Title Shine on Me Spoiler
I'm on episode 4 and I really don't feel like continuing, does anyone have any reviews about the drama up until the latest episode? I don't really see how the mfl and XZ have anything going on? Mfl just decided to like him, confessed to him, then let everything he and Rong and that other girl did like it was nothing? I would've been pissed. It'd have made more sense if she grew distant from them, but no suddenly it skips to graduation like it's nothing. Her dynamic between her and her cousin is literally so endearing to watch, it's such a cute familial bond. But then come her friends who didn't even defend her aside from literally 1. And she still forgives and speaks to them? Forgiving is okay! Just let it take some time? It's like it was too sped up. The first two episodes took so long and were insanely confusing to watch, whereas episode 3 suddenly dumped every info on us and said here have fun with figuring this out on your own. I don't see where the fml would've fallen for XZ? Then we see her protect herself and her friend fiercely, only to end up forgiving her friends in an instant. I don't know if it's bad writing or if it's just her being human tbh, it can be interesting if it's the latter where she's just young and didn't feel like dragging it on, but at least show how she acts different around a few of them? No?? Just them happy at graduation like nothing happened. And this annoyance of a sml who won't let her go with his damn stoic face😭 I'm sorry I really need something to go on. I don't have any thoughts on the main lead either because well he seems to not like her but it's definitely going to be a "misunderstanding" later on. Anyway not spoilers just show me it's worth it?

I'd like to agree with what you said, but also not on some aspects. Just sharing my opinion! I like talking about shows :) I don't know if the writers wanted to romanticize Jen Yao, so I can't rlly speak about that. But I'd like to think Jen Yao and the people around him did not. You are right about how Jen Yaos story could've been deeper, because aside from the love (if we can even call it that) he held for Hsiao Tung, he didn't have much going on for him. I guess this can be explained by the lack of love he received aside from Hsiao Tung, and the seven years in jail without proper socializing, but I think they could've still made his personality have a bit more depth by actually going through this point. We barely know anything about him, and I didn't find the "killed out of love" aspect fitting UNLESS (which I explained in my review) he didn't. His love was more of an obsession somehow? Not in the scary way! He was young, found someone who cared and attached to her. He got thrown into jail after failing to protect her and stabbing someone, spent 7 years in there. Losing a chunk of his youth and young adult life. Then was forced to go socialize with people again, working for the one person who stopped him from trying to save his girlfriend. A year goes by like this and he's back in jail. He hasn't known much besides the love he held for Hsiao Tung, thinking only about her because there wasn't anything else to think about. He killed them after she told him he shouldn't have stopped her, after saying he didn't deserve to move on when she didn't. It was a wish he had to fulfill, because if he didn't who would? I think he took it upon himself to protect the only girl he knew growing up, but not out of love necessarily. Moreso obsession?
