Our ML has textbook anxious attachment issues haha. Poor, traumatized boy turned into an actual morally gray ML. I like how this drama has kept it consistent with his morally gray qualities, but his love and obsession for the FL can’t be denied.
Anyone have other Cdrama recommendations that have a similar warm toned and cinematography vibe? Other than the Forbidden Flower? I really love this aesthetic and feelings it gives off compared to the overly bright, white washed look of so many Cdramas.
Don’t agree with the obvious mess up in episode 13 but it’s unfortunate to witness cancel culture in its finest right here. Almost as disappointing. And we wonder why humans are still waging wars.
ikr, the ml character reminds me so much of the one in goodbye my princess they are both serious red flags but…
Haha. They’re both waving all the same red flags: ambitious for the crown prince position, wants revenge for his family, helped get rid of their brother, loves the FL with a selfish possessive love, used the FL, involved in the killing of her family, lied to her, physically forced himself on her, jealous of the childhood friend second ML, let her stab him, took away her free choice, and thinks he can have it both the kingdom and her. It’s soooo similar but it’s done well so I’m enjoying it!
Based on the initial episodes and the trailers, this is giving major Goodbye My Princess vibes. Even the title is similar. Good thing sometimes I’m in the mood for tortured love and pain because I will be surprised if this is a happy ending lol.
I am liking these short dramas that have great chemistry and simple plots. Even though there’s not much depth to the plot, at least there there aren’t hours and hours of useless filler. Most dramas in this genre aren’t really original any more and this drama drew heavily from many others. I could clearly see inspiration from dramas like Love Between Fairy and Devil, Goodbye my Princess, and The Starry Love to name a few. Some of the dialogue, scenes, styling and character sketches were blatant knock offs. But like any good knock off, sometimes it’s more accessible and enjoyable to get the benefit of the thing without paying full price. This is a quick and enjoyable watch without too much effort.
I know it was supposed to be a super emotional, dramatic scene but I got a good laugh of disbelief at the look of her carrying the baby in one arm and him over her shoulder on the other arm. 😆 No way would she be able to do that and it was obviously a fake body and the proportions looked pretty ridiculous.
Definitely! And be plays villains so well too. I first saw him in Destined and I'm like "who tf does this guy…
Yeah I appreciated him in Destined because he played the character so well. The perfect combination of controlled, almost bored but deadly and meticulous. Then he really brought it in the couple of big emotional scenes. But this is his first drama I’m like yeah he’s definitely hot haha.
I’ve seen the ML actor in multiple dramas but this is the first time I get it lol. He’s got a lot of charisma and I appreciate his combination of masculinity and beauty. His intellegent eyes and subtle expressions really draw you in and there’s a lot more going under the surface. Plus he’s looking great in this wig and costuming. What a contrast to the FL who I’ve tried hard to give the benefit of the doubt, but she’s still not impressing me with her plastic looks and stiff acting by episode 26.
Is it just me or does it look like the style, costume, and world building are trying to copy Love Between Fairy and Devil? Plus adding the crazy big backlight the director is know for lol.
This drama is much better than it is rating right now. Unfortunately it’s been so slow to get good subs and I think it’s currently losing people because of that. Don’t watch it with the crappy subs or you will miss so much. There is a lot more than meets the eye of the typical grumpy male lead and naive female lead. If you’re paying attention there is a lot of nuance in their characters and the actors are doing a fantastic job. Yes it is a slow build but there is character growth and it’s actually quite funny and clever so that helps make up for it.
I'm not sure what to say about Part 2. I wish it was as good as the first part. It's great that not only the main…
Agreed! After such an excellent start, Part 2 was a BIG letdown and the plot really frustrated me. I blame it on the writing. It was obviously written after the fact and as a way to lengthen the plot to draw in more money as they were writing it episode by episode as it was releasing.
Question for you all. I really hesitate to start this Drama because I'm not really in a mood to watch sad stuff.…
Sounds like this drama is not the one for you right now. It’s full of angst sprinkled with happy moments, not exactly balanced. It’s a heavy drama anyways that really deals with social issues that isn’t a passive watch.
What was with the crazy bright back light, weird camera angles, and strange dramatic sound effects??? Did anyone else find it super distracting? I’m sorry but I don’t think I can watch anything from this director again.
We saw it coming but wow the last two episodes escalated quickly. 😩 Societal take overs and killings have been done so many times in dramas but it really hit me in the feels this time. 😭 It’s a drama, but it felt so real and like this has played out time and time again across history. It was also a reminder of the fragility of life, one day you can be riding high and the next day things can completely change. I’m counting on a well deserved happily ever after as we see our main couple become stronger together!
