So is" untamed" a brotherhood?Is "WoH" a brotherhood?Is "ultimate note" a brotherhood?
I wrote this post, not to preach, but to defend the drama from the easily triggered who are cursing below because they think this drama is gay. I don't want misinterpretation of bromance to bring hate to the drama, the actors and most importantly, to LGBTQ people.
I am not part of fandom, therefore if I didn't know anything about the Untamed, and I heard it has bromance, I would think it's like Nirvana in Fire. Maybe I am I simple, but why can't a BL be called a BL? 1. There's no censorship on MDL. 2. All BLs in China are censored so knowing it's Chinese, one should not expect it to be Thai. 3. It's a lot shorter to type. Efficiency and clarity.
All that said, even though this just has bromances, I would understand why viewers may ship these characters as more than that. It's their prerogative even if the drama didn't intend it that way. As long as we are enjoying the drama, how we love it can be different and equally not wrong. I am just wary of how misinterpretation of terminology would prevent someone from discovering that enjoyment.
Reading some fiery comments, my unwanted 2 cents definitions.
Bromance: Close non-sexual friendship between men. It's a cute synonym for brotherhood. There's no need to get worked up over this term. (Edit to add: Bromance isn't BL.)
Romance: Doesn't necessarily mean love. It can be a sentimental feeling, an idealized view of the world.
This drama is about brotherhood and team risking their lives to protect the people. These characters are real, they have families, they eat hearty meals together, they celebrate together, they tease each other, and they care for each other.
The cental story is Zheng Bei bringing southern Gu Yi Ran to the north to help them solve a case. He probably thought the "annoying" guy would only be here a couple of weeks and go back but didn't expect him to save his family, become his closest confidant, and to shield him from the rain. Zheng Bei is a pillar, but he doesn't know he is fatigued from this, Gu Yi Ran supports him and allows him not to be so hard on himself. Gu Yi Ran is brilliant, brave, resourceful, but he was orphaned, lonely and traumatized by drugs. Zheng Bei and the team gives him a family, shoulders his burdens, and protects him too. Isn't this a brotherhood? Isn't this romantic (an idealized view of world value)? The relationship that Zheng Bei and Gu Yi Ran developed is a bromance, a friendship that is stronger than some tropey idol love.
Jiang Xiao Hai and Zheng Bei are also a bromance but different than ZB and GYR. I won't spoil here.
All 3 main actors are performing extremely well! Huang Jing Yu is strong and stable. Zhang Yu is dark and mysterious. Wang Ziqi is cute and righteous. It's wonderful watching them interact. Add in the humor, action, suspense and great supporting characters, this drama shouldn't be missed.
Wang Ziqi is 186 cm. When he stands next to Huang Jing Yu they look almost the same height. He doesn't look tall in other dramas because his co-actors are all very tall.
yes ikr i was taken aback for a sec but I got to know on mdl that he never uses his og voice in his dramas. idk…
He has 3 dramas so far with his real voice and probably more in the future. The 3 so far are Black and White Password, Bright Eyes in the Dark, and Winter and Lion.
Lots of fun, full of excitement, heart-warming moments and humor. Acting was fantastic. Each character is multi-dimensional and engaging. Wang Ziqi presents a different side of himself every time. The veterans are powerful and Zhao Xun mesmerizing. Even a small role like Tang Xiao Tian's is memorable. The romance makes you crave for more and is sweetly satisfying.
Yes, there are 3 pairs. Chu Yi Han and Na Na (Romeo and Julie), Xiao Fei & Yiyi (wild couple on the bad side), Cheng Fan & Dr Mu (mature couple finding 2nd love and companionship). Also, 2 fun bromances. Chu Yi Han and Yu Da Luo and CYH with Sha Xiao Fei.
It's pretty sweet that she's trying to protect him.
Yes, very resilient. I like both ladies a lot. Yiyi also fought for Sha Xiao Fei. For an action drama, the very few romance scenes establish a stronger connection than a lot of more romance focused dramas. Perhaps, I am experiencing my own Suspension Bridge Effect? LOL. It was quite clever of the drama to call that out.
There's little doubt that the plotting is the highlight of the show -- the competing agendas, the double-crossing,…
I was surprised by the latest reveals in Episode 16. I wish Tencent let this one ferment a bit and not drop all episodes tomorrow. It deserves time to build up.
The CP is looking really good in the last episodes (11&12). There's a bond already. If you watched their previous drama, The Imperial Coroner, the feeling somehow carries over and intensifies from there. Exciting ending.
A lot of fun so far. Action scenes and humor. Wang Zi Qi is so versatile. Not only different from his other dramas but within this one he has to play 2 faces by being undercover.
