I think you're right -- and, as we can clearly see here in this discussion, it's one of those things that just doesn't travel well between Eastern and Western cultures.

One thing I've liked about getting into Asian drama is seeing how important family is. I wonder if the prevalence of the step-sibling trope is related to that, like maybe in a subconscious way a 'step' relationship with someone serves to validate that they are worth loving as though they are family. Or something like that lol.

There's that scene in the opening credits where he walks away from her looking angry, so I've been assuming that they have a fight of some kind. Your theory seems more likely though.

The evil friend/roommate in Cdramas never seems to face any kind of justice, which has made me wonder if the censors in Mainland China disapprove of that kind of negative outcome.

He's really cute and very talented. He's one of the top contenders on Chuang 2021. He can sing and dance extremely well but also seems a little stand-offish.

I agree about the flashbacks. They interrupt the flow and there's often no continuity between the flashback in one episode and the flashback in the one that follows.

So true! I watch as many BG dramas as BL and I can confirm that this 'step-sibling' trope is everywhere.

Variations include having the young FL start to live with the ML's family even when there's no relation by marriage. One of the most famous/popular Kdramas, 'Playful Kiss', is based on this.

Since nobody here knows me in real life I'll confess that I spend this hour each Friday mostly in tears because it moves me so much to watch this series. Out of nowhere I start to sob.

Part of it has to do with Earth finally taking his rightful place as one of the legends of Thai drama but it's also Mix making one of the most spectacular and assured debuts ever, along with the exquisite script and direction. This is a beautiful love story, but it's also a beautiful story of Tian realizing what's truly meaningful in life and Phu finally finding a way out of what is probably a lifetime of loneliness.

The chemistry between those two is off the charts. When they finally hold each other and kiss I will probably pass out.

I agree that Phupa-Tian belong amongst those exalted couples (I'll avoid commenting on Sarawat-Tine lol) but I should mention that 'tea-bagging' has a rather, um, vulgar meaning in American culture hahaha.

Ok, there'd be no way for the writers to make it plausible that these guys would lose contact so fully and so quickly and for such a long time, but once past that little inconvenience WOW they're back!

Only a half-hour long but not a single wasted moment, and already sexy af. Taiwan continues to take the prize for BL with no boundaries.

The fact that it was so low-budget doesn't negate the fact that the cast and crew worked hard to bring this to us, flaws and all, and showed courage in doing so.

Jing Mang is unfortunately shaping up to be one of those FLs who has no instincts about people and chooses the worst classmates to be friends with.

It's getting harder and harder for me to sympathize with such characters. All they do is frustrate me with their lack of common sense.
