This is so good!! Wasn’t expecting much but these kind of dramas that surprise me are worth wading through and dropping all the other junk dramas that are constantly being spit out.
I wasn’t expecting much out of this one but it became my favorite rom com I’ve watched in a long time. Was it perfect? No, but it’s definitely not deserving of so much of the hate it’s gotten. It was actually really smartly written and executed and I believed the characters, even when they were making stupid choices or I wanted to reach into my screen and shake them. The ending was on point for the rest of the drama’s message: people and relationships are messy, sometimes there’s moments of pure bliss, but just enjoy the journey!
I am so surprised how much I’m enjoying this! It is full of elements I dislike in other dramas, but for some reason the way they put it together here completely works. And episode 7 was hilarious!! 🤣🤣🤣 Though it’s probably time for Bora to stop drinking. 🙈
Never thought that this could be a problem for some, probably cos im like him, lol
I agree, I usually don’t like to comment on people’s bodies. I only bring it up to offer a different perspective. Whether it’s your preference or not, skinny bodies are what the media and most celebrities hold up as the ideal. It is not always a natural body type and comes with unhealthy behavior. Most it all, it adds to peoples’s personal body distortion to believe they should match that ideal.
I am seriously so distracted by how unhealthily skinny Lou Yun has become. Even if it matches this role as a mistreated ML. He has always been very thin, but he is looking obsessively so. Plus his dramatic makeup enhances it. It’s actually concerning and I can’t focus on his great acting because of it. :(
This show is ridiculous in the best way possible. The comedy is surprisingly on point. So many dramas of this variety really fall flat on the humor. That plus the actors themselves, the chemistry, and steamy kisses make for a fun, light watch! It seems really underrated to me.
The middle always makes me glad the show aired in a different sequence to the book. I think if the original sequence…
Agreed, I liked how they changed that part of the story. Just too much what felt like filler in the middle. The director’s cut is really good and helps you understand the characters’ actions even better, especially ML at the beginning.
Amazing drama but could have really benefited with some major shortening, at least 10-15 episodes. And I’m not talking about the content added from the director’s cut, that was very important and should have stayed originally. Like too many other Chinese dramas, middle dragged far too much. Especially with the painful but beautiful beginning and ending, the middle length really brought down the overall quality of the drama and story. But it still holds a very special place in my heart 3 years later, and I still go back and rewatch scenes and episodes. Heartbreaking in the best kind of masochistic way.

Good drama, but I’m finding the costumes and set designs of the heavenly world and void to be so distracting. The over used color palates and cheesy, cheap looking costumes are tacky and not pleasant to look at. Some dramas in this genre definitely do a better job at this than others, but it’s a fail for me from this one.
This was a mixed bag for me. Things I liked: OST, high production quality, the friendships, ML, some of the reflective moments, overall vibe, and suuuper sweet story with just enough emotional depth here and there to not cause a toothache. I also felt they pushed back on some Cdrama stereotypes by including a main girl to root for who was tanned and sexy, as well as some more adult like content.
Things that just missed the mark: the leads chemistry, couldn’t quite connect with the FL, some episodes dragged too much, side couples were good but too much extra scenes of things that couldn’t keep my interest, the terrible attitude towards Africa, and honestly stupid moments that were supposed to be cute but fell flat, like knocking over a huge row of bookcases three different times. 🙄
Good adaptation, so cool seeing it on the big screen, lots of little Easter eggs from the drama. Overall enjoyed it but the drama is much better. Too much to cram in less than 2 hours and the plot was not as tight because of it. The original drama was intelligent and made you think but didn’t confuse you quite as much as the movie did. Not sure if it’s better to have seen or not seen the drama first. Also I don’t know if it’s because they combined some things from the drama and drastically altered other parts, but it left me scratching my head more at the logic of how it all fit together. I think they tried really hard pay homage to the drama with a new twist and give everyone a more happy, clear ending. Worthwhile adaptation but the drama holds my heart!
Of all the things to love about this drama, I wish I was one of those village children . Free range with lots of love and care from the community. ❤️ Plus free popsicles whenever. 😆
Great drama, though I was constantly distracted by the clearly Chinese police propaganda messaging. While I appreciate a pro police message, it really did feel a bit heavy handed. But if I turned off the brain(washing) just enough, it was a well executed compelling story!
Very decent drama, puts a smile on your face nearly every episode, true in the initial episodes the mis-understandings…
I agree. As much as I loved the ML character I had a hard time taking in his face. I was often distracted because of it. He had way too much makeup on and looked fake in many scenes. Combined with his soft features, the makeup was really intensified and I just kept thinking “dough face”. 😆 But I still loved him and this drama!
I hope this will help future viewers to understand this beautiful drama. It's better to read this after you have…
Thanks for all these amazing details! I had definitely noticed the parallels and symbolism with space, Mars’ orbit and mission, and so on, but you explained things very well!
Does anyone have ideas about what the color blue represents throughout the drama? It was definitely intentional to have certain actors wear blue throughout the whole drama at scenes, like the young leads on their dates, her blue sweater gifted from the son, the son’s full blue outfits, her blue coat at ending scene, and so on. I’m assuming something along the lines of youthful hope, love, or fate?
Also, any idea why the young male lead and his family always wore red in the flashback scenes together? Again, definitely intentional to be so matchy matchy.
Beautiful! Not really a new story to tell but the style and delivery made it one of my favorites this year. Yes, it might be a slower build and the timelines can be confusing at times but it worked so well. Somethings I appreciated more after going back and rewatching to fully understand the connections. Absolutely adore the younger ML, he just lit up the screen and brought a special youthful energy and love to the character that made you believe it. And all the music was wonderful for the scenes, especially the ending scene with “Hatsukoi”. So good!
And episode 7 was hilarious!! 🤣🤣🤣
