Pursuit of Jade has overtaken Legend of Zang Hai to become the 6th highest-ranking drama in Yunhe history! 🔥In…
May everyone who helped bring this show to life get notoriety from this or good opportunities down the line. I'd give this director a blank check and have him cast and make anything.
Yes, I like how human they are. That's why I feel connected with characters here more.
Exactly - nothing is played up for drama. It's like, while there are some... liberties... being taken (mainly with the martial arts parts and what not), and other bits here or there, everyone is acting pretty much level with how someone may act in that situation.
Also: the female protagonist (while skilled) has weaknesses and limits, and breaking points. Some of the Chinese dramas I've watched you don't get that - it's like they don't want to write characters that can get depressed or overwhelmed. I get that watching dramas is a way of escape and some don't wanna see that. But I love it, I wanna see people with nuance and imperfect bits. Sometimes I wanna cry or feel.
YZ abandoned her and leave her saying it's for sake and safety. he didn't even showed his face to her on the mountain,…
While I didn't care for it, I *can* see where he is coming from - they're still from two different worlds. While she did get hurt, they are independent that they both have to do things independently. He can't stifle her.
Damn, Episode 18... This show is the kind of show that China needs to do on a regular basis. The layers and depth here is absolutely insane. Everyone written has the kind of depth you see in Hollywood films where every character and interaction counts. I read the writer of the novel has another show being adapted with ZLH playing the lead. He probably saw gold in what he did here and wanted another go at playing a well developed character.
Episode 19... that gua sha scene. Damn. TXW is so good here. Like, this is gonna be her magnum opus. ZLH, too. They better be like "PoJ is the best thing I've done and I won't settle for less (only if I need to buy a house or something)". Also, holy damn, the evil bro mascaraed a town for revenge when it came to her.
People who are not watching this show are really missing out when writing, directing and acting come together.
tbf I think the switch up in yan zheng’s behaviour in ep 17 was very real?? like him suddenly kissing her was…
The way I saw it is that things are changing at a rapid pace beyond their control. He started pushing her away, she started pushing him away. He got angry she wasn't simping, so he doubled down on it, she got mad he wasn't trying to appease her so she took the out. It shocked him, turned him on / caused him to kiss her because he lost control. She spelled it out - more or less, "How dare you talk out of both your ass and mouth" (saying one thing but then saying another). Plus, after everything that went down before and now, she's not really sure she knows him anymore. I really thought he would tell his identity then, but I guess he thinks he can come back in a year.
I am legit screaming on how well written episode 17's fight at night was written and shot. So much tension, anger, love, and rejection. I couldn't get over when she didn't give into his kisses and slapped him one. I would have done he same as her. ZYH & TXW are killin' in here (including the creative team). Like this whole thing is like peak historical romance. (The fact he made her gauntlets himself as a parting gift is just too sweet.)
Them beating up SongYan was an overkill 😆 With both their strength, it's a miracle SongYan is still alive.
I feel like being around her allows him to bring out his carefree nature. Not saying beating up pieces of shit in an alley is carefree, but the principle of the thing.
What's popular right now are cozy romances (in book-format). What we're seeing right now is kind of like that. I know the director is really good at his action stuff, but he does really good at cozy romances (lighting, angles, etc). So... maybe we should get him o do a cozy historical romance next?
