Well, if boss of my bosses was asking for me I would ask for short moment to greet someone I love and estimate and whom I haven't seen for long time. Its not like she is heart surgeon and someone would die. This scene was not needed at all. Only showed, that he is not that important for her.

But it is worthy to watch no matter the ending. And remember,for some people happy ending will be when they stay together, for others when they go separate ways and find happiness on their own. It is emotional rollercoaster but it's masterpiece.
