Best romcom of the year and it's not really a romcom. Romance done right and male characters all green flags.…
I heard there's not much romance, it's mainly about music and her career. So why do you believe it's the best romcom of the year? I want to watch this for the romance, your answer could be my deciding factor.
That's a good point! And in WOL I would even say that the SFL was "nice" longer than the SML. As in she started…
I was also thinking that. I was surprised the SML was worse than the SFL. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the SFL to really start doing evil things. But compared to most SFL's, she was a saint. I think at one point, she really did love him. Yes, she also wanted to be the empress, but from the moment he saved her, i think she really liked him. To prove this, there was a scene where the SFL's servant wanted to use something like a date rape drug for the purpose of having his baby. She completely refused it, and later, when she found out her servant secretly drugged him, she was furious. The typical conniving SFL would have certainly used that drug on the ML.
Was rewatching on viki and someone comment that ml was just as manipulative for using fl to coerce her father…
No, i think it's the exact opposite. I believe FL's are the protected species. ML's will get more hate than the FL's for the same reason you mentioned. The majority of viewers are women, and the female viewers will tend to view themselves as the FL. In other words, they'll put themselves in the FL's shoes and experience her journey with her. For example, ML's are expected to be nice, caring, protecting, and courageous and will immediately fall in love with the FL from the beginning without a second thought or hesitation. He will also need to sacrifice his life for her and be persistent in pursuing her, even if she rejects him multiple times. Apparently, the FL is allowed to reject and ponder her decisions of the ML, while the ML can not. The ML will also be prohibited from having any female characters around him except the FL, if he does, he's suddenly toxic and a red flag. Meanwhile, the FL can enjoy multiple male characters surrounding her and that is considered normal, infact it's encouraged. ML with SFL, "toxic." FL with SML, "you go girl."
there's quite a lot of romance in scenes like the ml is whipped for the fl and those kinds of scenes but ngl the…
Ah, the fish kisses. You'd think as professional actors, experienced professional actors, they'd know how to kiss as if they really mean it. Really, it's their job. If they're going to be actors in Romance dramas, you'd think kissing would be on top of the list of skills to perfect. After all, it's part of the job description.
But aren't ML's usually portrayed as being faithful to FL's? Don't we usually see them falling in love first from beginning to end? Don't we usually see love triangles between ML's, FL's and SML's? Don't we usually see FL's pondering her decision between the ML and SML while spending quality time with both characters? The original comment used the word "finally" as if to say ML's aren't usually faithful to FL's. Isn't that completely false?
Fantastic, i loved it. They were together from beginning to end, none of this slow burn bs. Misunderstandings were resolved fairly quickly. They worked well together, they were equal in fighting and smarts, and had great chemistry. One thing i really liked that's really rare in these dramas is that the SML was exactly like the typical SFL who's evil, conniving, with malicious intentions. Usually, the SML is completely opposite to the SFL. The typical SML will have traits such as caring, protective, supportive, and courageous. He will be worthy of the FL but will ultimately lose out because he's not the ML. Far too often, we continue seeing this type of SML while the poor SFL gets stuck with her terrible traits. Why? Why can't the SFL be worthy of the ML just like the SML is for the FL? Either make them equal or don't bother having them at all. Anyway, I'm glad this drama created the second leads as equals
