In Ho was a self-centered prick back in his highschool days; he was absorbed by his own talent. But...in the context of the drama it is shown that In Ho didn't realize that the Chairman was actually fishing for information about Jung when he talked to him and his sister, so he didn't tattle on Jung consciously. He did say some hurtful things to Jung's back, but we do not know the reasons behind that, we're just shown what Jung heard. Even if he had actually meant those words, Jung's reaction to that wasn't exactly what I'd call normal...and especially not a sign that he was a 'great guy'. Also it is estabilished that Jung didn't seem to be able to properly relate to others since an early age...we do get to see one childhood scene afterall and that's before he met either In Ho or In Ha. I do like shows with character with sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies, so I honestly really find Jung an interesting character. I find him scary, though, not really because of his tendencies, but because he yields a great deal of power being from a rich and powerful family and his revenges really are greater than any damage he may have taken. He's great to Seoul NOW, but he did some pretty shitty things to her just a few months prior and who says he won't do them again later on when his feelings will dim? He needs to change and he doesn't need to change only towards Seoul who he's currently in love with...he needs to change towards people in general, even to people who sometimes do some shitty things. Because, let's face it, I'm no psychology major, but in my 33 years of age I've come to realize that no one is perfect and everyone has their selfish, lazy and even cruel moments...does that mean that we all need to take and be submitted to revenge all the time?
I'd like to add, though, that while I do like In Ho more on a personal level, I never rooted for him to get the girl in the drama either...he's honestly self-centereed and deeply immature even if he did show some improvement in the later episodes. That being said, I'm glad for the discussion and thank you for replying :P

Of course everyone is free to their own interpretations, but I didn't see In Ho actively trying to ruin the main leads' relationship. He did say a couple of bad things regarding Jung to Seoul. but they weren't simply rumors, since it's true that Jung was at least partly the reason his hand got wrecked. In In Ho's eyes Jung is a monster who crushed his dreams for no apparent reason, so I'm not finding it weird that he dropped a few words of caution to a girl he was getting close to. On the other hand, it is also true that at the beginning In Ho approached Seoul only to spite Jung. He is no saint, but I think his faults are more related to immaturity and brashness than anything else. I never really noticed any self-entitlement to the girl or obsessive behaviour from him.

Well, I just completed this drama and while it's no masterpiece, I enjoyed it. I probably am pretty much the only person who was happy with the ending, but I found it quite good. I would actually have preferred an even more open ending with no '3 years later' epilogue thing. Seoul and Jung had learned to understand and love each other, but he never extended this understanding to anyone else beside her until the very end and she had fallen so in love with him to just forgive this side of himself. I don't think it would have ended well if they had continued like that.
Since it seems the webtoon went with a different route, I'll try to read it as well. I actually started reading while watching this drama and I found the first season pretty promising.
I'm on the tenth episode and honestly it's gonna be tough to finish the rest. I really really don't like the ML…
I'm at episode 13 and maybe it's because I really had low expectation, but I'm finding this quite intriguing. I agree with you and I do prefer In Ho to Jung personally, but in the context of the story I really don't root for either of the two male leads. It's true that the story has yet to finish and I think some kinds of unepected truths might come up, but no matter what I think the three of them would be better off being alone by the end of the drama. Jung has too many issues to solve personally to come to terms on how he relates to other people and I honestly think this is something he should do on his own and/or with the help of his father. In Ho really needs to get his life back on track and he needs to overcome his attitude problems and rash way of talking. Seoul should just finish her studies, learn to assert herself without anyone's help and focus on finding her way into the world both on a work level and on a romantic one.
I'm honestly surprised I'm liking this! I started it with the bare minimum interest and with the expectation to drop it quite soon. Every character seems to have at least a few issues and no one is likeable all the time. I'm finding that refreshing somehow. I'm really liking the whole cast and I'll definitely look up other dramas by the main actress...I had droped Goblin after 2 episodes because I wasn't liking the story, but I might pick it up because of her! That being said...while I think Park Hae Jin is very suited for this type of character, he does look over 30, no way around that. It's especially obvious when he's wearing a suit, but even in his casual clothes, he looks at the very least 5 years older than anyone else around him.
I really liked the story and the themes explored in this crime drama. It felt very subdued compared to what I usually watch, but that somehow made some scenes even more heartwrenching. The acting was solid, but I wasn't particularly blown away by it. What I didn't like was the camerawork. It's obviously a stylistic choice and I'm no expert to be making competent criticism about it...but I really didn't like how often the scenes were shot so up close and often with a shaky camera.
Loved it! Both the main and supporting cast were amazing and showed great chemistry. Big credits to the writer as well, since he managed to give depth and individuality to so many characters that he made me really feel for almost all of them. There were no huge mysteries and the characters' motivations were quite straightforward, but the plot had good turns and flowed quite smoothly. There was a bit of repetitiveness going on for a few episodes in the first half of the show, but it was compensated with a good dose of humor that managed to keep me entertained, so I was never bored. The dialogues were well written, never unnecessary (beside for the PPs, but well...you get used to those after watching a few kdramas) and felt natural.
I don't think any specific details about the plot are known yet. Bae Doo Na was considering the reprisal of her role back in September and I can't find any updates regarding that yet. It might be about the matter that made the Chief Prosecutor call Shi Mook at the end of the first season...in any case since this will have the same screenwriter as the first season, I'm quite confident it'll be pretty good!
This was a very fun ride! I loved the acting and the story (while not particularly deep) had also a few emotional moments even if the comedy is for sure the selling point of this movie. One thing I didn't like much was the colour pallette they went with...I honestly found it quite ugly and I think it made all the actors' faces look sort of reddish.
Watched just one episode...this has failed to hook me in yet, but it might be the first time ever I continue watching a k-drama just because of the directing. It does look that good!
Your comment is quite old, so you might have already found out...but in any case...
I've just finished episode 4 and indeed there seems to be some romantic link between Micheal/Oh So Min and Dr. Ham Eun Ho. Up till now nothing really happened or was explained, but it does seem like they knew each other in the past (maybe before the ML became a priest?) and probably had some romantic feelings for each other, but right now neither remembers the other. I plan on dropping this show at least temporarily, so at the moment I do not know much else to add. In any case if the idea of a current priest potentially loving a woman really disturbs you, you might want to give this one a pass. Personally I do not mind the concept, but...this show feels draggy enough already.
Cute show. I particularly enjoyed the performances and the chemistry between the cast members. On the other side, I honestly expected a little bit more from the crime/mystery aspect of the show, but overall it was decent.
A funny tidbit that made me laugh when I found out: the two leads names (Seol Ok and Wan Seung) were specifically chosen to make a reference to Sherlock and Watson.
any romance? I did read the female lead is married...
Your comment is quite old, so you might have already watched this...but in any case... Yes, the female lead is married and through the show there is some friendly bantering between the male and female leads, but no explicit romance. If I'd have to explain it is sort of like the interaction that usually happens between the leads in the very first few episodes in a hate-to-love romcom. There's affection, respect, friendship and enough chemistry to potentially carry out a romance, but it doesn't get to that point at least in this season.
What a wonderfully satisfying drama! I honestly can't find much fault in this show...the acting, the directing, the music, the characterizations, the editing, the plot, the cinematography...everything was pretty much perfect or at least gave me the illusion of being so. I'm happy to say that, contrary to what I was afraid of reading some of the comments, I didn't find the female lead annoying at all! I thought she complimented the team pretty well and had both her good and bad points the same as the other two leads. Still, among the 3 leads I had a soft spot since the beginning for Yoon Hwa Pyung and he remained my favorite throughout the show.
I am honestly surprised about enjoying an horror drama so much. I generally avoid the genre because I hate jump scares, but you won't find any in here. That's not to say that the show isn't scary, but it's in an sort of 'understated' way which I kinda loved. There are also some pretty violent scenes, but the 'goryest' elements are blurred out, so the effect was dimmed for me.
This is my first 10/10 in a few months of binge-watching and my first ever in a drama not containing any romance at all. I hope there will be a second season or that at least the announced movie will be confirmed with the same main cast.
I can’t move on this drama was too good .. any recommendations such dramas
I completed this show a couple of days ago and I felt the same way.
In any case...I just finished watching Children of a Lesser God, which I didn't find as great as Stranger, but still good enough. It does have some paranormal elements though and more of a horror (but not really) vibe to it so that might be a turnoff for you.
Otherwise there's Life, which is by the same screenwriter as Stranger but it's more on the medical genre. I'm honestly waiting to watch this because it also has Jo Seung Woo playing one of the leads and I'm still reeling from his performance here...
Beautiful drama! I honestly got a little scared when I noticed this wasn't going to be about solving a different series of crimes but only one for the whole series, but I was already hooked and I never lost interest in the drama.
More than the plot, it's the characterization that held this drama together and made it an unforgettable experience. The cast's performances and chemistry were off the chart; I believe that less talented and experienced actors would have made a mess of this show since it really relies on small gestures and reactions.
Very good show! This drama managed to mix crime, paranormal, thriller, comedy, a bit of horror, and even a splash of romance...it could have been a mess, but I enjoyed it!
I honestly had a bit of a hard time getting into it for the first 3-4 episodes, but after that I was completely hooked. The show overall has a good pace with a climax (for me) from episode 10 to 14. Only thing that lowers a little bit the rating for me were the last two episodes...I'm not entirely sure why but I found them a bit underwhelming.
Thanks, I just got to episode 7. It's the first time I had to actually download a k-drama (I usually just stream them on viki or wherever available), but this one is definitely worth it!
