Some people say RanRan has been showing preference to SY and yet the drama has shown so far that that has not…
Agreed! I also think there have been small moments when she rebuffs him. Like, heāll step closer to her and sheāll step back from him. I donāt see what others are seeing about her behavior.

There is enough space in the comments section for fans and critics alike. Iāve already laid out what is factually accurate about the reviewerās language. If you donāt like someoneās interpretation of the violent scene, just ignore it.

Itās totally fine if you find the language of the review hyperbolic and those words arenāt the ones youād choose to describe the incident in your own review.
But the terms āwife beaterā and ābeat until bloodyā arenāt factually inaccurate. If a man beats his wife once, heās a wife beater. He isnāt a serial wife beater but he is a wife beater. Similarly, he used enough force in his violence that it resulted in blood. The drama itself verifies this by including a close up of the wound while her maid attends to it later that same night.
And again, thereās nothing wrong with your feeling for this character or your choice to defend him. But the reviewer doesnāt need to āfixā their review or rewatch the drama because theyāre examining a specific incident (when the character whipped his wife with enough force to make her bleed) when youād prefer to discuss the characterās behavior in totality (he isnāt generally characterized as a violent person). You simply have a different interpretation of his violence than the reviewer did.
i agree completely and i'd go as far as to say the 4th couple is the only one so far that feels like they're having…
Yeah, I second ALL OF THIS. But I also wanted to point out that weāve finally gotten a ML whose avoidance of women is built into his characterization in a persuasive way. His job is truly dangerous and it makes sense that he wouldnāt want to bring a vulnerable person into that orbit. Itās also been suggested via the cliff side scene that his relationships with his immediate female relatives have resulted in some sort of trauma. Interestingly, heās the only ML who hasnāt expressed any sexism in the context of his relationship with a female partner. Thereās been no sweeping and discriminatory generalizations about gender in his dialogue towards her, that Iāve noticed.

Yes! Thank you for saying what Iāve been thinking for so long!!
That scene isnāt an accident in the sense that he tripped, the whip skidded across the floor, and somehow gave her a sizable cut on her shoulder. He raised the whip with violent intent and struck his wife, leaving a bloody wound. Those are facts. No one should be excusing his violence by claiming he had another (significantly more disempowered!) victim in mind.
I donāt think anyone is a bad person because they like or want to defend a fictional character. At the same time, I donāt think itās kosher to label a description of something weāve all seen happen onscreen as a misrepresentation of facts

Totally! I did not trust this drama enough to believe she was going to be honest and then she wasā¦it took me a full minute to understand what had happened! š
Iāve written a lot of criticism of this drama and I stand by it. I still donāt think Iād recommend it to others, but MY GOD, this couple is THE CUTEST. Like you, I wish we hadnāt had to trek through the muddle of the previous episodes but Iām certainly content with where we are now and Iām crossing my fingers that it continues with the youngest sister.š¤š»š¤š»š¤š»
Let me just preface this by saying that i've been silently lurking because i don't want to rain on anyone's parade.…
I feel similarly! From the beginning, he never bullies her or gives her the cold shoulder or invents traps where sheās meant to prove herself to him. Even when he was cold, he was still generous, well mannered, and honest towards her. His avoidance of women seems based in prior life experience, not just hand-waved away as āthose were the times!ā
Now, this couple is THE CUTEST. They work together, protect one another, and genuinely seem to enjoy an equitable level of intimacy and caretaking in their marriage. Itās clear he appreciates her and sheās kind and understanding towards him. Iād totally watch a drama all about them!!

This is the same analysis of the whipping scene that I had.
It is correct to say he whipped her. That is what happened. Was she his intended victim? No. But who he was aiming for and his ultimate reason for the attempted assault on his servant are immaterial to the fact that he struck his wife with a whip and she bled from a gash on her shoulder. T
This is what the charge of manslaughter is for in the United States. If you drive after drinking and accidentally get into a car crash that results in anotherās death, you still go to jail. The reason you were drinking and the destination you were intending to reach is immaterial to the crime. Of course, extenuating circumstances are factored into sentencing decisions, but they donāt negate the fact that a crime occurred.
The eldest sister would have been much better off marrying DYXās friend. The guy might be a boring bookworm…
He also likes her for who she is and doesnāt expect anything in return, whereas it feels like DYX likes her mostly for the affection she can give him.
I hate how they try to compare this "historically accurate" drama with Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin was ahead…
Thatās such a good point! I forgot the extent of Wickhamās womanizing and how closely it mirrors Fuhuiās husband. Jane Austen was ahead of her time which is ironic because this drama is so behind its own. Itās great to find another true fan of Pride and Prejudice here.š
