But did he have an anxiety attack, or did he fake it? Koh is pretty smart. He's playing to win.
I don't think it was given his social anxiety disorder, but if he did, that was a new low for him. I recall that in the novel, he actually did pass out.
Burnout Syndrome is the gift that keeps on giving where red flag characters are concerned and Off, Gun and Dew are making the most out of it.
The 7th episode blessed us with an electrically charged performance from Pheem. His words to Jira however can be interpreted in many ways, but for me, it came down to:
1) Projection 😡
Pheem seems to be projecting years of suppressed resentment unto Jira. I feel like at some point, he was actually yelling at Koh through Jira especially when he talked about going to tech week for five years... Alone! 😲 What does this have to do with Jira who wasn't even in his - or Koh's life for that matter - during those years? Take Jira away from the equation, and Lisbon, Maths and Koh's absence still hurts after all these years.
2) Brilliant but stupid 💡
The other thought was, Jira makes Pheem feels stupid. He says he's good at Maths and he'd never let anyone treat him the way Jira is currently treating him. 🙄 Of course, no one would ever dream of treating a player that way! He's just realizing that he can't Maths his way into Jira's heart.
But this interpretation feels like a contradiction.
Pheem claims to love Jira, but I don't see it. Tattooing someone's favorite piece of art on your body is not love. Saying that you'll get a job to look after someone who never asked you to, is not love. He just seems triggered by Jira's presence in Koh's life because in his own head, he's in a competition with Koh. He doesn't delight in who Jira is.
What Pheem's angry monologue revealed to me is that he's been stuck in a toxic codependency relationship with Koh for too long. His anger is messy, but it's not vindictive.
Earlier on, Pheem says he's healing, but to me, he's spiralling.
When Pheem stretches out his arms as if he's on a cross, he's like, what more of myself do I have to sacrifice? My sanity? Buddy, your sanity has already left the moment Jira bounced into your life.
Koh, Jira and Pheem are menaces to their own selves. Had they never met each other, Pheem would've still been stuck with Koh in a never ending codependency loop, Jira wouldn't have met Koh and be inspired and Koh would've still been the recluse who parades around his apartment in the only towel he owns.
Okay, so I finally caught up! These are the new notes I write while watching the latest episode:
* Mile is a good friend to Pleng. He is willing to go the mile just to bring him some closure. I now see why his name is Mile! 🤣 Yet, I don't trust him 100%. He's keeping secrets. I feel as if he knows what happened to Pleng years earlier.
* They keep mentioning that Pleng could've killed his ex or he's the murderer in the current case. With repetitions like that, I can now conclude that Pleng is not a killer. The ex probably died trying to save Pleng from whatever accident happened.
* Pleng is not Pleng. I feel as if his identity has been swapped or something. Like, did he witness the murder/killing of the "real" Pleng? Was he adopted to be in place of the original Pleng?
* Pleng is the real Pleng. His identify was reset by his grandmother through meds and hypnosis to "help" him forget what he witnessed so many years ago.
* Pleng's mother is a key witness to whatever crime was committed many years ago. Maybe she was Tanu's secret lover. Maybe Tanu is Pleng's real dad. 🤔 Maybe mommy is a murderer.
* Grandma was looking at a photo and looking sad over it. Could it be that Pleng's mother killed her own grandpa? Or did she kill her own husband? 🤔 Or did Grandma kill her daughter's husband?
* Earlier in my notes, I was obsessed with the "melody of secret" being a recording of sorts. After watching Tan play the violin and Pleng reacting, I think the "melody" is a recording hidden inside the violin. Maybe that recording will reveal the light through the fogginess of Pleng's memory. Maybe it'd prove that Pleng's mother is a killer or uncover some unhealthy family secret.
* I feel as if this is about who agreed to keep the truth buried. Grandma? Mom? Tanu?
* Mile has been in love with Pleng since they were probably teenagers. So Mile may know a lot of things concerning Pleng's family. That's why I can't quite leave Mile off the suspect list.
Extra notes:
I've said that I LOVE Boun's character in this! Mile is my favorite character in this series, but you know, you can't really trust a journalist. Mile goes the mile to help clear Pleng's name, but Mile could also go the mile in covering up a crime, in drugging Pleng to suppress his memory ... Mile is suspended between good and evil right now for me. He could've found out that Pleng's accident wasn't really an accident, but one committed by Pleng's family. He could've found out Pleng's mother was a murderer and he tried shielding Pleng from that discovery. If Pleng is implicated, Mile might want to take the fall given his loyalty and perhaps, guilt? BUT! I want to believe that Mile is a sweetheart. He seems to genuinely care about Pleng.
And the doctor. I don't trust her entirely. I don't know why I think she and Mile are secretly working together. 🤔 But most likely, they're helping Pleng and it's that therapist who is a nasty piece of job and Jen may eventually undo Pleng's hypnotic state.
Gaa! Been so busy that I forgot about the finale! I'm seeing something about Peach and Me. Is that a special or the S2 I was hoping for? 🤔 Let me go watch the finale and catch up. I don't like being behind at all. 😤
And Dew delivered that monologue so good that I had to clap. He has improved so much, but this is the best I've…
Right, and the thing is, he never even sat down to explain to Jira that he'd like to provide for him, he simply assumes even after all of that talk with Jira.
Exactly. Like he was confident that Jira would come. Jira complains a lot, but truthfully he does like Koh and…
Yes, Jira cares about him in his own way, just not in a lover's way. I still don't think that's love Pheem is feeling. He's attracted to Pheem, yes, but his love is twisted if he thinks that's what it is.
I think a lot of ppl misunderstood Pheem in that scene.IMO, he wasn't bragging about being the best.He was saying…
Those are my thoughts on first watch. Normally, I watch the episode two or three times before making final thoughts. And I do agree with you because while rewatching the scene I was thinking that Pheem was probably saying, "Look, I've excelled in this and that, but why do I feel so stupid when it comes to you "
I like that there are many ways to interept a scene. It's always interesting to see what people take away from it.
