Not sure. But the Golden Angel Awards is quite prestigious. It is the only Chinese American cultural event in…
I did too but I persevered and finished it eventually. It is one of her most popular overseas; I wonder if the title has something to so with it. Lol! I think there were too many scenes about the 2nd lead and I found it too long.
Not a fan of Seven Tan at all or Fair Xing. I don't know why. I watched a clip of her in Under the Power and disliked the way she threw herself at the ML, it was embarrassing to watch. (I know it is just the script and not her but it put me off) I don't like Reba acting like that either and is possibly the reason why I initially dropped Sweet Dreams. I didn't like her as Gao Wen either.

Yes, a Republican era drama would be interesting and there's a lovely FMV going around with her and Yang Yang…
Wow, you write well! Agree with your reasoning, especially Reba doing one mainstream role and one experimental one; I like your Vigilante idea further down a lot, maybe going after human traffickers and setting herself up as bait! Reba did a small film called 'The Date' where she is deaf, did you watch it? She got some award for it I think.
The dramas are only going to be as good as the scripts available and as you say those reflect what the public wants; you can have a romance in any genre and it doesn't have to dominate the plot and still satisfy most tastes. Dramas and films have to rake in money so change may take time to happen; could production companies take a gamble and experiment even if it makes a loss? China has to open up to the rest of the world and an exchange of ideas has to take place, this is probably happening even now given the political climate at present acting as a catalyst. What do you think?
The Ball Lightening (BL) is something different and will be like a litmus test; she may be 'grey' in it but we get the background story and understand the cause of her behaviour, empathise with her and finally we are awed by her. I agree we need to see her back story and the extenuating circumstances which flip her over to the dark side or else it may make her unpopular. I hope the BL script is so spectacular that it becomes outstanding and is a classic in C-drama history. The novels by the author are being hailed internationally and adapted for cinema so I hope the Sci-Fi genre takes off in a big way. Sorry for a late response; just thought I'd add my ha'penny worth. I hope I made sense!

I dropped Sweet Dreams after the 1st ep. then went back to watch it again because there were no more Reba dramas! I must have been in a good mood or something cos I couldn't stop laughing it was so hilarious! The dream scenes later are a hoot and Ling Ling's parents are priceless!

I would have watched it ages ago but I'm going to see Allen with Reba first then consider his other dramas. Not a fan of most of his FL's I'm afraid. Though I do like Bai Lu and Janine Chang.

Hahaha! Poor bunny! Wow, Anle wrapped already so we should get an announcement soon hopefully. You reckon Yibo looks the same age as Reba?

Season two has been completed I heard. Scenes from the second half of the book have been leaked. I loved the novel too and read it twice already.

Title Ball Lightning Spoiler
I don’t care who the ML is since there is no romance between him and the FL. Personally think it will be better…
Agree with your reasoning . Although there is no romance, the ML has ambiguous feelings for the FL and makes a declaration but she tells him that they are too different and it wouldn't work. She already has a boyfriend but there is no interaction between them in the novel. A bit wishy washy I'm afraid.
There is a hint that FL has feelings for 2nd ML but romance has no place in his life although he understands her best and recognises that both are much alike. The screenplay may be different and may expand this aspect. The author isn't good with romances but is better with family relationships, like between FL and her father.

I hope someone turns this into a full donghua but following the source material closely. My little heart will…
It would be quite sexy I think! I mean the characters look gorgeous! We could have them married and as parents, in fact all the things that we missed in the drama could be included. The animation is so slick!

I heard a rumor they r casting Reba and Leo Wu in some brother-sister role next year? Anybody knows more about…
Thanks. Not a lot of info so hopefully fake and yes it would be a waste Lol! B Station has many FMV's of them in both modern and costume storylines.

LOA is about to wrap up and this starts filming in Dec? We need the cast!
I think we will see many Sci-Fi films and dramas soon due to the changing political climate in China vis-à-vis the world. Yes, the Government's interest in space exploration is exactly a significant indication of future directions.
The previous two films were a few years ago but they have at least created a springboard for other Sci-Fi projects; useful lessons will have been learnt too from the mistakes made.
Additionally, with American film makers like HBO (Game Of Thrones) taking an interest in Liu's novels, Chinese counterparts will not be left behind. Hence, the making of 'The Three Body'

Watching the Bird Eggs channel sometimes on YT and they are taking this friendship the extra mile.
Yes, all the different CP fans have come out and plastered their videos all at the same time on YT; so that's why!

Since she's a Uyghur I think she would be under a lot of pressure in the West. That seems to be a no go.
They might use her for propaganda you mean? Most likely.

LOA is about to wrap up and this starts filming in Dec? We need the cast!
Yes, two that I know of; Shanghai Fortress did OK but not too well and is let down by being a 'Youth love story cloaked as a Sci-Fi'. (Not my words) The Wandering Earth by the same author as Ball Lightening (BL) got a 7.9 Bean Petal rating (Sequel out in 2023) and a 6.0 IMDB rating.
Liu Ci Xin has been compared to the likes of Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke and the rights to his books are bought out soon after publication. Liu said in an interview that BL was particularly well suited to television more than his other works. Hollywood (HBO) is also set to adapt his works for TV. Why Sci-Fi is not yet a buzz word in China is explained thus:

"After all, the soil on which sci-fi movies are established lies in the cultural environment [rather] than their roots in society.

This is also one of the reasons why Hollywood is rich in science fiction:

The short history of the United States and the abundance of material and cultural levels are enough to support their interest in the future world.

However, China, with a long history and a relatively low level of material and culture, does not have a strong foundation and desire to consume science fiction films in nature." (Source Baidu)

Plus the budgets for SFX have to be spectacular and it has to rake in lots of money and this is why BL hasn't been started. Cheng Si Cheng bought the filming rights for BL from Daniel Zhang (Producer/Director) for 30 Million RMB (I assume that's the denomination) in 2016 and he in turn bought the rights as early as 2008. Will this drama gets off the ground this Dec? Lets hope so. The trailer for 'The Three Body Problem' has come out. (Sequel to Ball Lightening)
We have to include A.I. in this genre too and the recent British inspired 'Humans' (with Ma Tian Yu) did fairly well too. Slowly but Surely the trend for looking to the future is rising.
