Episode 6 was so damn good holy shit? Mr. Smile is such a great character, gee
Also I think Mr. Smile had a bulletproof vest and only the bullet to his shoulder actually went in (usually that part is not covered by the vest). He didn't have blood anywhere else on his clothes except for that spot. The other hits were aimed at his torso so I assume that's why he's fine and we hear him at the end.
It seems like Shin might've OCD and I'm super curious about that. Hopefully it'll be portrayed well. I'm also hoping it doesn't take ages for Goon to get his memories back because at this point we all know it's gonna happen. The interesting part isn't really who he becomes when he has no bad memories, but rather the aftermath when gaining them back (regarding himself and his family). We might be facing an unreliable narrator situation when it comes to the first episode so I wonder what they'll show us in the upcoming ones. Most likely, everyone was an asshole at some point (though there's really nothing that could excuse the mother's behavior, but it's more interesting seeing characters with flaws anyways)
I'm still nervous about what the writers have decided truly happened between Shin and Goon before he fell into the water. Suicide attempt, a fight or an accident? They're trying REALLY HARD to trick us into believing Shin pushed him right now so that would be a disappointing "twist". I personally have a theory about what happened and will happen. Because they've hinted Shin does care about his brother... if Shin didn't push him, that'd mean he insisted on the surgery because he wanted his brother to get better and not be depressed anymore. At this point we know anything could trigger Goon's memories back, which in that case is something Shin would want to avoid (hence why he is super nervous about everything). Since the police is investigating the incident I feel like Shin is gonna lie and say he did push his brother, ruining his own career in the process, because it's better to have Goon believe he is an asshole than having him remember he tried to kill himself and risking his relapse. Goon's gonna hate him for a while before realizing he lied after getting his memory back yadda yadda.
Can't wait for next week episodes; I feel like I'm really gonna like this show!
for the ones who ACTUALLY finished watching the whole first episode what do yall think?? Me personally I enjoyed…
For now I'm in, I liked it and think there's huge potential. But I've seen too many dramas that don't exploit their themes and ideas well enough or decide to go for a cheap plot twist that ruins everything. It's impossible to tell how it's gonna be at the moment, especially since there's no info about the directors...
For me, what I think of it in the end will heavily depend on how they deal with the moral aspect of the memory erasing and then the family dynamic, if they're going to address how they've been treating Goon, if there's gonna be any true character development/redemption. Rn it could either be great or bad. I really wanna see what they go for.
After episode 1, I'm begrudgingly gonna assume that Shin and Goon fought, Shin accidentally or not pushed him in the water then asked that older doctor to erase his memories so he doesn't get caught. I really hope I'm proven wrong and it's a bit deeper than that bc that'd honestly be a bit cliché and boring though. It'd be nice if they could have a good relationship. They hinted that Shin does care about Goon so yeah, it'd be more interesting if he had asked hoping it'd help his brother's mental health after he tried to commit suicide or something? Would love to see them do that and deal with the dubious morality of it, how wrong it is despite the fact that he might've wanted to do it to "protect" his brother. Guess we'll have to wait and see what they decided to go for
Otherwise it was a fairly enjoyable episode, I really wanna see what happens next
Well i think they didnt buy that into the main room cause they didntwant to dumb in front of everyone? For privacy,…
Omg, thanks for the detailed summary! Honestly I wasn't planning to read the webtoon as I'm not really into that in general, but this lowkey makes me want to check it out. There are some elements that sound super interesting and it's a shame they didn't include them. The webtoon seems way darker and bloodier. Overall I liked the netflix show but it definitely seems like there was more potential to be exploited. I guess it's better not to know the source material before watching in order to get more enjoyment out of it.

Oh okay! That's interesting, thanks for sharing :) If you don't mind me asking, how does the show compare to the webtoon? I doubt I'll read it but I'm really curious whether they're that different or if they're still quite similar.

I was thinking of those portable toilet cubicles (the ones you usually see at music festivals?). Maybe that would've been too big to order but it seems they didn't even consider it so... Even with a small one like 3 had, they could've easily found a way to hide from others by tapping carboards around it (3 did something similar in his room) or buying something like those privacy curtains in hospitals... 🤔 If it wasn't actually against the rules, I guess the writers just didn't think about it or else they would've mentioned it. A bit of a shame but welp, the rest of the show was enjoyable so!
And yeah, 4 definitely sent her own down because when we saw her room during that episode (when 3 was wondering why there were so many bags) there was no trash bag in sight. She really did him dirty lol
Couldn't they just buy a portable toilet from the main room and keep it there? The area was so big, they would've had way less problems doing that than storing all that trash in someone's room. Either they're dumber than I first thought, or it was against the rules and I missed it. If someone knows whether that was mentioned please lmk! (tbh even if that was against the rules... then in that case how about everyone storing their own waste in their own room? after seeing how fast 1st floor's room deteriorated, it seems like the smart thing to do. All that drama felt a bit pointless even though I assume they wanted to show how selfish everyone got after getting used to a clean room but meh)
Other than that I thought it was good. There was a few problems, but nothing too bothering imo. Can't agree with some of the criticism here (some people mention plot holes too but don't give any details about what they were and I'd genuinely like to know). Definitely not for everyone though
Absolutely laughed my ass off at Hwang Chan Sung moving around like he didn't have a knife in his lung. This drama is so unserious, it's simultaneously the worst and the best thing I've ever watched. Nothing makes sense and nothing even matters because even if you saw someone ripped to shreds on-screen, they could come back just because the writers wanted them to. The face surgeries and face masks were already sending me back in season one but now I don't even know which of the two seasons is more hilariously absurd.
Everything is so poorly done BUT that makes it so fucking fun. I've watched many shows that were objectively better than this in every aspect but didn't get me half as excited, and that didn't leave half as strong of an impression either.
Sometimes a little bit of bad is good. A so-bad-that-it's-good kinda situation ig. This is the only drama I don't know how to rate because it's so awful, but also isn't that the whole purpose? The writers know it doesn't make sense, but that's just how it's supposed to be. I don't really watch makjang so I don't know if this degree of silliness is common, but damn boi.
This show is my guilty pleasure and honestly, I think I'll miss it.
I think it's happening cos of the system error, you know he's in a game. The game is glitching, hence the weird…
I don't mean to sound rude, sorry if I do, but I'm a bit confused. I think maybe you might've misunderstood my comment? I didn't argue that Myungha panicking was a bad thing or an abnormal reaction. It's indeed absolutely normal and it was presented so well; that's the exact reason why I wanted to see what Yeowoon would say after finding him in such a state.
About other characters digging deeper, I don't have any complaint about that either. But we know Yeowoon was going to talk to him, we just weren't showed the scene which is what I found unfortunate about that cut. It genuinely felt like they forgot something to me. My problem is purely from an editing standpoint, which had been great thus far. It's not that big of a deal, but I do think it's a shame (especially when it could've been a pretty interesting scene).
But yeah, I honestly can't wait to see where they go with all that! I have a few theories but I'm curious as to how they'll handle all this game vs. real life stuff.

For this specific case, I personally consider it bad editing. At that moment, the glitch was him being teleported from one place to another but it was over once he made it to the classroom and realized the entire day had passed.
I've already noticed they tend to cut some scenes short/not really follow up with some events, which is a given with how short the show's gonna be. It was never truly a problem before, but it was really jarring for this one scene. I just think it's a missed opportunity, but I'm really looking forward to the next episodes 👀
Okay I liked the last two episodes but wtf was that cut in E6 (about 13 minutes in), after Myungha started glitching from place to place? Suddenly he's back at school, extremely distressed, Yeowoon finds him and is worried af (as he should) and about to take him to a quieter place but then... they immediately cut to Myungha meeting that woman from marketing? It was so weird and out of place I thought they actually made a mistake while editing lol.
That scene was so good and well acted too, I feel robbed. I wanted to see how YW would try to comfort MH 🙃
I'm hella conflicted lol. The show just ended and... god, in a purely logical sense, it's bad through and through. Sure it's a makjang, but the plot twists were almost all so fucking hilariously nonsensical and simply didn't and couldn't work (there's being over the top and there's being virtually impossible). VFX were bad, OST wasn't anything impressive, the acting was... inconsistent, idk (or maybe it's just the way it's supposed to be in makjangs? I didn't watch many)? Most characters were reduced to comic relief sidekicks and even those who weren't... I couldn't help but laugh at them. Overall, the show is just goofy and its characters are lame for the most part. BUT... it was such a fun watch? Like, it's literally one of the shows I enjoyed the most this year. I was looking forward to the next episodes each week. If you just turn off your brain and don't take it seriously, it's incredibly entertaining.
I have such a hard time rating it because the logical part of my brain is telling me that this show is below average in a purely objective manner but also... it's just good at what it does, it's not trying to make any sense? Some shows are bad because they're boring and they simply fail miserably at what they try to do. But Escape of the Seven is so bad that it's great. It's not failing at what it's trying to do, it's achieving it perfectly. It's just that what they're trying to do is not to be a well thought out show. It's just trying to pile up nonsense until the viewer drowns in it and embraces it.
I guess I'll say it was my 2023 guilty pleasure. A very self-indulgent watch. I'll eagerly wait for season 2.
