*Tax evasion scandal If any Chinese actor/actress from the drama cast involved with tax evasion, the actor/actress will get ban from Chinese entertainment industry until their case get cleared. Usually that actually means they get banned permanently though because as I know, I never see any actor/actress that involved with tax scandal get to make a comeback.
If that actor/actress already finished filming a drama, it will got shelved until the drama production or the airing platform like Youku, Tencent, Iqiyi, Mangotv edit that actor/actress scene from the drama. Usually it is easy if the actor or actress only has a supporting role, they will use AI to swap the actor/actress face with another actor/actress face or they will reshoot the scene with another actor/actress or they will just cut out that actor/actress scene from the drama.

I know some people especially new watcher of Chinese dramas from international audience asking why didn't they cast Victor Ma in Hidden Love as main lead in First Frost but many Chinese & international audiences that read the novel & already watch Bai Jing Ting's dramas are satisfied with Bai Jing Ting as main actor in First Frost because he is a talented actor & they believe he can play as main male lead, Sang Yan excellently.

Not really, the rule of 40 episodes for one drama is actually short for Chinese costume dramas especially if the dramas was adapted from novels. Not to mention another rule is it's just 45 minutes for one episode of drama.
At the beginning when drama The Double was on air, there were posts on weibo about some peoples complained to authority because the duration of this drama was about 50 minutes until almost one hour long for one episode so they cut it out. Many audiences on mydramalist believe it's just a rumor but I believe they really cut it out. The next episodes until final episode that aired after the complained issue were just about 46 minutes until 48 minutes long.
There are other main couple scene that get cut out from drama based on some fan made video that I watch on bilibili (Chinese social media like youtube) before this but that videos got deleted now so I couldn't share with other people here.
Since The Double was one of Yu Zheng's drama, just like his other dramas, the scenes between main couple are minimal so maybe that's why people don't realize much if main couple sweet scenes were deleted.
Since one of the reason Yu Zheng become popular is because of his lousy personality that pissed off many people, maybe there will be people complained again to authority if his next dramas airing for more than 45 minutes per episode.

This drama was filmed in 2023 but I read on X that about a week before the drama's ending on air, Youku dicussed with main actor, Wang Xing Yue about the ending.
The Double become unexpected hit during on air despite both main casts, Wang Xing Yue & Wu Jin Yan are not traffic actor/actress yet before this so Youku milked this drama to gain more profit by changing the schedule for the airing time so the fans need to pay more to watch the episodes early. I think Youku scared the fans will scold them about the ambiguous ending of this drama so they try to give a more clear ending for this drama.
At first Youku asked Wang Xing Yue to do voice record for the narrative for ending but then Wang Xing Yue discussed with the drama director & producer so they filmed the extra episode for the drama.

*Limit episode for dramas.

But they are kinda lenient for duration of the drama rule so you can find many dramas usually could have 46 until 48 minutes, sometimes even reached until almost one hour for one episode, well, unless if there's people report about almost one hour duration to the authority so the drama will get cut down back to 45 until 48 minutes.
If they want to produce drama with more than 40 episodes, they need to separate the drama to two seasons and wait about one year after first season finished on air to get the second season on air.

In short, you need to emphasized to the audience that rebirth storyline is only a part of fantasy/imagination that's why Chinese xianxia drama could do the rebirth plot freely without censorship because xianxia is a fantasy genre.
I wonder about drama adaptation for Rebirth Of The Malicious Empress Of Military Lineage since this has rebirth plot.
*Tax evasion scandal
If any Chinese actor/actress from the drama cast involved with tax evasion, the actor/actress will get ban from Chinese entertainment industry until their case get cleared. Usually that actually means they get banned permanently though because as I know, I never see any actor/actress that involved with tax scandal get to make a comeback.
If that actor/actress already finished filming a drama, it will got shelved until the drama production or the airing platform like Youku, Tencent, Iqiyi, Mangotv edit that actor/actress scene from the drama. Usually it is easy if the actor or actress only has a supporting role, they will use AI to swap the actor/actress face with another actor/actress face or they will reshoot the scene with another actor/actress or they will just cut out that actor/actress scene from the drama.
But if the actor/actress is the main cast, they need more budget if they want to reshoot with another actor/actress that's why you could see dramas with main cast involved in tax scandal got shelved until you don’t know when.

At the beginning when drama The Double was on air, there were posts on weibo about some peoples complained to authority because the duration of this drama was about 50 minutes until almost one hour long for one episode so they cut it out. Many audiences on mydramalist believe it's just a rumor but I believe they really cut it out. The next episodes until final episode that aired after the complained issue were just about 46 minutes until 48 minutes long.

There are other main couple scene that get cut out from drama based on some fan made video that I watch on bilibili (Chinese social media like youtube) before this but that videos got deleted now so I couldn't share with other people here.
Since The Double was one of Yu Zheng's drama, just like his other dramas, the scenes between main couple are minimal so maybe that's why people don't realize much if main couple sweet scenes were deleted.

Actresses like Zhao Lu Si, Bai Lu, Yang Zi are already popular and active in main roles unlike Wu Jin Yan, Zhou Ye & Chen Du Ling so I don't think they will act in these Qian Shan Cha Ke's novel adaptation.
I watch dramas produced by Yu Zheng other than The Double & usually his dramas have these characteristics:

For recent Chinese dramas especially the popular dramas, you could asked about voiced by who (dub) on that drama page on mydramalist because many peoples who know Chinese language or from China themselves will reply to your question.
This drama was filmed in 2023 but I read on X that about a week before the drama's ending on air, Youku dicussed with main actor, Wang Xing Yue about the ending.
The Double become unexpected hit during on air despite both main casts, Wang Xing Yue & Wu Jin Yan are not traffic actor/actress yet before this so Youku milked this drama to gain more profit by changing the schedule for the airing time so the fans need to pay more to watch the episodes early. I think Youku scared the fans will scold them about the ambiguous ending of this drama so they try to give a more clear ending for this drama.
At first Youku asked Wang Xing Yue to do voice record for the narrative for ending but then Wang Xing Yue discussed with the drama director & producer so they filmed the extra episode for the drama.
Both main casts, Wang Xing Yue & Wu Jin Yan are both under Huanyu Film agency and Yu Zheng, their manager is also the producer of this drama so it easy for them to film the extra episode.
Despite the 12 years old age gap between main casts, they both are comfortable with each other offscreen during filming & give good cooperation when filming kiss scenes.
Yet the director is a conservative person (Wu Jin Yan rightly said that to him during filming extra episode) so he rejected for more kiss scenes.
