Wouldn’t it be perfect if Mingshu regained her memory the moment she sees Lu Chang in his wedding outfit…
I love this idea!

Haven’t watched yet, but that’s what’s going on? Oh brother.
It’s a super small scene so it’s easily to look past, if you’re so inclined. It’s hard for me to let go of because this is an issue that is getting compounded.

First, she learns that they’ve been lying to her and he isn’t her biological brother, but she isn’t overtly upset. Second, she discovers this devastating tragedy has befallen a family she can’t remember and the ML has hidden it from her, which doesn’t lead to any serious conversation or confrontation between them. Then, he tells her that his biological father is indirectly responsible for that devastating tragedy and willfully ignored her father’s plea for help, and all we get is HER comforting HIM about it.

I probably could’ve overlooked one of these things but it’s part of a larger pattern where no matter what happens, her adoration of him remains the same and he doesn’t have to face how his actions may have hurt or misled her.

And I’m not looking for some big fight or estrangement between them! He could’ve just been like, “Hey, I made these decisions on your behalf and I thought I was doing the best for you, but I can see how you might feel confused or deceived by this situation. I’m sorry. I’ll be more up front in the future.” But that never happened and he’s STILL hiding the fact that they had a falling out over his unkind rejection of her.

does everyone forget that despite knowing the truth her memories still havent returned. so other than knowing…
I don’t think her memories need to return to have her feel the pain of her family’s murders and be angry or upset that a man she knows (Director Lu) was partially responsible.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought her father went to the Master’s jail cell and the Master initiated a disagreement between them, but only so he could covertly pass evidence to her
father. I thought the gossip/cover story was that these two men were estranged while the reality was that her father was helping his master the most by visiting the prison, hiding the evidence, and writing to Director Lu for help.

Hahahaha, are they serious? 😂 He is talking about how his biological father indirectly caused her entire family’s annihilation and SHE is consoling HIM?! 🤦🏻‍♀️ She says she can’t even think about the complexity and she just feels reassured that good men like him are in government! Wtf.

Why does he get to be the upset one here when she is the actual victim of his father’s choice!? Why does she — again, the actual victim — need to comfort him!? HE should be consoling HER. But we’re supposed to believe she heard about this development in the case and just, what, rolled with it…? I guess the drama’s trying to get us to believe that her first priority is making sure her man is okay because
he’s whinging about his not-great dad. This drama extends so much sympathy to its ML and pays so little attention to the emotions of its FL, it’s crazy! Honestly, scenes like this make me feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone.

This drama is anticlimactic. Nothing major happpened after she found out she was not his sister. In today’s…
Ugh, I hated that. I was fully prepared to compromise and be content with seeing her remembering their final parting on the “wedding night” (as opposed to his full judgmental rejection moments before), but when she announced she didn’t recall any of it after waking up, I was so frustrated. Like, why show us that then?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you’re right, she’ll be upset for a small chunk of one episode because that’s all the time they can spare. 🤦🏻‍♀️

THIS! I cringed so hard when he said that!! 😂

This drama is killing me. I cannot understand why Tangli would reject Price Yu’s declaration of devotion when she’s spent this whole time scheming to get him to love her. Why would she tell Mingshu that Lu Chang had her declared his sister to help Tangli? And then, why would the drama completely drop that source of conflict between Lu Chang and Mingshu without any explanation or follow up?

Finally, I cannot figure out why Mingshu isn’t upset with Lu Chang for lying to her. The minute she finds out the truth, after the temporarily blow up with Tangli, she is right back to her default setting of adoring him. It really makes me wonder if she’ll eventually recall his rejection of her the night of “their wedding” and then be totally okay and not at all bothered by it. It’s as if this dude can do anything to her and she’ll smile right through it.

And I don’t say this because I dislike these characters. I’m commenting because it seems as if this drama continuously strips any tension or conflict out of its story. Without tension or conflict, everything feels draggy, dull, and anticlimactic.

the ridiculousness of the plot is one thing, but what annoys me the most is Lu Yu Xiao. I really liked her acting…
In her defense, she hasn’t been given much to work with.

Hahaha, good point! And I would be a lot less depressed if the drama was doing something else really well but it’s just… not? The side investigations and central mystery are as bland and anti-climatic as the “romance”. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Although I don't like su tang li method, she makes a fair point. It's easy to talk about fairness and justice…
Yeah, I completely agree. I actually think her stance is in line with other reborn/revenge heroines (like the FL in The Double), but this drama is framing that type of character less sympathetically. If you shift perspective and imagine Tangli as the FL instead, this might’ve been a more dynamic, darker story. As it is, I’m struggling to engage with Mingshu because the drama doesn’t let her have any real flaws or complexities. Lu Yuxiao is wonderful as always, but her character is blandly good.

ME TOO! I’d love more scenes of that love triangle than the villains’ creepy romance.

is it just me or their makeup looks kinda tacky. also, i was wondering why i mostly only see reuters of fl and…
Yes!! I’ve noticed Prince Rui’s foundation doesn’t match the skin tone on his neck. Once, he stepped outside in a scene, and it was painfully obvious his foundation was too white for the natural light.

They were trying to set her up with the ml. 😂(forcefully)🤦‍♀️ He is your brother.Your brother will…
That’s understandable! I also think there’s something about his constant interference with the SML that feels more brotherly. I was watching another currently airing drama and a younger sister sabotaged her older sister’s romantic date and it honestly felt identical to the ML butting in on the FL and SML here! 😂

Yea, the needing his approval and permission kinda bothered me, like what is he, your dad? Him coming to save…
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed this! I kinda hate that they try to sell her as an independent heroine because she is a businesswoman because she is never allowed to save herself or figure things out on her own anywhere else. Like you said, it’s excessive.

I also think it’s disrespectful of her when he is constantly butting into her interactions with the SML. Like, don’t you trust this person? Didn’t you just say you’re going to let her make her own
decisions? Prove it, my dude! If my brother or my boyfriend was constantly showing up when I was hanging out with a male friend, it wouldn’t be endearing or funny. I’d be pissed.

Title Serendipity Spoiler
Just finished Episode 26 and the SML situation is getting more and more ridiculous, hahaha. Like, if you compare the eye lash intimacy with the ML and the jailhouse reunion with the SML, it’s like apples and oranges. The first interaction with the ML is lifeless and dull, she’s frozen and he’s blank, and you’d miss it if you happened to blink at that moment. The second interaction with the SML is energetic and fun, they both look so happy and relieved to see each other, and it’s the beginning of this great teamwork scene.

I don’t usually prefer the SML over the ML, but here it feels like the drama isn’t bothering to make the ML more appealing. It’s as if they’re like, “Here, he’s rescued her again! Aren’t you satisfied?!” and it’s just not convincing because the SML is sacrificing and protecting her just as much, except he hasn’t cruelly rejected her or invented this ongoing
deception. When he does learn what’s going on, he also seems way more guilt-ridden in conversation with her.

Another thing that bugs me is the power dynamic between the leads. He doesn’t relate to her as an equal, the way the SML does. The ML imposes rules, constantly interferes with her relationship with the
SML, and she asks for his permission and approval a lot. The drama never really lets her save herself, the ML is always swooping in and rescuing her. More than the faux incest stuff, this dynamic between them gives me the ick.

I think all of this combines to make it feel as if the romance with the ML is being
imposed on us by the storytellers, rather than emerging organically from the
relationship onscreen.

Yeah, I don’t know how this one is going to play out, but when I heard that Hu Yixuan was taking over the FL role I was more excited to see it, not less.
