Seems like the success of story of minglan has encouraged historical costume melodramas that are not the usual palace type while keeping women as the primary characters. Arguably has resulted in better writing since the plot isn't entirely about "jiejie"s fighting to fuck some senile man while keeping some dumbass cockhold as their ally in the court.
