I was the same, I avoided Yanxi Palace for so long due to usually disliking palace intrigue and Qing dynasty in particular. This drama is the exact opposite of Blossoms in Adversity in that nobody ever explains things, talks honestly to each other, nor clears up any misunderstandings. Thus they just fester endlessly making everyone unnecessarily miserable!

It’s just how the universe works in dramas, just like nobody can tell that someone is a girl as long as they wear their hair in a male-style topknot, but suddenly see it the moment she lets it down.

You can see them happily marrying in the trailer, I’m sure the ending will be happy.

I disagree, she’s very childlike and he wanted to preserve her innocence without disturbing her by bringing up topics that have never occurred to her. That’s why he was so careful and vague, he assumes that just like a child she’s just never had a sexual urge before and doesn’t want to harass her if that is something she just doesn’t feel herself.
