I always try watch dramas on official platforms however sometimes if you can't find what your looking for, you…
Not any longer... sigh. But I found it on a similar cool site that was revived after the closure of the main "archives" platform. It is supposed to be on Viki but of course "unavailable i your region" if any has it, I will be curious and go there with VPN... It's also supposed to be on youtube but only 27 episodes out of the 40, and with mismatched subtitles to boot. Even then you have to insist and look for it on YoYo channel using Chinese title in search box ; someone wrote the subs worked better with auto translation after setting the language to swahili ! but I didn't try. And then it should be on Amazon Prime, but has apparently also been scrubbed from catalogue there. I did not even try on Youku since this was a drama that got notoriously embattled for "non kosher" contents. Although really, there's not much in my view in contents that should have warranted a witch hunt ; it was a sign of the times that several dramas were "canceled" or put firmly to back of shelves in 2020, but five years have gone by and the world changed, maybe those rules to straightjacket viewing will also change.
I did not watch it then and will try to find time for it now. Or later. Hopefully the link will still work. It looks like the download link was disabled, though. Or my trusty computer has blocked it as being "non kosher" too !!! lol The OST song by Chen Xueran brought me to Guardian.
Just like me i decided to restrain myself from watching after ep24 to save myself from being affected by the frustrations…
If you have issues and triggers from subject matter of PTSD, then this drama was not for you. Perhaps you were swayed by what some commenters disliked (coming mistakenly for lighthearted romcom or battlefields) and what some third party readers wrote about the ending, but you should remember the information that the traumatic one is an epilogue that was added, after the main narrative, so the drama production could totally dispense with it and leave it at "happy end" one way or another. You left at the "lowest point" episodes, and fled leaving a 7.5 which does not necessarily reflect the worth of the drama. Sigh. But anyone may have and is entitled to have different opinions.
Wish you will find something better to your taste, and if you prefer lighthearted comedies, then good luck : there may be some upcoming ones that will rejoice you.
It is still top among the 10 on the iQiyi list and was top among the ten most watched dramas for last week ending…
So: how did you compute Heat Index was terrible and view counts negative when you admit HI is stabilizing around 7300 at time of your writing and have no figure for real viewcount?
For your information, Heat Indexes are only considered when they are around "Highest Peak". It is totally normal they fluctuate on weekdays. See https://kisskh.at/list/3kPQMmO4 TWOT standing is quite okay, not at all failed. Perhaps you have an agenda to distort the truth to your end...
I think this drama failed in China. The heat index keeps falling. The view count is terribleā¦.. It's minusā¦.
It is still top among the 10 on the iQiyi list and was top among the ten most watched dramas for last week ending Sunday. And got 300 million audience view count counted on Feb.11, 8:20 pm (see the poster in photo section). Heat index reached 8000+ on second day of airing, which was a very quick start but heat index is not the only way to evaluate popularity. One thing's sure, it is NOT a failed drama. Maybe you would like to persuade people here otherwise? How does that benefit you? And why is your watchlist empty+ page with Join Date: February 3, 2025 ?
The fact that she need to see someone else with PTSD to maybe start thinking that LZ was in such incredible pain…
I don't feel either are "at fault" : they are victims of circumstances.
She had increased tunnel vision (blocking out everything that looked irrelevant) about her relationship because of her own unacknowledged depression. She knew she had depression but hid it to herself as she couldn't accept it, not being a psychologist or having been around depression sufferers ; and even more hiding it to LZ since her principles always had been to "take care of herself" and "not burden others". It may look like selfishness but is not so easy to dismiss it as being a despicable flaw of hers.
LZ too felt she couldn't handle some information, so he concealed the full extent of his PTSD (just mentioning some symptoms in passing but not explaining his excruciatingly painful visions and nightmares. Just saying he had "headaches" and "nightmares", not more). Why would she look more into PTSD when she herself was suffering the same although in milder depression form which was narrowing her "mind focus"? (nobody told her that her depression was a form of PTSD so she did not look into it for herself, "depression" diagnosis was scary enough!) He did not act insane, so she did not want to stamp him as defective and affected by a "disorder" same as she could not really accept that she, herself, was defective and having a "disorder". She already had trouble enough with her physical eyes, and worries that she might go blind and become a burden. Coping mechanisms for her were: blocking the worst memories out and change her mind, not delve into hurtful subjects, do things such as write a narrative to make sense of her experience, go out watching places with Li Zan, eating good food, look at cartoons to escape, hugging and kissing (despite strangely not going further).
LZ knew she had these "stubborn" and "selfish" defects although he did not know about her eye condition. He too did not see the full picture... He concealed the death of Z, believing it would affect SR even more than it did himself, especially when he knew she would be torn between going and staying with her mom, and if the mom died when she was away she would blame herself for having been unfilial and too selfish about pursuing her love interest.
He was even more restrained than she was, physically, perhaps relieved that he could be allowed time to heal mentally "before marriage".
There were misunderstandings from both because of the psychological triggers that they couldn't face yet. Both were mentally ill and knew it without admitting it totally, and not looking forward to cast their love interest into the role of psychiatric help device.
LZ knew he could break down, perhaps sink into full formless psychosis, becoming as violent as the patient he tried to help in ep.26-27 and he did not want to risk SR seeing him in such a state. So he appeared selfish too in not telling her everything before he went back to Dongguo, but preferred to look selfish than to risk sending her into similar meltdown as he had experienced: he kept repeatedly viewing himself as having a hidden "abyss" in his mind which would drag her down (into it) if she knew it.
So things will change when she realizes she has looked more selfish than she thought he was, at the time when she callously sent an sms to break off with him because he chose to go and not to stay with her. She will try to redeem herself although she is too stubborn and proud to go down on her knees and ask for forgiveness. She has not known him long enough to be confident that he could forgive her. So she will start with going to Dongguo but stay apart first and inch her way back to his side since he is her only love obsession from first sight. The drama is not over though, and anything can happen in the turbulent country...
So sad that this drama is going to end tomorrow ššš„ŗ Going to miss the Li family ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Oh yes. It's going to be replaced in top ten by one of the two new "star shows" but neither of these should be as light hearted as this one was. Although, for mind balm fix, aside from more angsty or slow dramas, we can still turn back to re-watch Perfect Match ?
I was anticipating this drama since before it aired and to be honest I almost didnāt start this when I read…
But I admit I also was a bit sidetracked by another embattled drama. That one is also topping the weekly list in the other category (webdrama), but is diametrically opposite in feelings and pace to Perfect Match feel-good show.
Since I already loved the old song by Chyi Yu and am appreciative of the not stingy OST of 12 songs there, plus the leads, and have experienced both as helper and, at a different time, sufferer some of the symptoms described, I am watching that one too, but will warn those of you who are thinking of adding it to their watch list, that it is neither a sweet sizzle and kissing love story (there are some), neither a military drama despite the tags, but a much heavier themed one, derived from a novel in which the author did a world building which is both fictional and reflecting allegorically very real situations of the past and the present. -- That one may not be everybody's idea for "light entertainment in a drama" and that's totally understandable . So, for those who stick with it, despite slow pace, sometimes disjointed feelings and triggers for those with mood swings, and for those misled by the tags and expecting something else, I have added a full illustrated Companion piece there, to describe and explain a few things, and that took me of course longer than I thought it would (despite I started it back when it started shooting!)
I was anticipating this drama since before it aired and to be honest I almost didnāt start this when I read…
My take away (and it is not the first time) : don't linger on the negative comments, even better, just dive in and make your own, unadulterated, opinion. And if the hate comments are too many when later you look at the Comments section, just stop reading. Such a drama watch should not be tainted by negativity (indeed most dramas should also be viewed for pleasure, and not for getting lessons in how to gun down a show we like).
Some bitter people can't stop themselves from ruining the pleasure of others. They are so pleased with themselves to announce when they "dropped" it or how so-an-so they felt about the characters, as if these fictional ones had to conform to their views of 21st century social norms! They also often parrot others' negativity, in announcing how they judge a show from a couple episodes or an excerpt and comments elsewhere, which is excruciatingly dishonest.
But we'll just reply to our fellow satisfied peers : Happy drama watching! and will enjoy till end, even wistfully regret it could not be longer.
As the drama nears the end of its airing, the Douban rating is out (why so lukewarm?) and its standing reached top ten of the week, as computed on the Marcus Here! drama news show. There also was a sweet interview between the leads WXY and LYX, of which I cut a new GIF to add in the Notes, together with screenshots and links for the Douban and Top Ten. Enjoy!
My bet is that the conflict in Dongguo is a construct from several accounts and perhaps more modeled on the memories from the Yugoslavian split and war, since China has had and still has relations with the countries there, esp. Serbia. The olive tree and the white dove are symbols of peace and peace keeping forces since Antiquity in Greece, Roman empire, Christianity and Islam.
I will not give precise examples about what I did.
Suffice it to say I helped a little girl who had seen her mother douse herself with gasoline and torch herself to death, so she was the first case of genuine PTSD I encountered. Also worked with some autistic kids, and in another setting with inner-city young addicts and violence sufferers, some that also had been sentenced as violent... And was in the circle of a schizophrenia sufferer whose husband was working with lepers. Have been around in my different incarnations and seen a lot in different countries and continents through my "incarnations".
I prefer to stay zen and remain helpful, keeping a distance, from my "alien from deep space status" : non threatening, and not involving myself excessively in other people's business if they do not request my help. If they do, I help with making them do things they are not used to, discover things they did not know until they find what suits them. Experience riding school: learning to fall and get back into saddle. Or sing, listen to different music, find their own songs even if it is rap. Paint butterflies in my Eden garden where pear blossoms rain down in spring. Do taiji and dream themselves as actors of something like this new year show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teqXXgA4NL4 ("dreaming of the things that we could be")
The promotion work was more about what would appeal to audiences, such as "other country", "explosions", "bombs", so those who watched the trailers may have misunderstood it. To me, I had not read the book but thought it looked liked "terrorism" and aftermath. Love despite the odds between mental injury sufferers (it is a "Love On" tagged series so that has probably misled some to believe it is a "mature" love story when it is quite different. If you came for a sizzling sweet love story, of course you would be disappointed.).
Indeed. Wondering how heavy Liang Jie is and how much Chen Zheyuan suffered in that scene! š
Yes, I know. He doesn't want to be accused of being a delicate "little fresh meat" like martial arts veteran Jackie Chan once taunted the new generation, and CZY's agency views him as too much of a superhero.
Fact is some actors can go through injuries and recover, more or less, like Jackie Chan, Z.Tao, Wu Lei, Ren Jialun, Luo Yunxi..., but they had a different initial training in martial arts and physical workout, and LYX is not in best of health now.
Chen Zheyuan ought to be spared any excesses for a while, if the producers want to keep him as a golden goose. He is a damn fine archer, and seeing him with his arm in a sling now makes me sigh.
Despite I usually prefer actors who have other artistic talents such as a good voice (Tan Jianci, Z.Tao, Ren Jialun, Steven Zhang...). But CZY is my exception : he can "sing" with auto tune and even lip synching and I won't blame him ever, as he candidly admitted he had been selected to sing in the past to "look handsome", and handsome he still is! He's got humor and dedication to what he does. As for archery, he is a genuine champion.
Still, bear with that I am fickle and whimsical and not as faithful and thorough as apricity and yuanbaozi on X + some other dedicated fen are. So some sections need additions and some others need revisions... if I get around to do it.
