Please tell me what happened. I dropped it at episode 13 because i felt so bad Ryu Shi oh.
On Strong Girl Nam Soon Nov 26, 2023
I dragged myself through watching episode 13 because it started to bore me. The only reason I kept watching was that I had already seen over 10 episodes and felt the need to finish it. However, after the 13th episode, I decided to drop it because I couldn't bear to see Ryu shi Oh getting betrayed and hurt by someone he trusts more than his life. The writers really did him dirty. He already had a very sad history and was raised with no one else to love or rely on. Why make him trust and genuinely care for this one person who ends up hurting and betraying him? It's so sad. I already had a hard time hating him, given his history and how he behaved with Nam Soon. I can't bear to see him get heartbroken and be portrayed as a 'bad character' because of the so-called 'good Nam Soon.'

With that being said, can someone spoil me the ending please? Thank you so much

Title Castaway Diva Spoiler
So, I have a question that I've been pondering since last week's episode. I'll write it below with the spoiler…
In the first two episodes, they showed Ki Ho living on that island with his father when he was 16. How is it that he not only has a mother but also a brother? Where were they when he was staying with his father on that island? Is the time they showed when they all lived together before he moved to the island with his father or after Mok Ha goes missing? How were only his mom and Woo hak able to get away from his father when Ki Ho couldn't? The most crucial part is how he's one year younger yet could be in the same class as Mok Ha during middle school. Did I miss something?

On Strong Girl Nam Soon Nov 17, 2023
Initially, I was super pumped about this drama, couldn't wait for the next episode. But, they kind of ruined it for me with some unnecessary stuff. It's not even about their age or anything, but they're putting way too much spotlight on the grandma's love story. Sometimes it feels like more than the main couple, which is a bit cringy and too much for me.

And, oh boy, the whole drug thing? Too much focus. Now, most people (including me) are shipping Ryu Shi Oh with Nam Soon instead of the main lead. They get more screen time together than the actual leads! Kang Hee Sik seems more like a sidekick than the main role. Plus, Nam Soon's acting all childish. She doesn't have to be childish because she was raised in Mongolia right? Having an accent or a different personality would be understandable , but she's just coming off as annoyingly childish.

And, I feel bad for the so-called villain. The way they've portrayed Ryu Shi oh makes you sympathize more than hate him. It's like, villains don't create themselves; society plays a part. I was expecting the same vibe as 'Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,' but they totally lost the balance here. Too much focus on side stories instead of the main deal.

The only reason I'm still watching is to finish what I started. This drama had potential, but they missed the mark.

i finished it now and im gonna f cry wHyy😭😭 that was a mf big betrayal of the scriptwriters ill have you…
Exactly. It's been weighing on my heart. Trying to shake off the impact of Yi Chan's story is taking me some time. While I understand it's fictional, I can't help but dwell on the challenges and sacrifices Yi Chan had to endure after the accident. It seems he was never the same after that. And thinking that song might've been his last? Man, that hits hard.

Many argue that the narrative conveys a powerful message about disability not being a setback, and I agree. Chung Ha, despite her disability, was already shining. However, the decision to give a character like Yi Chan a disability raises questions. Why burden someone who was initially healthy? Yi Chan, known for enjoying life and the company of others, faced a profound loss. Losing something you once had is different from never having it at all. No one chooses to be disabled; given a choice, most would avoid it. While a disability doesn't ruin one's life, it can cost a lot. This is especially true when acquired later in life, which adds to the sadness. Eun Gyeol had the opportunity to make a choice for Yi Chan but couldn't. That's cruel. The 'what ifs' linger in my mind – if Ma Joo hadn't taken the cassette, if Eun Gyeol had stayed with Yi Chan that day. The fate changed so much in other ways, so why not that part of Yi Chan's life?

I know most people here are cool with how it all played out, they even say it's for the best. But for me, no matter how awesome the drama was, my heart just gets heavy when I think about it

Life is unfair. Sometimes bad things happen to good people and you can't do anything about it. From the first…
Thank you for your thoughts, but i can't agree with what you said. Although I agree that it was a wonderful drama (except for the ending), this whole 'realistic ending' stuff doesn't really sit right with me. I get realism is a thing, but seriously, why does every drama, even the fantasy ones, have to wrap up with some 'realistic' or 'lesson-learning' ending? We signed up for a fantasy ride, not a reality check. I'm tired of hearing things like 'that's bitter, but that's reality' or 'this ending teaches you a lesson.' Like, really? In a fantasy drama where nothing's real from the start, why hit us with reality at the end? Our everyday life is already full of life lessons and harsh realities and dramas are our break from them. Can't we just enjoy a bit of fantasy at least in dramas without being dragged back to reality? Why can't we allow ourselves a little fantasy in this escape, without constantly being reminded of reality? Many people, like myself, watch dramas precisely to escape reality, and it's perfectly fine to have some unrealistic endings in them for the sake of enjoyment.

I'm so tired of "lesson learned" type of endings!
Totally agree. I'm so glad to find someone who shares my sentiment. I'm also tired of endings that aim to teach lessons or mirror reality. Our everyday lives are already filled with lessons and harsh realities. Can't we just savor some fantasy while watching a drama? What saddens me the most is that even fantasy genre dramas are leaning towards so-called 'realistic' and 'lesson-learning' conclusions nowadays, and it seems like everyone else is okay with it, except for a minority who find it bothersome.

and I'm gonna miss yi chan's smile 😃
Me too. That's what makes me sad. His playful smile in 1995 was something special. I can't help but feel like he really lost that playful part of his life after the accident.

After finishing the drama, I immediately came here to read others' comments, realizing I might be the only one feeling this way. Despite that, I want to share my perspective, as it's my way of bidding farewell and coming to terms with it.

Like the majority of viewers, I also really loved this drama, except for one aspect that continues to weigh on me—Yi Chan losing his hearing. No matter how hard I try, I can't view that part in a positive light. The 18-year-old Yi Chan's pain deeply affected me. While he eventually led a happy life in 2023, I can't reconcile with what he had to endure and sacrifice in 1995. Why did he deserve that? The carefree, fun, social butterfly Yi Chan didn't deserve such a fate. The moment his dreams flashed before his eyes during the surgery, I couldn't help but cry. I held onto hope until the last moment, wishing for a temporary loss and a subsequent recovery, but the writers chose a cruel path.

I'm genuinely disappointed, and no matter how hard the writers tried to sugarcoat it, I can't fully accept what happened to Yi Chan. Despite being my favorite drama since the first episode, the fact that he still lost his hearing has somewhat tainted it for me. It will be a scar in my heart for a while. Nevertheless, it was a genuinely good drama. However, I doubt I'll re-watch it; I don't have the heart to do so. I'll miss our watermelon gang.. ✨🍉

logic doesnt matter in this story, just live in the moment innit
If everything goes well, I'll also be able to enjoy the story and live in the moment without fixating on logic, as you said. However, if things take a downturn, particularly if everyone else is doing really well except for one character, I can neither enjoy the story nor ignore the logical aspect

why do u guys hate deaf people so bad... theres nothing wrong with yichan becoming deaf... it would be so much…
"Hating on deaf people" is such a strong thing to say. I believe none of us who wish for Yi Chan to be prevented from the accident/disability do so because we think it would make him less appealing/likable or that it would ruin his life. Instead, it's because everyone would be happier to see him continue his current life rather than a life where he had to give up his dreams of pursuing music, going to college, and talking to his friends. We want to keep seeing him in his present self, where he can talk, have fun with his high school friends, continue doing music, and make his grandmother's dreams come true. After all, such a life for him would be better than the one he led after giving up his original dreams. Of course, many other things will change despite his disability, yet if he were to lose his hearing, many things in 2023 would still be the same. I guess that's why a lot of people are desperate to see him safe. If viewers hated "deaf people" , they wouldn't have loved Chung Ah this much. Not only me, but I believe the majority of people's favorite character is Chung Ah. So it's not because of the disability itself. It's all about the consequences that will differently impact Yi Chan, as he's getting the disability later in life.

I really wonder about the writer's purpose here. Ha Eun Gyeol came to the past, and the purpose seems to be changing his parents' fate, which he mostly did. Thanks to Ha Eun Gyeol, his parents met earlier, fell in love, and even Chung Ha's family situation got better. He also changed all the bandmates' fates. They all could be changed. But why not just Ha Yi Chan's accident? 'No matter what we do, we can't change fate'—this is not applicable anymore since the 'fate' of everyone around Yi Chan has changed a lot, so why not only Yi Chan's? If the accident should take place, they could've taken a different approach for that. An accident leading to a disability caused while Yi Chan was saving Eun Gyeol will haunt him for the rest of his life. Of course, if Yi Chan were to experience hearing loss, the story will still show some sort of a happy ending for him, but that will never justify the guilt that Eun Gyeol will have. I'm not saying Yi Chan's life would be ruined if he were to experience hearing loss because he has already lived his life wonderfully with the disability. But still, since he had his own dreams for the future and struggled a lot through his childhood, I believe he'd be better off if he were prevented from the accident. Getting a disability later in life can be a lot harder than having it from the very beginning. That's the reality. It's harder individually, and no matter how much we hate to admit it, society will always make it harder when something like that happens. So personally, I'll be very disappointed if he were to experience deafness again after the accident. Hopefully, it'll be just like episode 15, which was nothing like the preview shown in episode 14.

What do you mean, 'Ki-ho' lost his memory'? Did you watch episode 6? 'Ki-ho' never lost his memory to begin with
Excuse me, I wasn't trying to be aggressive at all. I simply attempted to explain what happened in simpler terms because he/she mentioned that English is not their native language. The reason I replied to their first comment is that when I saw it initially, I also got confused and wanted to check if I also misunderstood who Ki Ho is. I'm not sure which part of my explanation or the other comment came across as "aggressive," as I have no reason to be aggressive in the first place.

What do you mean, 'Ki-ho' lost his memory'? Did you watch episode 6? 'Ki-ho' never lost his memory to begin with
Oh, got it. Let me explain it in simple terms. In episode 6, we learn that Ki Ho is actually Bo Geol, not Woo Hak. Woo Hak is the one who lost his memories . He lost his memories because he was injured while protecting Bo Geol (who's Ki Ho) from abusive dad. Ki Ho had another brother, as shown in a family picture at their abusive dad's house in episode 6. One of them was younger Ki Ho, and the other was younger Woo Hak. If you watched episode 6, you'd notice the boy in the hospital after the injury wasn't the actor who played Younger Ki Ho but the other one (Younger Woo Hak). So, to wrap it up, the one who lost memories wasn't Ki Ho; it was Woo Hak. Ki Ho is actually Bo Geol.

I really like how Bo Gyeol's focus is only on Mok Ha and her future - he's giving her a rare opportunity to show…
No need for suspicion; he obviously knew about the lip-syncing, and it was clearly showed in episode 4. During their elevator encounter, Woo Hak shared with Bo Geol about Ran Joo's vocal challenges at the local festival, where Mok Ha first lip-synced for her. This triggered Bo Geol's flashbacks of Mok Ha singing on the rooftop and Woo Hak praising her voice on the local festival day. It was at that moment he became aware of the entire lip-syncing situation.
