(but less than 50k is too low a sample in China, meaning the drama did not find its audience easily...) Still, 6.5/6.6 Douban is NOT BAD (few get over 7, and just for numbers comparisons, the often vaunted "Eternal Love /Ten Miles of Peach Blossom" rates at 6.6)... Our Dazzling Days is a drama that may better be appreciated with time. The MDL 7.5 rating by 383 raters at time of writing is too low.
It shows that this drama was not the usual easy to consume romcom or youth drama that the foreign audience expected when they happened to notice it - it did not get much hyped, so only 2,390 declared on MDL that they watched one or more episodes... At a time when more flamboyant dramas mobilized attention (PoJ in March...) sadly, this non idyllic drama spanning years from 1990s Reform era till more recent times did not find its audience among that general public. Those who like Xu Ruohan, Guan Xiaotong and Johnny Huang Jingyu could still appreciate it and its nice OST.

Perhaps someone in MDL mistook a 0 for a 6 (the admins are few and overworked, as volunteers, and are usually very particular about not admitting other than English language sources, but that does not mean the typing in of data can't go wrong...)

I started watching it and I’m already on episode three lol I thought I was going to start this weekend but nope…
The novelist wrote her explicit fantasies about her crush, whom she believed had expatriated and would not be aware of her "fanfic" which might cause her trouble if he took offense at being thus used. She was not a wealthy person, and the lawyer could retaliate to destroy her current relatively cozy life. It's not being "a chicken" but not revealing things that could become a weapon against herself, and she knew the novel had pages that could be considered as going "too far".
The lawyer had a reputation so even if he still had a crush on her, even if he knew more about her than she thought he did, the reverse was not true and the novel, if revealed that it was modeled on him, might have repercussions on his business. The fact that his own fantasies were revealed in his sister's "plagiarized" or "different" novel, put online without his approval, made it awkward: he could not tell her who that other novelist was before making sure that the long ago attraction was still alive in her mind, since both appeared to have "moved on". Meanwhile, damage control was : proving that both stories were not a same true one about actual people. Letting readers believe the similarities were due to a leak in synopsis but that each had big differences, from pov etc.
Ruan Yu was too prideful to let go of her shield that all that she had written was fantasy and nothing else than an imaginary person, so even if he knew she had had a crush on him in the past, he couldn't be sure she would accept him as suitor suddenly., especially if he tore away that shield too brutally.
It's a game of hide and seek, until something happens to let them admit their mutual feelings. Up till now both strive to keep relations "professional" between client and lawyer, and even the small gestures can be seen as only "acknowledging a friendly visitor". (Except when Xu Huaisong, perhaps calculatingly, to check her reaction, started to unbutton his shirt 🤣).
Anyway, romance dramas are not real life, they are "for entertainment" and often more like fairy tales. If RY and XHS fell into each other's arms too quickly, there would be no drama. The fun is how long the charade will keep up and what mysteries may give more flesh to the story. It's a ride on the roller coaster, a game, a tango.... Fluffy enough to relax with. Just what was promised.

Oh no, you have lots to discover - I have not reached much further than what the blurb says up in the drama page. There will be surprises. But the beginning is somewhat relaxed. Hope you'll have time for it and will enjoy it!

Eps 5-6 Sweet sequences : Miles Wei Zheming as Xu Huaisong being instructed remotely about how to bathe a kitten ; and the lawyer, doing too many US-China flight journeys, falls easily asleep on his first visit to Ruan Yu's home, in waiting to be fed by his client/longtime (secret mutual) crush who lets him rest in her armchair.... Did we say this was a relaxing drama 😊?
Lots of pink blossoms on the trees in leafy Hangzhou city. The drama was filmed from February 2 till May 8, 2025 with a relatively small cast (Baidu lists 12 names). Liu Dong already directed Miles Wei Zheming in 2023 "I May Love You". Peachey Blossom has already put up MVs with translated lyrics for half of the 8 songs. Miles Wei Zheming does not sing on the OST for the drama, but "plays the piano". But he is also a musician and singer and he released an album in May 2025. Peachey Blossom put up at the time the MV with lyrics translation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJBjeaIQcEM He sings some words in English in that MV, but he is not perfectly fluent, as can be noticed in the drama, when he interacts with English speaking clients abroad (none in the cast appear to be dubbed by voice actors).
I'm amazed at myself for, despite not following deliberately nor exploring his fandom in depth, having watched already a dozen dramas in which he appeared as main or support since 2020 "Count My Lucky Stars" ! Bios say he is from Shandong province, declared he was divorced (MDL actor page has more about that), likes cats and dogs (I'm not sure he likes rain too 🤣) and favorite singer is Jay Chou (so he is classified as mandopop or r&b singer apart from actor having studied at Beijing Film Academy). Anyway, despite being on the low key side among actors, he's got "stage presence" not just because he is tall (1.83m). In one episode here already, he started to take off his shirt 🤣🤣🤣 but was stopped by the squeals of his client who was video conferencing with him! I'm not sure we'll be regaled with funny DGZ like show of abs and muscles: will we ? 😸
As for FL Zheng He Huizi, I have mostly watched dramas in which she played support apart from the 2022 xianxia "Song of the Moon" in which she played FL alongside Xu Lu, Vin Zhang Binbin and Wang Youshuo. She is an experienced actress for the role here which spans two timelines (2014 high school/college in flashbacks) and ten years later as mature novel writer.
