The screenwriter didn't explain properly but as a novel reader I can explain. She never see her mother when the accident happen so she suspect her mother have a double life because she happen watch some movies about a woman that have double life/family and make fake death to close the life with her family. So because the familiar way his mother talk, the tone, the voice is the same she suspect and want to make sure.
