good. Overall this drama was much better than I had expected by the reviews…
The ending honestly was one of the most wholesome I had ever seen in a kdrama. It was sweet, realistic and uplifting. It made me raise the rating by half a point by itself.
The music pleasant and the acting quite good. Overall this drama was much better than I had expected by the reviews and comments. Yoon Shi Yoon is a delight as always, but I actually liked all the characters and performances. Storywise, the premise was interesting, the execution a bit lacking at times. Some scenes did fall a bit flat, others were completely unnecessary, but to me it was never bad enough to stop watching. The fact that the show was only 8 episodes of 45min also means that the story never has a chance to become boring as most kdrama tend to do at some point.
I was a little bit hesitant, but this movie is totally worth it! I was already spoilt the plot, yet the movie kept me completely invested.
The cinematography is amazing, the acting flawless and the writing pretty darn perfect. I'm not giving it a 10 because I do prefer slightly more optimistic messages, but this was nonetheless a great watching experience.
I personally found it extremely satisfying. If you want clear spoiler read below :P
The evil spirit has been inside Hwa Pyung's granfather all along, waiting for Hwa Pyung to get his psychic powers back so that it may fully possess him. Priest Yang and Assemblywoman Park were simply pawns and evil/corrupted people. Since Matthew has been cursed during the course of the series, he's no longer able to properly perform exorcism and risks death if he tries. Hwa Pyung in a last ditch effort to both save his grandfather, his friends and also defeat Son, accepts it in his own body and tries to imprison it using spells taught to him by the recently deceased Shaman Yook. Hwa Pyung seems to have died in the sea trying to bury the evil spirit forever within himself, but at the end we see that he was found by some fishermen and has been living quietly during the last year in another village, probably waiting to see if he had indeed defeated Son.
I could never quite pinpoint why I love this drama even if my brain tells me it's actually full of flaws, but reading Allyson's review I think I found the reason why. This drama flows like a RPG game and having been a fan of those it makes sense that I love this drama as well. It also helps that it has fighting scenes that seems to come out from an anime, since watching those used to be another one of my passions when I was younger.
Having my love for this drama validated, I really think that in this sense this is a very enjoyable, intriguing and I dare say even good drama. It's not a masterpiece, but it's quite unique. It has also to be said that, considering all the production trouble this drama went through, it's by itself amazing that we even got something coherent out of it.
I'm really loving this drama! It mixes comedic and emotional scenes really well and you can really feel the struggles the FL goes through. I'm personally finding her very relatable, even if I have very little motherly insticts.
Currently the only issue I'm having is that Jae Young as a character continues to be a little inconsistent. His motivations are currently all over the place...but hopefully we'll get some more glimpses of his past (both regarding his friendship with Ha Ri and also his marriage to his ex-wife) that may prove crucial to understand him better.
Wait, I thought she broke up with him because she thought she might push the blame on him because she was with…
I don't think you missed anything, that's exactly what I thought as well. I have a lot of other complaints with the drama, but this part it sort of makes sense to me.
why is this drama listed under "Dramas or Movies with deaf character and/or sign language" - https://kisskh.at/list/73DnAmg1this…
I honestly don't know, but you should ask the user who created that list. It's not an official list or anything, maybe to the user it has something related to the topic and so he/she added it to his/her own list? Anyway, I could add another drama to that list where the ML is indeed deaf: 'Can You Hear My Heart".
I'm glad I wasn't the only one finding that scene a bit creepy...She indeed does protest only very feebly, but…
I just completed episode 10 and you're right! I wasn't expecting that and I'm really curious to see how the story will go. I probably won't end up giving this show a high rating, but it really reeled me back in once more.
I feel like I should hate the present day story? I mean here he is just inserting himself in her life despite…
I'm glad I wasn't the only one finding that scene a bit creepy... She indeed does protest only very feebly, but that doesn't change the fact that him practically turing her house around with money and without her consent was somewhat disturbing. I wouldn't find it romantic even if he were her current lover; but it's very much less so considering they haven't been together for 25 years and only recently met again.
I'm not entirely out from this drama. but I'm for sure not enjoying it as much as I did for the first 4 episodes. The most enjoyable and interesting thing to me right now is how the story unfolds. By that I mean that while I do not really care for the plot points, the way they're unveiled bit after bit is captivating.
Just finished watching and you summed up perfectly my thoughts!! I'm sad because this had the potential to be…
Yes, overall the drama has a certain charm which is why I didn't go lower with the rating, but it was such a pity! PS: Ciao! A quanto pare ci siamo anche se non conosco quasi nessuno :P
I started this drama with a lot of hesitation, but I really liked it! I do understand why some watchers considered the two leads so unlikeable, but to me they do make for an interesting pair to watch. They are definitely not role models for their ethics and morals, but it's what made this drama different.
The thing with this drama is that if you do not like or find either of the two leads at least entertaining to watch, you'll probably do better to drop the whole show. The male and (especially) the female lead are at the core of the whole drama and I personally didn't find anything else to be particularly captivating. The cases were realistic, but the solutions are a bit far-fetched and since they often portray despicable people on both sides of the court, the emotional impact wasn't that big. The show has some potentially interesting secondary characters, but they were never explored much and they ended up being quite flat.
My suggestion for anyone who's hesitant about this show is to try watching the first episode. It does a good job in giving an overview on both the leads and if you don't find either of them likeable and/or compelling by the end of it, you might as well save yourself some time and drop the show right then and there.
There are shows that you know are objectively not very good, but that they are so fun to watch, good-hearted and overall well-structured that it makes the cringiness of a few scenes, the undeniable cheesyness of some others and the myriad of inconsistencies seem quite unrelevant anyway.
What made Nice Witch such pleasant and entertaining watch to me was: - that the plot is good-paced and never boring; it doesn't give you time to think too much of how little sense what you're seeing actually makes; - that the acting is on-par for all leads and supporting cast. Everyone seems to be having fun with their roles; - that the main leads do have some consistent character features and go through growth that doesn't seem too unrealistic and feels mostly earned; - that the show doesn't take itself too seriously. There are some crazy makjangish revelations in here and some scenes that are definitely inconsistent (the FL is sometimes way too skilled in areas that make little sense and the ML in the middle of the show fights through like 15 gangsters with barely a scratch...), but I found myself laughing WITH the show and not AT it.
Add to this a very fun OST, plain but competent directing/editing and you have a package that's not amazing and definitely not original, but enjoyable nonetheless!
Started watching because of the great reviews but i had to force myself through the first two eps and thinking…
The plot of the drama isn't a particularly groundbreaking one. The FL is a bit flavourless. The whole business plot is far-fetched at best. The only aspect that made me love this drama to the point that I kept it at a rating of 9/10 even after a second rewatching is the ML. Kang Min Ho is one of my favourite ML of all time and he was so fun to see him change for the better little by little through the drama. This was mostly due to Jung Kyung Ho's performance; he is a very good actor and he was especially endearing in this role. I remember the first two episodes were a bit of a pain for me to go through as well, but in my case things got better from there.
So does Min Ho end up staying himself? Or does he eventually turn into Dont Wook? I hope he stays as himself and…
Min Ho develops a lot of quirks that were peculiar to Dong Wook and even has some past memories from the late policeman, but I never felt he turned into another person. He slowly changes his outlook of life, but he is still himself. Just a better version of himself :P

At the end it seems that Hwa Pyung has sacrificed himself to defy Son, but an epilogue shows that he's still alive. Matthew and Gil Young reach him and the three are reunited. So, none of the main leads die, but it's not without suffering. If you want anything more specific spoiled, let me know!

I feel exactly the same about this show at this point :)
