I love your comment! Yimeng quite serves for his character development in the story imo.
Exactly. We aren't quite sure if he is aware when the script causes him to 'do' things, or if he questions it. When he jumped in to save her from drowning and he was 'going through the motions' of putting his cloak on her, he was thrown off guard when she denied him that.
It's kind of like people who go through the motions of what is expected of them instead of doing what they want to do because THEY want to do it. She is making him break free from the script they way she keeps not going by the 'rules' of decorum.
She has to go through her trial too, and it seems that she is every day she is stuck in this world. She is realizing that, it's taking time and people are just not liking that. I rather the two of them go through all this and be rewarded with a happy ending than a shit one where nobody learned anything.
Lets also think about this: if it weren't for everything he went through after meeting SYM, he would have never have realized 'love' or 'companionship'. I mean, it's rough to see him go through all this, but I firmly believe the events had to play out like this for him to love her. To him before, he never chased after or cared about love ; he was an aloof, cold, meticulous person. Not evil, just detached.
The person NH is now is the kind of man for her. She just now has to go through the rest of her trial, but her tearful confession in this last episode during a moment of fear already shows she knows deep down where her feelings lie, she just has to circumvent the future.
Also, girl was doing some shitty CPR, but it saved him. Somehow.
I still like where the show is going. You have to break down both the characters to bring them at the same level. NH had to experience being humbled to win her heart fully.
Looking at the calendar there is a fire, does something burn? There is a horse, is it the pegasus? Tripple swords, against or for? The pen, the reveal of who is behind the script? The sunglasses, our mysterious actor?

Maybe I'm too used to non surface level stories and books that I just don't have an issue with how anything has gone down.
It's exactly as you said, if you are feeling these things then that means the story is doing its job. A well crafted story should make you feel this way.
I was thinking this too! I think its like Back to the Future, that the events already happened (which is why he is there) but we don't know quite how they happened and that is what we are seeing. He probably wanted to have her experience the relationship in the story before approaching her in the present because he knows it hasn't happened yet for them to be lovers in the real world.
Yโallโฆ do you realize this is exactly what the screenwriter planned? When the FL read the script, we were…

I think everyone is just being triggered because they want quick resolutions and no drama. Which isn't how this show is. If they want a goofy show where everything is peachy kean they need to check their bias at the door.

Surface level dramas aren't my thing anyway.
