Maoyan Professional Edition Effective Play Ranking - April 10th TV Series TOP 10Champion: Mango TV, starring Wei…
Thank you Minmin3 for all the information you brought ! Let's wish for a nice Douban score. The drama did stay n°1 for a while in the "top ten" TV dramas according to drama reporter Marcus on his YouTube channel! 🙂
Yes, me too, even with the slow development : I was not really that much impatient that I wanted to scold our lawyer and his novel writer for dilly dallying, understanding their reasons. End episode is so nice . For those who are not there yet : don't miss the "after photo album of episode " parts! See you on another comments page next, Twinty! Cheers!
I'm a fan of Miles but idk who the FL is, seeing her for first time. And not a fan of broken past & Reuniting…
I can only quote another commentator below : "Recommended for romance drama lovers. Not for people who like intense stories, complicated plots, multiple plot twists, toxic relationships. Definitely not for those who critically appraise C dramas like a research paper 😂😂"
So examine what you like about Wei Zheming that could draw you to this drama which I considered as a "relaxing" one as opposed to the intense and sometimes painful ones that hailed down hard on screens these past weeks. An interesting note : in the last episode, Zhang Yuan who is mentioned cryptically as "guest" in the cast, takes more importance than just a walk through one. Look into the OST thread if you are curious...
The drama in my opinion is entertaining. It was announced as a short drama before airing so each episode is anywhere…
Hi, Cho Na! You always impress me with your passion for c-dramas! Have you thought of adding a list of specific short dramas to check out ?
I looked at first episodes on WeTV here, probably because of all the hate sent to the actress that feels like a regular witch-hunt - that sort makes me react strongly against haters and rekindle curiosity about the actress' work (as a counter to cancel culture), even if I can't claim to be a fan of hers. Despite I did have a drama featuring her in my C.Pieces list, mostly because of some background cultural details I thought were interesting, and because I seem to recall I had stumbled on a post from Liang Jie on her Weibo page at the time that she was going to watch it, which I found interesting as recom; that drama was entertaining enough for me although not "groundbreaking". - I had watched part of Ever Night before but did not finish, and little Ireine was not really on my radar. I have not followed much on either leads since that 2023 drama: I know, I am fickle and lazy, besides easily tired out these days.
I finally focus more on OST and other songs, now, including Rosy's new English song. -- Wondering what the titles, singers etc of the "little short drama" are: Baidu is not helpful this time and I have trouble accessing the drama Weibo https://weibo.com/u/7965657937 (perhaps the details of TMIMY OST are there?)
Are you are still maintaining the LYN OST song list? There are a few new songs to add :
Btw, The little drama is on WeTV, as I just checked. It's a short episodes one (12-15 minutes or so). First 8 episodes available with English, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish subtitle options, but for VIP members.
I urge those who find hate comments like the one from "Lehelene" to report them to MDL as "offensive" so those members be identified as breaking rules of membership. "Hate speech" goes against the rules of MDL.
i was expecting it bcs being watching in time with SOV and LBTG it is a provocation
I think you meant VoS (Veil of Shadow) the other one (apart from Love Beyond The Grave) of the two dramas that vie for attention. N°3 for Rebirth is not bad since these have very strong assets (super famous cast) and were long awaited original dramas, while Rebirth comes out as a "sequel", a position that seldom commands first place. To release Rebirth simultaneously with those two may look like tackling stiff competition perhaps unnecessarily. Is that what you think ?
As usual, women take the bigger blow. Fan Shiqi got a guest role but with a lot of scenes on a very popular drama…
Suicide is mostly an SK phenomenon?
Or a phenomenon touching young Chinese people who suffer from too much pressure at home, in schools, or in their first jobs. Awareness has been raised to promote better mental heath in China although few people seek professional psychological help. Some dramas have (on purpose, I think) portrayed various kinds of mental trouble to be treated : PTSD, depression, alcohol and other addictions. (although the PRC does not want to portray drug addicts in modern times, because of the Opium war legacy).
I am not aware that many Chinese celebs have been driven to suicide. The last high profile case was one in 2016.
China's suicide rates were one of the highest in the world in the 1990s. However, by 2011, China had one of the lowest suicide rates in the world. The suicide rate may be higher in Taiwan, where a study investigated the impact of media coverage following the suicide in 2024 of Chiung Yao, an 86-year-old best-selling novelist and cultural figure in Chinese-speaking societies, on suicide mortality and suicide attempts in Taiwan.
Even those sadly stricken by cancel culture in the PRC find ways to live their lives: Zhang Zhehan sings abroad although he keeps his home in Beijing; Deng Lun has centered on his commercial businesses (restaurants from what I read) ; Zheng Shuan keeps a low profile but has not left China. Zhao Wei and Fan Bingbing live abroad, although the latter "splits her time between HK and Hollywood". And Kris Wu who serves time for grievous crimes, bides his time in Chinese jail until his deportation, ruled for 2035 after his prison sentence is served: apparently, prison in China is not pushing him to suicide or to hospital.
It is reportedly on YouTube on Huashi TV channel "but at the moment, it is members only". Mentioned by Marcus, the online c-drama reporter in his latest YouTube report. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Eoa7XXAckc&t=618s
Visually, the costume and hair of the "ancient god" in TLoSL look very much like the one of Yuwen Yue…
Ah, but remarkable villains are needed in a drama worth its salt : Did you watch Pursuit of Jade? Actors Deng Kai and his young colleague Lin Muran were remarkable as psychopaths, and a few other guys likewise, who all have risen in attention since that successful costume drama.
I thought I would take a pause after watching that roller-coaster one (once the relatively "idyllic" part with funny pig butchering in first part and Zhang Linghe doing a scene that gleefully reminded me of Escape In the Dark Night, gave way to battles and bloody court intrigues), but I couldn't resist temptation faced with some current ones in the avalanche of dramas that are hitting screens. I may have too much on my plate now!
I have too much there to think about another "fandom exploration" anyway. Just sitting back and taking in a relaxing (but not totally brainless) show now: You Are My Fateful Love, where the lawyer protagonist agrees to defend a young man who everybody seems to believe is a murderer! But the main story is how a pair of former secret crushes will eventually bloom into a healthy match, from awkwardly defending an unlikely e-novel retelling of their past by the FL. Am moving on to next episode, or last ones since "express" is forecast to be soon there. Although I like to balance thriller drama watching with fluffy romance stories on the side, so: what is upcoming next in that category? Rebirth is on the heavy side and Veil of Shadows looks a bit confusing in first episodes. Love Beyond The Grave is also not exactly relaxing watch.
Visually, the costume and hair of the "ancient god" in TLoSL look very much like the one of Yuwen Yue…
Yes he's excellent! Not only in that drama. I saw several of his other ones and some movies he played in. He commands attention even when he looks "wooden" or "stony" cold, although he can drop that facade when the role needs it. Contrary to many other actors, he focuses only on his acting career, not singing, not taking part in many variety shows, although he did a game one for The Legend of Shen Li.
In BTS and fan videos, he appears as a free spirit with his own goals in life and work, unfazed by rumors as he is unfazed by weather, just living his life as he pleases, playing and interacting with his vast circle of friends and acquaintances. He is not squandering his money but has invested in some businesses like restaurants and hair salons, so he can afford not to be working his life away on productions! As a pet owner, he is fond of dogs like Corgis. He is not always aloof, did not mind stopping, even while he was doing his jogging in Hongkong once, to kindly greet a passing lady who recognized him or allowing an unplanned selfies and autograph session with his Kids fans in an airport. Perhaps he can afford to be so free, because the characters he plays are complex and not the kind that crazy fans will be drawn to mob him, so he can accommodate those fans (like Chen Zheyuan did before he got too famous and became the prey of celeb stalkers). He certainly was pleased when his c-ent colleagues respectfully addressed him as "Dr Lin" on learning during a Q&A that he was enrolling in cinema PhD studies in Shanghai (it is never too late to continue studying and get another degree in what he likes). Quite an interesting person, so he's one I amused myself "fandom exploring" for a while : I don't join formally and do not stalk every social media or live appearance of the ones I "explore", just research enough in a given period to get my own tolerant idea about the celeb, why does he choose the script he does, why is LGX not working non stop to exhaustion as some other ones do: clearly he has a balanced view of his own health so he will not starve himself or be pushed into depression as some more fragile actors are, and he had no qualms about jilting a crazy addict female suitor among the many who trailed behind him. He knows how to set boundaries. He does not sing but he is himself a faithful fan of some singers. What I most reprove about him is that he is a smoker and seems to be a clubs and games addict. But nobody's perfect, isn't it? He's got a right to be his own man - I won't quibble any more.
I did not hate his character in TToR : Fang Xiewen was after all very faithful to Huang Yimei/Rosie, his first love . He had proved his attention to her in the wooing part with making the room as appealing to her as he could through learning about art that was totally foreign to him but needed for her, the cat, the confession about how he had lured her into his net... He did accept her money to launch his company and fuel his own ambitions, but he did not abandon her next. He shamefacedly agreed when she asked for a divorce after he meddled with her new teaching career plans. But even after divorce, he took care of her and her daughter, did send help so she could live her love dream with the dying artist as she wished. Fang Xiewen was very much 180° opposite to her short lived and sick dream lover, but he was the responsible and down to Earth realist who knew he was chasing a goddess who would not stay by his side forever, who would leave him although he would always stay ready in case she needed him. He kept admiring her until the end, while making sure their daughter would be able to study and live comfortably even if that meant purchasing an apartment in the capital city, hundreds of miles away from his home and work base in Shanghai, frequently taking time to travel to make sure they were alright, and that their daughter would be able to have her mother visit whenever Yimei would like to. He was the most complex character in the cast, apart from Yimei herself.
The ones I could not abide were the awful Korean mother who wanted to break Yimei's spirit, deprive her of flowers and friends (even when her son had vetoed it) ; and the über selfish first lover, played by Peng Guangyin, who many viewers liked. I was not really admiring the two other guys, the one who knew he was dying, and the too young pilot. Rose was destined to end up alone, after cutting "earthly ties", and the last minutes of her found freedom, riding her motorbike into the sunset, was a nice closure for the joys and pains of her entanglements.
Thank you again, Peachey Blossom! I have added links to your videos in an OST Discussions thread, also duly mentioning the possibility of voluntary contributions to your valuable work !
Is FL in princess agent and FL here is same character?
Yes she was Xing'er aka Chu Qiao.
But actress in PA was Zhao Liying (then almost 30 years old) whereas Huangyang Tiantian here in Rebirth is 18, closer to the supposed age of the character who was around 14-15 at the height of her warrior-spy career (where she appeared both as childlike and uncannily mature beyond her years, which was easier for the original cast actress. On the other hand, HYTT may appear as too unlined, too scar-less from battle and torture, in this sequel, same as the other leads whose makeup is really too perfect, in my opinion, for warriors seasoned in ruthless battles. But that observation has no bearing on the quality of their acting, I'm sure.
FYI.Official Airing Schedule has been updated.Rebirth will be airing at 6 PM or 5 PM on MDL from today onward.https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5285746362814328
on MDL? Are you sure MDL is a platform to watch it on? 🤭
But Okay I see what you meant.
Am still procrastinating after starting this as a taster while struggling to finish the original "S1" (so many episodes - yes I should have watched that classic before, but got sidetracked then and after news of controversy and cliffhanger, just pushed it off for "later" which may mean years for me, lol - I am not a hasty drama watcher... ).
When Peachey will add the remaining couple of songs on YT (I get alerts for those as a "subscriber" to her channels) , I'll make sure to make a last revision of this OST thread. (Do thumb up her MVs, if you like her work and the music, and visit her YouTube page, through clicking on her name in MVs, to find her addresses for voluntary contributions or explore her drama related merch :) She is an esteemed member of MDL too.
I was amused because it was the same ao character as in àomén 澳门 (name of Macao)!
See you on another comments page next, Twinty! Cheers!
