I broke my tradition of silent watching over comments after reading people commenting on how 'childish' Esther Yu is.

First of all, I've watched a lot of dramas with similar tropes- Chu Li is a newbie, she's bright, bubbly and optimistic.

Of course, some of her actions are far fetched as she has a male lead who's in a 'higher' power to help her as a friend/jealous boyfriend? at times she's stuck. But she has her own principles and she's dedicated not just orally, but in the way she shows interest in every author's work.

If you're not an author, you might not realise how precious she is. For us, we're often stuck in loopholes, too many scenes and sometimes we get this huge block where we can't move. People like her who show interest so much are gods.

Esther's representation of Chu Li is far from annoying, of course some wouldn't like her pouty face...but I haven't seen her pout at the meetings when she's facing backlash from Miao and that Liang guy, we even saw her getting advised by Yu Yao that the field is ruthless... and she knows. She's curious, but its not so harmful. She doesn't cross uncomfortable lines...trust me I know much about boundaries.

So far, she's way better than the fl's I've seen in C-Dramas where they're all stuttering and blubbering. She's got a backbone, talent, passion...but also equally naive just like we all are at our starting point.

There's a quite good balance in the drama- we don't have a completely clumsy female lead nor do we have a completely stone cold male lead. So, in a way it works out fine. Do not get put off by people saying she's annoying. Give it a try.

Tbh i wished the villains has more...'villainous' intentions..rather than bullying a newbie. And the 2nd love story drags ultimately and I've sped watched it mostly. I would far as to say, the 2nd Fl, she's the weak one in the whole bunch. The 2nd male lead seems to have no sort of storyline...it feels like the 2nd leads are merely props to spend time for the episode.

All looked over, little inconsistencies, cliche 'main' halos and escape routes and storylines altered to make certain moments happen- it's quite cringy, but a cute series with a competent fl and a non 'stone-face' ml with banter, romance and books. You can watch it when you don't feel like anything's going your way, or if you feel like you don't want to process anything major.

Cheers to watching a good drama!
