I think he took the role due to how his character isn't so clear cut and that it allows him to use subtle movements,…
HOWLING. Omg. I remember that. Hopefully he didn't need any of that, like to think he chooses his roles based on what he sees in the script and what he can do.
I love your point of view and how you presented it. I was so sad at the end of ep. 14 too. Because here is a girl…
Yep. Also, when he finally got to her in that Land of Tribulations he grasped what was going on then and there. And, every time he met up with CB / WJ he never tried 'killing him', he kept asking him 'why'. But CB probably thought his master was conflicted so he had no idea what his real reasons / feelings were.
But the 'chat' he had with CB was worth it. Though now CB is going to be thinking, gdi it, look at the mess we're in now.
Did he just kill her without even blinking.... u kidding me!... there were no dialogues or emotions of Yin Fen…
It's not so easy. He is someone who has lived his life in a certain way for a long, long time. He is conflicted and he straight up cried and started shedding tears after he did. He didn't want to do it, but he had to. You could say he was pushed into a corner, if she would have touched the sword she would have gone ape-shit and killed everyone and possibly him. It was a crap shoot moment and unfortunately he lost. He is going to regret it, and this is what fuels act II.
My question is what will be the thing he holds to that makes him want to stay with her through all this mess?…
Interesting! I like the way you present this all. I'm willing to see it like that. (Just hope that it doesn't fall too far into the abusive male trope.)
My question is what will be the thing he holds to that makes him want to stay with her through all this mess?…
Ooof. That's rough - because if we went by the novel, it's a bit weird that he would choose to stay beside her in the end not out of love but that he was possessive. Is that even love? I tried reading the English translation but it was so rough. So for native Chinese speakers or those fluent, does it sound more or less like he ended up loving her or was he just obsessed with her?
I can see them changing it in the show to make it seem like he is having a hard time sticking to the rules of the immortal sect but also giving into his feelings for her.

Exactly. E-xact-ly. Chong Zi is going to give into the dark side not because of 'evil' but because she has been backed into a corner and the ones fueling that hate are the immortal sect. The immortal sect in my opinion is going to get so bent on hating on her they're bound to slip up and go overboard to where they're not going to be reflecting the original views of the immortal sect. That's probably what Yin Fan is going to see over time, that things aren't so black and white and there are shades of gray. It harkens back to the conversation that Chu Bufu was having to him at the beginning - he probably had stared to see things with shades of gray and felt open to express that with Yin Fan because he too probably was feeling those shades of gray but unable to have that moment where it was all made clear. Chong Zi is what made it clear but unfortunately he did what he had to do.
Omg that guy is so annoying. She should tell him that she will never marry him and that she is in love with someone…
I'm lol'ing at the fact he is going to bro up on swordsmanship and spells to be just as powerful as her Master so he can ~ impress her ~ . If anybody I find him a lot more infantile than Chong Zi. Every time he comes ton the screen he is like a hyperactive dog.
Okay, I'm gonna info dump in here of what I've been feeling. The story so far is giving me a lot of Anakin / Star Wars parallels. I felt it so much in this last episode than any of the episodes before.
Yin Fan in my opinion has always from the get go seemed to not be 100% happy with the role he is in. Yes, he has demands and boundaries, but we have seen in the last couple episodes he is not truly wanting to follow them. Even the immortals have always found him odd. He also referred himself to be odd to Chong Zi because of his approach on things. I think that he learned to love Chong Zi and has true feelings for her but he knows he can't have them because of this EXACT issue. If he was to give into love with her, would it be worth it in the end? Would he have to put her down like he did later rather than sooner? I don't think he realized that the moment would come as soon as it did, and in hindsight, he should have been researching a way to rid Chong Zi of her breath or her call to the sword. The use of the line that Chong Zi had of 'how you put those before yourself' is important here, because he is realizing that she was correct - he did put the world before himself, but what about his wants? His desires? His feelings? He can't act upon them. Again, which reminds me a lot of Star Wars and that Jedi cannot love or show love or any attatchments because feelings = hate = suffering.
Chong Zi is a heartless character, she feels so much for her Master, the people and her Uncle. If she didn't care about the girl who was such a bitch to her, she wouldn't be trying to help those who caused her pain. Chong Zi also knew that if she were to die all this would not happen, again, she was willing to sacrifice. But Yin Fan chose not to be cause he was starting to slip and attempting to put his feelings for her first.
It's a greek tragedy in a sense where we know as viewers the outcome for them but we must watch it play out. The shot where you watch him execute the blow and Chong Zi saying her last words to him, it's going to haunt him because he did not want her to die but he had to do it. There was no way for him to find a solution in the matter of time that they had.
So all in all, you have one character who loves to love but is cursed with an inability to have that love in return and you have another character who can't love because of who he is and what he must represent.
I'm excited to watch her new life begin and the challenges and sadness that will come with it.
Once she successfully merges with the sword, she will gain enormous powers and become the second Ni Lun. As a…
My question is what will be the thing he holds to that makes him want to stay with her through all this mess? That he knows she can still be good? Hopefully that will be explained in the show.

DW is always here. :)

I love Wan Jie and Keran. <3
