Unfortunately sticking side couples will always happen, at least in DMD, because it's the easiest way to get multiple couples popular at the same time.

I believe if you give side couples tons of screentime, they'll get boring too. People mostly just like side couples because you see small glimpses of them, enough to keep you wanting more.

Great example is WinTeam. Everyone loved them in UWMA but when they got their own series, it was underwhelming.

I'd say Keng is their best actor rn. If you watched Paradise of Thorns you;ll know what I'm talking about.
