A Brilliant Cast Trapped in a Messy Plot

The Legend of Rosy Clouds is one of those dramas that had so much potential but got held back by its own storytelling.

- Production & Technical Vibes
This drama seems to have had a complicated production history. It was reportedly filmed back in 2023 and then delayed for quite a while, with a lot of discussion around production issues and possible adaptation-rights problems. I am not saying that as a confirmed fact, but honestly… you can feel that something happened behind the scenes. The editing is rough, some scene transitions are very abrupt, and especially in the first episodes, the story can feel strangely stitched together. Add the fairly modest budget on top of that, and you also get action scenes that are not very impressive, some repetitive costume styling, and an overall production quality that can feel a bit dated at times. I also read that it was originally 56 episodes, so if that’s true, around 20 episodes were cut.

- The Talent vs. The Story
Underneath all the technical flaws, there is something genuinely enjoyable here. The cast is incredible—Yi Tong, Joseph, Dai Lu Wa, Tian Jia Rui, Riley Wang, and the familiar face we all missed, Deng Wei.
It might feel strange to see such prominent actors/actresess in supporting roles, but keep in mind that they hadn’t yet reached their current level of stardom in 2023. Regardless, you can rest assured that the acting is top-notch—this is truly a powerhouse cast that won’t let you down.

However, it’s frustrating to see such talent buried under a messy plot. No matter how strong the performances are, the awkward cuts and constant jumping between scenes ruin the emotional flow and take away the impact of the beautiful cinematography. In the first 10 episodes, it’s honestly hard to even understand what’s happening, which is likely why many viewers (and the rating) dropped off.

- The Characters & Romance
Rather than focusing on romance or a love triangle, the core of this drama is the FL’s struggle to establish herself in a male-dominated world and secure an official rank to serve her people.

*The Male Lead: I truly loved his simplicity and the sincerity of his love. His pure devotion—caring for the FL without expecting anything in return—really stood out to me.
*The Female Lead: She was a bit frustrating in the romance. For about 31 episodes, she seemed so confused, treating the ML as if he had no special place in her heart. But, I have to admit, her determination and hard work were truly admirable.
*The Second Male Lead: I’m not a fan of love triangles, but Deng Wei did a fantastic job with his role.
*The Second Couple: They were honestly one of the most interesting parts of the drama. Wei Shi San is completely and wholeheartedly in love with Gao Ran, while Gao Ran clearly doesn’t know how to express love, yet it’s obvious he is captivated by Shi San’s beauty. Unlike the FL, who disappointed me in the romantic aspect, Gao Ran did not.
Little by little, the way he looks at Shi San starts to feel special. Just that look of his, with a slight frown between his brows (especially in episodes 21 and 22), makes it seem like he’s truly paying attention to her. My heart melted for them.
Honestly, you could make an entire mini‑drama just from their scenes together

- Final Thoughts
Overall, don’t go into this drama expecting a masterpiece or your number one favorite. Just watch it with an open mind and focus more on its humor and romance. Yes, it has many flaws, and yes, it could have been much better, but it is definitely not terrible. It simply suffered from issues that made it feel more incomplete than it should have been.

As for the ending, everything was wrapped up so suddenly, and the dialogues felt a bit too short and blunt. Even at the very last moment, I’m losing my mind over these cuts. Ending the last scene abruptly in the middle of the OST’s climax? lol Such amateur editing, the editor was clearly just checked out. So don’t expect too much from the story — it’s not even worth rewatching. Maybe only the first and second couples’ romance, or some of the comedy (the humor is actually quite good), is worth rewatching; otherwise, it really has no value.

Good Drama

The story started off really engaging. The virtual reality world and the humor in the drama had me laughing with excitement. However, I felt disappointed that this world only lasted for the first few episodes, and then we were dragged into the real world. I didn’t enjoy the real-world part, which made the drama feel like a typical, cliché story.
The acting was excellent. I’m not a fan of the ML and couldn’t connect with him, but the FL is one of my favorite acteress, and I was really happy to see her.
The drama excelled in set design, especially in the romantic scenes. In this aspect, it was far from repetitive or cliché (only the work-related world and its conflicts were a bit tiring).
The soundtrack was amazing. It’s one of the few dramas where I loved every single song, especially the opening theme. Regarding rewatch value, aside from the work-related scenes, I’d probably rewatch the other scenes, especially the virtual reality ones.
If two things had been different, this drama would have become my favorite of all time: a better ML and more story set in the virtual reality world.

A Bus Full of Memories

What does “memory” mean to you?
- For me, it’s like a bus that has already left.
+ But if you stay there and wait patiently, it will surely come back.

About the story, I’ll tell you: the main focus is friendship—two people whose bond develops quickly but is very valuable to them. They do everything they can to protect each other, even if it means sacrificing themselves.
Many people didn’t like how the story progressing, but I disagree with them. They just had certain expectations in their minds that the story didn’t follow. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad story. But rest assured, it has a happy ending; everyone ends up happy. And so do I.

If you ask about the acting, it was amazing. I’ve seen Kim Da-mi in many roles, and this one was different for them—but she handled it really well. As for Seo Jung-hee, I had only seen her in Glory and only knew she was beautiful, but through this drama, I realized that besides beauty, she is also a talented actress. Regarding the male lead, honestly, I didn’t know him well and wasn’t a fan. When I realized he was the ML, I was a bit disappointed. But he did his role well, and that’s enough. The other characters each had their own stories—not that they focused on them too much, just briefly—but even that was enough for me to feel that it wasn’t just about the three main characters; the others existed too.

The main songs weren’t particularly memorable, but they weren’t bad either. I didn’t focus on the music, but it didn’t make me dislike the drama.

I generally don’t rewatch series because the story feels repetitive, but if my mind were clear, I would definitely watch this drama from the beginning again. I love how their relationships and friendships develop, their hangouts, their happiness, and their sadness. Like it all.🥹✨

The Bus Ride That Ran Out of Fuel

The drama was good, but honestly not as amazing as everyone made it out to be. I went in expecting edge-of-my-seat excitement the whole way through, without a single dull moment… but nope, that didn’t happen.

The core plot was pretty cool — a time loop, someone trying to break it, and accidentally dragging another person into the cycle. Up to that point, I thought, “Okay, this is worth it.” But later they focused way too much on the personal lives of every single passenger on that bus. We drifted so far from the main story and the suspense, and instead we were stuck watching the everyday struggles of random characters.

Around episode 4 (I think), they started showing these short backstories of some passengers. Basically, we’d find out we already knew the suspect they were watching was innocent… but the characters still had a long way to figure it out. That was kind of frustrating. I wanted to feel the suspense and doubt along with them, but the show kept explaining everything to us first. The final side story especially dragged on forever.

And don’t even get me started on the romance. It was honestly the most pointless love story. Are we supposed to believe they fell in love just because they went through life-and-death situations together? That’s so flimsy. Does that mean if it were anyone else who went through the same hardships with them, they’d fall for them too? Or were they just trauma-bonded? I couldn’t feel any chemistry between them at all. It felt like the writers forced a romance into the story just to make it more appealing.

Now about the bus driver girl’s backstory — I get that what happened to her was tragic, but why did she jump out of the bus like that? She could’ve screamed or tried to get attention. Eventually someone would’ve helped, right? Didn’t the police say the driver was supposed to report that kind of situation? So why did he let her off the bus? (He claimed it was because she tried to grab the wheel and could’ve caused an accident, but seriously, wasn’t there anyone else to hold her back? Even the FL tried once and that big guy stopped her right away so she wouldn’t distract the driver.)

The show did a good job hooking me at the start, but it just couldn’t keep up the momentum. And the soundtrack… ugh. The “thrilling” scenes didn’t feel thrilling at all because of the music, and the romantic scenes made me want to just skip ahead.

I'll miss them by the way

For who want to watch it, this is my experience of their amazing world:

Okay, I just finished it and I don't know what to do with my life now. I lived with them for 40 episodes, I laughed with their happiness and cried with their sorrows.
I once thought this drama became famous for nothing! No matter what they do, they can't keep a story interesting for 40 episodes, but now I really regret not watching this drama sooner.
This was a nice one, but you know, it's one of those that requires a lot of patience to watch. Because you might get hurt because of the ending, the misunderstandings, the sorrows, the problems that haven't ended yet, start again. My heart is still broken from watching it.
Story: 8.5/10

The actors/actresses showed their best. The way they looked, their facial expressions, their voices that changed depending on the situation, their smiles, everything was perfect. You won't regret it. The chemistry between the main couple is great. (And I became a fan of Bai Lu after this, she's so pretty.)
Acting: 10/10

Speaking of OST, to be honest, the night I finished the drama and I wanted to sleep, for a few days ater that, the songs kept playing in my head and I felt nostalgic. They are unforgettable and sad at the same time.
OST: 10/10

I don't think I want to watch it for the first time and feel this sadness again(I don't like this feeling, I can't stand it.) but I'll rewatch the good feeling parts.
Of course that hurt my heart but was still worth watching.
Rewatch value: 8/10

And now.. it's hard to forget them. Really hard. And for all good feeling that the main couple gave to me, it should be 10/10 :))

"Extra + Ordinary = Extraordinary you"

- This drama has a very interesting and unpredictable plot,
but it was very slow, I waited a long time for the story to become a bit clearer and progress. And in the end I realized that nothing was supposed to be explained at all!
The main idea of the drama (that is, what they showed us from the beginning) was for Don O to create her own destiny and prevent the forced fate imposed on her by the writer, but she gradually gave up and the main idea disappeared and we were told that fate cannot be prevented.
And Don O, seeing that she could not do anything, decided to prioritize love over everything. (Two misconceptions that can be taken from the story!)

I really wanted to show the writer once and have something happen that would make them escape from his control. It really disappointed me that in the end they had to continue living in the fantasy world, a world where they have no control. But this time with different relationships and forgetting each other in the previous two worlds, that we lived with one of those worlds for 32 episodes! Even if they become aware again that they are under the writer's control, many of them may not remember each other in the previous world like they did last time!
As a result, nothing worked out, only Don O and Haru got back together!
It seems that between these three worlds, they are the only ones who find each other. So what about the other couples? other loves? The rest have to fall in love again with different situations and personalities and break up to wait for the next world?

Before I watched the drama, I thought that black holes were for teleportation between drama worlds. Because I heard that a scene from this drama was aired in True Beauty.
Even after I realized that this is not what black holes are for, I was waiting for a logical reason for them and maybe a new idea for the plot. But in the end, nothing happened and no explanation was given.. (7/10)

- the acting was really great. I especially liked Do-hwa's acting and character. But FL's act is always the same in all the dramas she's ever acted in, and it's really boring. (8/10)

- one OST makes me cry, that one is without words and with sad melody... and the rest are not memorable and have no lasting impact. (7/10)

- There's no reason to watch it again.
Repetitive scenes? Character fights? A story that was never completed and logically explained?
Perhaps the only reason to rewatch is because it's a comedy drama, but since there aren't many of those comedy scenes, it's very hard to find them again. (4/10)
