me too i was quite surprised/touched by how he treated her. i guess he really is just a kid in the sense that he may be annoying as hell and act out when things dont go his way but he has a pure heart and he listens to xingzhi well lol xD he liked to help the mortals, he helped heal shengli when she got injured and he was rather eager to show her around when she arrived to the heavens. he acts like what he suggested they become, brothers XD

so when they said jing yan (the other ancient god) was meant to always miss his loved one, does it mean his true love is whoever represents the lotus? so first she was in the form of the demon, xiao he (she transformed into a human from a lotus) in the next life she was in the form of shi luo (the one who saved him), she had that tattoo of the lotus on her wrist. so he did end up missing her again. or did it mean smth else?
