A promising first episode. The passion is high in this series for sure and I'm intrigued how it will progress from here. Some decent characterizations. Acting is strong across the board. I've always liked Mark, but somehow he's even better than ever here. So adorable (even when forced to make sex faces on his own. Haha). Looking forward to the next.
Not my favorite. This was decent, but I never felt the chemistry between the leads. I don't care about any controversy or past behavior, but I'm just not a fan of Krist in this particular show (I liked him A LOT in SOTUS, even though I did not like that series). I just didn't feel anything from him. Even Gawin, who has been a fav of mine since DBK was not as strong as he has been in other series. They did a decent job with the time travel, although I felt like they played fairly loosely with their own rules. I liked the friends a lot. But this one never affected me at all. I didn't care if they got together or not. Will not watch again.
Ugh. Even though I had seen enough spoilers to anticipate the ending, I HATE an ending like this. If I was writing for the show... it's exactly the ending I would write. But as an audience. ARGH. I want closure. The last episode was so montage/flashback heavy it really detracted from the weight of these events. But all in all, a beautiful season with spectacular performances all around. I certainly will watch single episodes again just to be near these two boys. And I hope S2 doesn't take a year or more. I don't think I can wait that long. Having read Book 2, I'm curious how much of that will show up in S2.
Broomstick/Vampire brother pretending to be running some huge conglomerate from his laptop in his apartment: Unrealistic…
I don't blame the show. I blame the censors. Is it frustrating? Hell yes. Do I want more? Hell yes Homophobic? Absolutely. Can they give me what I want? No. They can't. I can't fault this production for doing the most they thought they could get away with without being banned or worse.
Back in the day, US censors would not allow husbands and wives to share a bed on screen. STRAIGHT.... MARRIED... HETERONORMATIVE couples. Hollywood found ways around it, implied a lot more and left it up to our imaginations. Does that make Casablanca a bad movie? When you're censored, you have to come up with little ways to imply what everyone KNOWS. Like lube on bedsheets, or an unbuckled belt.
I understand and agree for the most part with your issues, but we all knew this was going to be a challenging adaptation, given the source material and the country of origin.
That all being said, I think they could have done more to imply the nature of the relationship and still gotten away without being censored. There was a lot of filler and fluff rather than relationship development.
Stupid beyond belief. Spinning its wheels with silly side-drama that no one cares about. This show has deteriorated…
Broomstick/Vampire brother pretending to be running some huge conglomerate from his laptop in his apartment: Unrealistic for sure. Buying multiple presents in bags and taking them all home as carry-on luggage: Uh... my family does this every single trip. Broomstick ordering WB to do this and that with the presents. wtf?: Totally in character. Getting worked up because a friend left his earphones in Su Yu's bedroom: Jealousy... a BL constant. Wrestling weirdly on the floor about the headphones without us getting to hear any dialogue leading up to the weird wrestling: Poor writing or bad editing. Agree. Suddenly trying to set up a straight friend as a love rival between Su Yu and WB: A little late in the game for this. But then they toss it away quickly as well. Lame. Trying to make an enthusiastic airport hug into some great breakthrough in Chinese Bromance history: I didn't get any implication this was a breakthrough. Casting a weak-looking Broomstick as a mean/haughty/arrogant/business man: Skinny people can be arrogant. Having the only kiss we've seen thus far be between WB and his dad: Lame.... but they're censored.
Adorable. Great performances from the everyone, but highest praise for Son Hyun Woo. He stole my heart. Just beautiful from every angle and you felt every emotion along with him. Jang Do Yoon was equally impressive. If that's his real voice... WOW! I'll buy his records in any language. For the most part, I liked it all. Felt like there was some repetitive scenes and a few filler scenes, as well. Could have probably cut one or two eps. But overall highly enjoyable and watchable and might even watch again.
