What, this makes no sense, the ML was the only good character, he did everything for the FL and was always true to her and his friends. Infact it was the SML that was so annoying and couldn't take no for an answer.

No no no, they got this all wrong. It's basically about how often can we separate the main leads just so the SML can spend some time with the FL. And his obsession for the FL was getting annoying, how many times does the FL have to tell him i don't like you, i like someone else. And then there's the ending, smh. Everyone dies except the FL, they all die within 10 minutes, and what happened with the ML, did he die or not? This had the potential but they got it wrong.
