Title Pit Babe
"Omegaverse"

My gag reflex kicked in at the mention of this "straight-with-extra-steps" genre. I won't accept any creature with the ability to go into heat and bear offspring as man, male, or human. The dynamics between omegas and alphas, predicated on the potent, coercive influence of pheromones, are distasteful enough. They reduce those involved to beasts. No longer are they autonomous agents, but rather slaves to their chemical impulses and scents

Given my negative reaction to the term "alpha" and its implications, I won't be able to watch "Pit Babe." It's a tragedy that "omegaverse" has again sullied what could've been a delectable gay treat

Romanticizing kidnapping and other problematic behaviors is the new "cute" these days, society's standards for entertainment have hit rock bottom

Kidnapping is problematic. It's not a matter of opinion or personal feelings, it's a matter of law and basic decency. When faced with unrequited feelings or rejection, the proper response is to move on and find someone else to pursue a relationship with

You might not personally see the problem with kidnapping in this context, but please respect those who find it problematic. Implying that they are over/hypersensitive or immature is immature

A happy ending can be a fitting and satisfying conclusion

Here, the characters weren't given the depth and development they need to make their journey towards a happy ending feel sincere. It's a writing issue

I'm happy that you've found peace in the act of forgiveness

In my personal experience, the act of forgiveness is a speck of dust that I can brush away with a flick of the wrist, or not. The person I don't forgive isn't a constant presence in my mind. It’s like, "I’m not forgiving you today? Cool, I’m going to enjoy my tea, study, work, watch BLs/GLs and live my life"

It's a choice whether to forgive or not forgive. Both paths are valid, and neither path has to define you or hold you back

Forgiveness isn't easy or the right choice for everyone. It can be a betrayal of one's feelings or a forced acceptance of what was done to them

"Forget about it and move on" is a lot to ask of someone who's been hurt

As someone who lives in a country with major bear crisis and attacks on WEEKLY basis, no, I do not choose bears…
Those of us who see our species for what it is don't need to hurry our demise. The Grim Reaper will find us eventually, and our brief candle will be snuffed out

We need to simply make the decision to not have children/propagate the species, that'll reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to the health of the planet

As someone who lives in a country with major bear crisis and attacks on WEEKLY basis, no, I do not choose bears…
Most women won't encounter a bear in their lifetime, much less be faced with the situation of having to defend themselves against one. Men are a more prevalent and recurring factor in the daily lives of women, with dire consequences. They have greater upper and lower body strength than women, giving them an advantage in physical confrontations. They use brute force or underhanded tactics that are difficult to guard against (ambushing, setting traps, and the like). A woman's physical strength is no match for larger, stronger men, you can't always overpower them

Humans don't keep their own numbers in check, they're not qualified to dictate the population levels of other species. They infest every corner of the globe with their fleshy, bipedal fungus-like expansion, taking up space, gleefully attacking and devouring thousands of non-human animals without so much as a second thought and then crying foul that a bear came to eat a few of them for dinner ... Do you see how silly that is? We shouldn't minimize the horrible effect men have on women by focusing on some "horrible" bears

As someone who lives in a country with major bear crisis and attacks on WEEKLY basis, no, I do not choose bears…
I've had my fair share of run-ins with bears, and let me tell you, they're not the bloodthirsty beasts of the woods they're made out to be by misinformed humans. They won't attack unless they feel threatened. Humans intrude on their natural habitats and aggravate them, it's no wonder the bears feel compelled to respond with aggression

When bears attack, they give a heads up with growling or bluff charging. Men don't do that. They can be dangerous any time, any place, and you won't know when they'll strike

Every country is dealing with a major man crisis and women are in danger of being attacked/assaulted by men every second of every day. You're better off with a bear

If I'm going to meet my untimely demise at the hands of a wild beast, I'd rather it be a bear than a man. The bear will have the decency not to rape my remains. That's more than I can say for most men

Quality is subjective. What one person considers to be "thoughtful" wouldn't be thoughtful to another

The positive reception this review has garnered reflects that many people agree with the opinion expressed, it doesn't negate the possibility of dissenting opinions. The comment that you've deemed "ridiculous" is a valid expression of dissent

Feminine submissive men aren't less men, but in BL they are regressive models of the worst, most misogynist stereotypes…
Pardon my intrusion, I'm not the person you were addressing, but I can't resist the temptation to share my thoughts on the subject at hand

I believe the "critique" of feminine, submissive men in BL series as misogynistic reveals more about the critic's biases and misogynistic beliefs than it does about the series themselves. You strip the "worst" women of their individuality, reducing them to weak, inexperienced, unintelligent stereotypes, and then use these stereotypes as a measuring stick for any man who exhibits similar qualities

Weak, inexperienced, or unintelligent men aren't woman-like or like the worst women, there's no need to use the negative qualities associated with women as the benchmark for men's "inadequacy"

"Where did he complain about BL/gay stories being too happy?"

Re-read the review, @Honglou Meng has a preference for stories that occupy an ambiguous middle ground between happiness and sadness. They claimed, "[happy BLs] don't resonate with me ... this show exists in the in-between space, and that's what appealed to me the most. Love mixed with hatred, levity with weight, humour with sorrow"

They seemed to be complaining about how "happy BLs are too happy for them"

Then they should stop taking queer source material in the first place.
"... different human races can be superior or inferior to each other ... queer people don't deserve to exist"

Your opinions are crossing the line into harmful territory, that's where we draw the line

"You *don't* think it's wrong to give into the system at all, otherwise you wouldn't be here repeatedly calling for what you want inside it"

I lend my emotional, financial support to independent gay art. Not only am I a patron of these revolutionaries, I'm a vocal advocate for increased gay representation in mainstream media

I'm not content with existing outside of the system I hate. I wish to bring about its downfall. To this end, I'm adopting a strategy of subversion, to infiltrate the system like a Trojan horse and introduce the radical, revolutionary gay elements that will sow the seeds of its destruction from within. You need to be on the inside to make a difference

I have presented my perspective and you have presented yours, I see no further benefit to be gained from the continuation of the conversation

The system that suppresses queer content and the individuals who give into the demands of the system are both at fault

Opinions are subjective, they can't be wrong or incorrect. If someone feels that subtext or subtle allusions to queerness in media don't do enough, their opinion is correct to them

In my opinion, there are wrong ways to tell a "queer" story. Like having a queer character who appears for 5 seconds and is never mentioned again

Subtext is implied text. The writer might not have intended to include it, but viewers can see and derive their own meaning from it

Queer artists fight tooth and nail to get representation on screen, and that's precisely why we need to aim higher than subtext. We've been conditioned to accept subtext as a victory. The real victory is when queer artists can create and share their stories without fear of rejection or censorship

I do see where you're coming from, you have your opinions, and it's been interesting to discuss them with you

I plan to watch this drama. Tae Ri is a talented actress and I enjoy her performances. I hope you too have a great time watching them

I'm a gay woman, I can empathize with my fellow gay individuals who find comfort in the limited, subtextual representation available in media

I'm not boycotting these media outlets, I'm fighting homophobic censorship and advocating for better representation. A work that has been censored or otherwise diminished in its queerness hasn't reached its full artistic potential. It's held back by societal pressures. I don't have a problem with seeing that

It's therefore unfortunate that some individuals, such as @frings, are creating division by pitting those who wish for better representation against those who find comfort in the limited representation available

"Giving backslash to queer works that are moving the needle for not moving it "enough" is counter-productive"

Critiquing something for not doing enough isn't the same as silencing or trashing it. We're showing our support for these queer works by encouraging them to do more

Small steps forward make a difference, but don't give praise to every work with the bare minimum of queer subtext. Subtext is a fancy word for "what the writer was too chicken to say outright." You're implying that you're satisfied with the system, that you don't need media to go all-in with representation. It throws you a bone and you wag your tails in gratitude. So, media stays in its comfort zone, seeing no reason to budge anytime soon. That's a cheap imitation of change and progress

You're playing the "subtext or nothing" game with society and giving bigots a free pass to keep being bigots. You might as well hand them a megaphone and say, "keep yelling, we'll keep whispering in the corner over here." No thanks. If we're going to whisper, at least whisper about revolution

Here's a question though, do you think a lesbian drama would have faced the same push back? I find homophobes…
The homophobes looking for a reason to complain would find one no matter what

Negotiating with a homophobe by censoring gay content is a losing battle that reinforces their harmful behavior and increases their demands

Creators of gay content should never feel the need to apologize for their work or compromise on the messages they wished to originally convey. At the end of the day, they can't please everyone. They should stand firm and be proud of the gay works they created

Subtextual queer content: "I'm not homophobic, I have a gay character/couple ... somewhere, maybe"

Subtext isn't a substitute for representation. It's open to interpretation and can be easily overlooked or misinterpreted

I prefer producers to have the courage to faithfully adapt gay works. Producers who are concerned with their image and profits should write their own closeted stories that dance around the issue. They shouldn't play hide-and-seek with gay works
