High potential, But not satisfactory
This drama has started on very strong. It came out around the same time as "against the current", which is a masterpiece in my opinion, so I was really excited to watch two wonderful dramas at the same time, unfortunately I was disappointed.This drama has started on super strong, the beginning was very interesting. The atmosphere very dark and ambiguous making you hooked. The revenge storyline, the characters, the acting, everything was wonderful at the beginning, which makes your blood boil and makes you jump in anticipation to know what will happen next, I dropped this around episode twenty, because it felt very incomplete. After the first few episodes the revenge was dragging on and on forever, and the female lead felf like an accessory to the male lead. Like literally, the male lead always saves her. He's the one who always do things for her. The female lead was just there doing nothing. I wanted to finish it in case it gets better later on, but I've seen some spoilers, and I do not think it will get any better. So I've decided to drop it. Honestly, it has a wonderful beginning, and a high potential, unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. Especially with against the current as its rival, it just felt much more lacking. the only good thing about this drama is the acting, and the atmosphere, the tense dark, ambiguous atmosphere was wonderful, though other things were very, very lacking: the storyline, the character development, the pace, everything else, it did not give us the satisfaction of watching a revenge drama with a good revenge.

First chinese drama and it was worth it
This was my introduction to chinese dramas, I stumbled upon an edit in tiktok which looked interesting and I decided to give it a try, I absolutely loved it, finished it in five days, never felt bored and it’s also thanks to it that i fell in love with chinese dramas and here i am a Cdrama addict.Was this review helpful to you?
random thoughts
i love Zhen huan, she deserves better. the actress was awesome, she new how to act as an innocent girl that was changed cause of the palace life to become a tough woman, and she is so pretty.i hate the emperor, he was so useless and annoying, though he did act wonderfully, but he wronged our girl so much.
they were so many painful deaths in this drama.
the actors were all so good.

absolutely wonderful
this is my first Esther Yu drama and it absolutely didn't disappoint, now i want to watch more of her dramas, this drama is a wonderful introduction to all the artists in it cause it will make you want to watch more of their works.Story: the plot of this drama was wonderful, it was very interesting and fun watching it, there might be some flaws here and there but they are totally overlooked. the drama balanced between comedy and romance and sadness, i enjoyed watching it so much. it is the type of plot that anyone will like.
Acting: the acting of all the characters was perfect, especially the leads, they felt so genuine and real, they absolutely brought those characters to life, and their acting skills just made me want to watch more of their dramas, they know how to make us forget that we are watching a drama and that these are but characters they are playing, they felt absolutely real.
Music: i enjoyed listening to all the music in the drama, they put the right music at the right time and it just made the drama better and the watching experience better.
Production: the drama in a high end drama, it shows that the budget wasn't low, the special effect were so nice, they felt almost real, but what i liked the most is the fact that they change clothes and accessories and hairstyles quite a lot, which made watching the drama a better experience.

wonderful drama
the reason i started this drama was because i love the actress, my favorite actress. seeing that she has a new drama without thinking i decided to watch, and as expected i wasn't disappointed.all about the drama was good: the cast was spot on and the acting impeccable, the plot was interesting and it kept us hooked. what i loved most is the female lead who is strong, independent and resolute. she had one goal and she stuck to it to the end, always maintaining her morals and principles, not getting soft-hearted but also not getting cruel.
Wu Jinyan is a wonderful actress in my opinion and this role suited her a lot, she really brought the character to life,
Wang Xing Yue is also a wonderful actor, not only these two but all the cast was well chosen and the acting wonderful.
the plot was very well written and interesting, it had everything in it, revenge ,romance, comedy, politics.
highly recommended.

wonderful
I cannot count how many times I have cried during this drama.It is beyond just being a drama for entertainment purpose. It teaches so many things, it goes into much more details, much more insights about life, about its ups and downs, about the fortunes and misfortunes of life, about life not just being happy or sad. Sometimes you would be happy, Sometimes you would be sad, Sometimes you would suffer, Sometimes you will feel fortunate to be alive.
We watched our female lead grow from a teenage girl that has lost her entire family in an unfortunate incident to becoming one of the most beloved, great-grandmothers, mother, friend, daughter a d wife. from not knowing who she is, what she wants to do in life to achieving much more than she ever dreamed of achieving.
She was able to become a wife, to become a mother, to become a grandma and to be the benefactor of many other people where she helped them change their life to the better.
She was able to have friends and family that loves her and care for her, she learned so many things during her life. She started from being a mere slave, a maid, and then she become a commoner, and suddenly she has become a wife to a wealthy young master.
this drama talks about what could happen in each persons life in general. How someone's life can go from being fortunate to being misfortune to again fortunate.
Not only the female lead, but all of the supporting characters' life, each and every one of them lived their own lives by their own terms, each and one of them has suffered the consequences of their actions, has been rewarded for their kindness, has been punished for the the injustice they have done to others.
This drama talks about what could happen to each person in their lives. You cannot control what happens to you, You could be the kindest person on earth. but then suddenly misfortune struck you down from nowhere.
I really love this drama. It feels like a part of me, and I cried so much during so many scenes.
another thing is the fact that we dealt with lossses so many times, we lost so many good, Wonderful people, it just makes you think about your own life, the decisions you make and how you live, and the people you're surrounded with.
I love the drama so much. And I would recommend it to anyone.
This drama teach us how to be grateful for what we have. And how to always be true to ourselves, and how to always strive to be better, how to always choose the right decisions and make the correct answers.it also teaches you to always be prepared for whatever might come to you in life, because you might be the kindest person on earth, But misfortune can suddenly struck you down at any moment.
What matters is that you never lose yourself and always thrive to make yourself become better a person and always make decisions that you will never regeret latet.
This drama talks about many aspects of love. Friendship, familial love, romantic love. And it just makes you rethink relationships with your people around you, with your spouses, your children, your friends, your family.
The acting was wonderful. You could just tell by the fact that I cried so many times during this drama. Every person acted so perfectly it felt like the characters were all alive. And we've seen the life of actual people, the main characters were wonderful. The supporting characters I just loved them so much, each and every one of them. the story was impeccable. they were so many details to actually savor and understand in a deeper meaning.
They really outdated themselves here. I lived with this drama and I feel like I've lost something now that the drama has finished. It's just one of the best dramas I have watched.
