1st love interest =/= lead always. Gen was just as prominent as Wao.
i'm not saying that he's the lead BECAUSE he's her first love interest.

SPOILER

While reading the manga (and finishing it),I felt like it was more the story of the brother & sister and their relationship with their love interest. Even if Gen is a main character, I felt like the "protagonists" of the story were Wao and Shima, because we're a lot more inside their head, and they appear more too (especially in the first 4 volumes, but it seems the movie will skip everything that is not the romance)

LOL
The difference between live action & manga.

Live action synopsis :

After her parents divorced, Sumitomo Shima lived with her mother. She felt uncomfortable living with her stepfather and she was unable to hang out with people at her high school. Shima decides to move to Hokkaido where her father lives. At her new high school in Hokkaido, she meets classmate Tatebayashi Gen and Sakurai Wao. They are the two most popular boys at her school. A principle of her school is that"Gen and Wao are for everyone." If anyone breaks the rule, that person will be ostracized. Sumitomo Shima gets closer to Gen and Wao.

Manga synopsis :

Somewhere along the way, life for high school teen Shima seemed to take a wrong turn. A fall-out with a friend in her all-girl’s school became fodder for nasty rumors, etching her name onto the school’s blacklist. Things at home aren’t looking any better. Her mother seems to be in love with the idea of being in love, and has a string of husbands to prove it. Shima has been silently putting up with her mother’s latest arm-candy, but with her friendships going down the drain, the pressure to escape and start anew has her craving for the bears and Yezo sika deers of her biological father’s hometown in Sapporo.

I'm a little afraid, because this manga is REALLY good, and even if it's a shojo, I feel like the focus is more onto the true friendship between the 3 than the romance.

Especially Wao and Shima..

____________________________________________SPOILER

She's first in love with him, but it's one sided. Because 1 - he's in love since forever with someone else, 2 - their parents marry each others. But this love transforms into AN AMAZING FRIENDSHIP between the two. They will be each others confident, and really close <3

And then she begin to be really interested in Gen and here the love story. But it's only in the 4th volume (there's 7)^^

That's why it's more like Wao & Shima are the protagonists of the manga, because we follow each of their relationships.

_____________________________________________ END OF SPOILER

But when I saw the trailer, it's like it's a romantic triangle when THERE'S NO TRIANGLE!

The guys are adorable (no violent tsundere, they're both super sweet), and at the beginning she just really want to be their friends, without romantic feelings, and it's awesome.

It's that with just a bad synopsis it can be seen as unoriginal, but it's not at all like any other shojo manga.

I was lost for W too. And I dropped at the exact same time as you.

If you like the suspense part of Suspicious Partner, try I Remember You (Hello Monster) by the same writer, and the focus is less on the romance, and more on the incredible villains.

Jealousy Incarnate was impossible to finish for me : too strong SLS .

I really enjoyed Siren, and Matsuzaka Tori was amazing. Nanao really outshined the heroine.

I love THE WHOLE CAST of Sukina Hito, but this drama was painfully bad. Maybe some people who don't watch a lot of J-drama, or don't mind overly cheesy and/or bad-written drama can enjoy it but NOPE. It was really bad.

It was cute, it was funny... But that's it.
I'll recommend it, but only the first like... 10 episodes? 8 episodes? That was really cool, even if the heroine wasn't the most original one, it was still interesting. Especially thanks to the complex character of DaeHwi.
What's interesting about School is that we get a lot of characters and backstory, but this one was way too heroine oriented. After the school violence problem, everything was too long, too slow, and, I'm sorry but, way too cheesy. I felt like watching a romance drama wanting to be a school mystery and... failing. Too much things not finished, or half-assed.

But still there were some really interesting things, like the double-faced school president, the school violence arc that was pretty dark, and the first cases that were interesting.

And it's not like they didn't have the time to do that, they wasted it on something else.

Maybe my expectations were too high? After the very very good school mystery that was Solomon's Perjury, I kinda wanted something close to that. Especially when two main character of Solomon were in this drama.

Is there a difference between this and the movie? Should I watch the movie first?
The drama first, then the movie ^^
fanitha Sep 17, 2017
I loved all those dramas, but its mostly comedy.

The most realistic and interesting one is undoubtedly SUZUKI-SENSEI.

But if I have to choose between those I'll say Yowakutemo Katemasu because it's interesting, with original characters and solid acting (with exceptions) and Rookies because the characters are especially lovely <3
On Tomodachi Game Jul 7, 2017
This pre-movie drama is really interesting. I'm a little disappointed by 3 of the 5 main actors, who are very weak.
But Yoshikawa Ryo and Yamada Yuki really level up the acting game.

I'm just annoyed by the (useless) changes done in comparison with the manga, but... We'll see how the movies are made. I just hope they're not forcing a love-line between Sawaragi and Yuuichi, when she don't even appear a lot in the manga.

(and if there's a hint of romance in the manga, it's between Yuichi and Kokorogi)

I will never understand this casting. Komatsu Nana can be both brillant and mediocre, but Fukushi Sota??? It's…
? Why talking about Yamazaki Kento? lol

I watched a lot of Fukushi's movies/dramas, and a lot of Yamazaki's movies/dramas, and their level are incomparable.
Yamazaki began his career in drama and thriller (before being drowned into live-action by his agency years later), with secondary roles, which permitted him to improve his acting role by role. But Fukushi began his acting with a first role in Kamen Rider that always cast rookies, but then he got a role in the ULTRA popular Ama-chan and then he got leads roles way too fast and didn't have the time to improve.

I'm highly interested in Japanese cinematography, and Fukushi is the victim of a powerful agency, that only care bout popularity and not his own acting progress :/

And I watched this movie, too. :(
I'm really disappointed, the stories interesting but his facial eyes are inexpressive. I wish I could not understand japanese and be distracted by the subtitles, but no. I cannot ignore his dead-fish eyes, and his robotic voice.

I think the best movie of Fukushi is Say I Love You, because even if it wasn't stellar acting, he actually felt NATURAL.
Ceki May 22, 2017
The most crazy is not that he's a bad actor, everyone is at the beginning, but that his acting level DOESN'T CHANGE AT ALL. He's not at the beginning of his career anymore, can't he show some kind of.... emotion on screen? And he aways loses the spotlight every time he's on screen with a more gifted actor, even though he has this original big spotlight named "MAIN LEAD", he always find a way to disappear from the screen.

He was the weakest actor in Yowakutemo Katemasu (okay this drama had very strong young actor, but he is an actor too), in Library Wars he was just "Matsuzaka's brothers" even though he had more screen time than Matsuzaka", in Omukae Desu I only remember his female co-sar Tao. And for the dramas where he was a supporting character, I don't even remember seeing him.

Enoshima Prism? Koizora? Wasn't it works with Nomura as lead? No? He only was 'second' lead? Oh. Fukushi was the lead. Don't remember him. Don't remember the female lead, too.
Tomorrow I Will Date With Yesterday’s You was such an embarrassing movie... Komatsu can be very good or very bad, and she was very bad with a very bad partner.

And I can't talk about As God Will... It was really a bad move from his agency. How can you put him in a showdown with Kamiki Ryunosuke? Yes, they have the same age, but Kamiki is on screen since he was 2 yo.

The thing to remember : In Japan, when you have a pretty face and you're part of a very powerful agency, you can be big, even when everyone knows that you don't have any talent.

I liked it a lot, but I love the Korean version more. The performances of the actors and the general atmosphere were intense while being less violent.
But the korean actors have longer experience as actors, so it's normal that the levels are different. Especially the boys, I like LuHan, but he's still pretty green.

But the movie was a good remake I think, it wasn't just a copy/paste. Maybe the korean version has just made a too big impression on me, that's why I kept comparing them while watching. It's sad this movie didn't make me forget his original ! :/

But I recommend it anyway. ^^

I was a little afraid to watch it after Nirvana In Fire, but it was a good idea after all.
It's very different and not as perfect as NiF, but I enjoyed it a lot.

The plot, the action, the research are really interesting, but the best part of the drama are the characters and their actors.
The 3 brothers are really good.
Ming Tai annoys me like no one, but HuGe made him a really lovely man, Ah/Ming Cheng is incredible with his loyalty and love for the Ming, even when that love is his only flaw, and Ming Lou! Ah! Not just the protagonist, but the real hero of this drama. He's incredibly complex, but amazing.
The woman aren't just pretty characters, and Ming Jing is an explosive, charismatic and powerful woman. She can't control her emotions, but it makes her really human.
Yu ManLi is a big reason for me not hating Ming Tai. She's a badass, beautiful, and kind spy, and how can I hate the one she love? All her scenes were perfect.
Wang ManChun is a very enjoyable villain. She's sadistic and cruel, but the love she has for Ming Lou is disturbing, and makes this monster human. More complex villain like her in dramaland, please!
The communist girl was incredibly useless, though. She just made me hate Ming Tai, like: "How the fuck can you fall in love with this girl when you have the perfect one for partner already?????"

I loved the groups in this drama, and their bonds.
The 3 spies, always nagging at each others, one young master, one assassin and one photograph, the times when they were together were the times when I love Ming Tai the most.
The Ming Family, always full of life and smile, with their sweet housekeeper, I wanted to see her more.
The school, their strong, but complex relationship. I can't even imagine the pain of Teacher, when he had to kill his students.
The tense but interesting "traitor" quator, I always loved the dynamic of ManChun and Ming Lou, but I also liked the Ah Cheng/Lian duo, even if all of that were lies.
And I, like a lot of people, especially love the duo of double-agent. They were the only one who knew the secrets of the other, and the only one they could fully trust. I was always afraid that Ah Cheng would sacrifice himself for Ming Lou, but I was always happy to see the big brother so angry each time Ah Cheng would talk about dying.

To see the two of them alone in this big house... It was really a bittersweet ending.

The wedding photo was incredibly touching, and yes, it is really well taken.

I tried for the 3rd time the 1st ep, and when I passed the awkward beginning, everything was better.

It's really sweet, full of passion, mistakes, regrets, friendship, etc... Finally what I wanted from this drama. I'm happy I got through the begging ^^'

Just a little sad that the drama isn't longer. There's a lot of interesting character, and I want to see more of them. The two team are full of lovely characters.

Just a little disappointed there's not a single women in this story. It's not that I want a romantic subplot, but it would have been funny to see a sister, or a female manager in all of this.
