I wish I have Forever Love when I was younger, like when I was in high school because I find the story has enough realistic approaches in dating, married and working. He isn't an overnight CEO and she isn't someone he just meet when they were older. It's like a love story that at one point magical and in another point of view is realistic. It's just beautiful and I love the way their story unravel.

Thanks for your comment. It's interesting that you say K Dramas probably have a higher average score for you than…
Your post makes me consider my watching habit. I feel that Jdrama just more memorable but they also high risk in being really good or really bad while Kdrama is in the middle ground.
Kdrama has good production, safe storyline, strong start but weak ending. Jdrama most often has weak start but at the end, you end up getting why this story is special.

I remember starting Gibo to Musume no Blues on a whim and completely love it but I can't picture if Kdrama can work with this subject this way. It has jarring transition in the 2nd half but it's close to my heart and you just wish them the best.

Kdrama technically is better, they feel more structured technically but less in the heart punching moment. Jdrama most often wins you by the sincerity in the most absurd way that left a big impression in your memory.
It's funny to say this because I remember Kdrama before 2014-2015 (mostly) also has this feeling even when they are less structured.

Some shows really don't deserve to be on here. Especially the ones released a few years ago and were unique for…
Yeah, at that time, their approach is new and they deliver more lighthearted type of drama when it isn't as popular as it is no.

I don't really have a detailed analysis of this topic. I have watched Kdrama since around the start of Dae Jang Geum and I still watch Kdrama but I did feel like I get bored. I do want to know what changes but I can't pinpoint it. I also watch Jdrama since Gokusen era, probably long before and I still enjoy Jdrama the same, it feels like I still get it. I find Jdrama tackles their main story to the core and isn't afraid of being "controversial". With Cdrama, hmm, I think I used to watch the movie before the drama but I love that they still have faith and popularised historical drama, also they still have the entertaining factor, it can go stupid but idk it's just enjoyable. With JDrama and Cdrama (historical mainly), they can have a sad ending but KDrama is more on the happy ending which is their own charm.
All in all, I just know that I find myself going to find and save Jdrama and Cdrama (historical) on a hard disk or blue-ray or DVD way more than Kdrama. I don't know how to elaborate on why that happens. Of all dramas that I watched, my favorite high-rated drama is mostly Jdrama or Cdrama even when I know, on average - if I score all of them - Kdrama mostly wins by the average number.
There are lots of duds in JDrama and Cdrama too but they are also on the very top.

I like both episode, the 1st is definitely a lot but I feel like it the standard saeguk setup so I just adjusted with the new mythology. The 2nd one goes right into the plot and I have to say that Kim Yoo Jung manages to make me tear up on scenes that I know purposely made to be sad. It's the things that I see it coming but it still gets to me. I also like that both characters has established their dream and their identity before meeting each other as the adults. The CGI is so CG, lackluster but I still enjoy the story. It doesn't really take away the experience because the painting is still gorgeous.

Title Unforgettable Love Spoiler
I might rate this drama higher than 6star IF the FL(character) have a more brain🥱Seriously...she's a "Psychologist"…
It's way better narratively if she is like a caretaker in a kindergarten or intern at kid's hospital but her actual working field is different, she can still be the gf and help the ex. She just happen to be there, choose to help the screaming kid again and it's fate that reunite them again.

Rather than double standard, in my opinion, it about how the drama deliver and execute its premise. Many supposedly…
Kdrama when they have flaws, they stick out and I think Kdrama makes too much premise without being able to execute it or ending it, many Kdrama is good at the beginning but gradually lost it.
On the same topic, Touch Your Heart. Terius behind me and suspicious partner is 8,3 rate in MDL, that's 0.1 difference,
what's makes it above the league?

What I am saying is the audience's satisfaction with the premise, the execution, and the result makes more comfort drama gets a high rating. Drama like Suspicious Partner, and Terrius Behind me has a mismatch style when they mix romcom and thriller/murder mystery. That's not a surprise that people find it disjointed because the audience of both dramas doesn't usually cross over.

I think it deserves at least 8.2 because it delivers the premise rather than the audience being a double standard. Originally, the audience is not even the same. Fan of slice of life drama will rate the style higher when the pace is comfortable and not into fast pace drama so I get the rating. Just because the drama has a more complex theme, doesn't mean it automatically gets a higher rating than a fluffy drama of different genres, it's about the execution. They don't fight in the same place.

I think accountability plays a big part because when the drama ends, the main male villain usually died or is currently in jail so we can't really say they haven't paid for their crime and criticizing them feels redundant, at least they aren't roaming around. On the other hand, the female villain usually gets to move abroad or starts a new life that is completely unaffected by their previous deeds so people instinctively think they are let go too easily and feel that criticizing them is still a fair game.

Goodness it always surprises me... the way we have such double standards when it comes to cdramas or kdramas.…
Rather than double standard, in my opinion, it about how the drama deliver and execute its premise. Many supposedly "mature" drama can have silly logic and the character decision is often convenient to solve the super hard problem rather than because of the deduction. The main lead also get lucky with the decision that comes out of nowhere or bad guy that become unhinged at the end .
Drama that present itself as the easy going , fluffy and sugar based will be judged by that category too, which is why you also have harsh critics in teens drama that isn't cute and fresh .
It also because of the rating, many Cdrama with romance is PG13 and Mature Kdrama is at least 15+ and even 18+ when its quite violence.

When the drama that require thinking makes the viewer confuse because the presentation and the logic flawed, they will not get the good reception. It's the same as the drama to escape reality and fluffy but it makes you frustrated. That also how Makjang and over the top drama get high rating, because it deliver its premise despite how ridiculous it comes on screen.

I really thought Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo (Love Lasts Forever) was going to be the best Japanese Drama of…
I like that everyone is actually nice, they just see things differently and I love how it felt so ideal yet not too cliché, the main lead story also so nice, she is young but she experience setback on stuff she really likes and she just wonderful to root for.

I recommend Joy of Life. The main character Fan Xian is intelligent but not really cunning... He's instead shameless…
Fan Xian is like a younger Mei Changsu had he seen the palace politic and didn't go to war. idk if this insensitive to say but the free PTSD Mei Changsu feels like Fan Xan.

Title Nirvana in Fire Spoiler
Episode 1 was boring, uninteresting and forgetful. I don’t get why people are jumping 10 feet in the air either.…
For short summary of ep 1, Lang Ya Hall is an information capital when they have secrets service intelligent and will sell it for the price they want. it's like if CIA is a privately owned business
The princes from the Liang Kingdom wants to secure the throne so they came to Lang ya hall to ask for information/guidance. The currents crown prince is an old customer of the Lang Ya Hall and what lang ya hall gives this time isn't strategy or elaborate plot but the name of the person who will visit the capital of the Liang Kingdom.
It's fight for the throne story.

Episode 1 was boring, uninteresting and forgetful. I don’t get why people are jumping 10 feet in the air either.…
Ep 1 in the 1st watch is the least interesting because they talk about stuff you have no idea about, they show the setting and characters you don't know why you should care and what is even happening in the scene, why they even fighting and who are them? That also my 1st reaction.
Having said that, I watch episode 1 right when the drama ended because I finally understand the dialogue and how they set it up. The drama jump right into the story as if you read the books introduction, as if you know what lang ya hall is about , everyone will be confused so when the drama fills up the detail, you can understand ep 1 a lot better.

Just thought I'd share a snippet of my recent conversation with a friend over NIF. Apologies for the length, please…
I think the theme of accepting your past mistake also resonate to a lot of people. It's story that is so satisfying to watch because you see how the story get reconstructed from the lie that has been build to cover it up. The drama maybe fictional with all the justice that get right back but it's so hopeful, it makes you feel happy and good despite the tragedy.

I do like historical dramas - as long as they have a healthy level of angst - but for some reason I can't really…
I love both but lately I think Korean Drama Saeguk play it safe most of the times. When I think about Saeguk that I love like Dae Jang Geum or Queen Seon Deok, there is a level of uncertainty despite how skillful the protagonist in the drama. It's the same feeling with Nirvana in Fire, Joy of Life and many Chinese costume drama. You want to know that the main characters are great and hope they will get a good ending but you also want them to have a good antagonist that make you doubt the happy ending. In Saeguk, they mostly have a happy ending when the protagonist get all they want, love, power and wealth and the journey is pretty safe, the stake is lower and the machination of how evil they want the antagonist to behave is just in the face value. They also mostly have a perfect protagonist that is idealistic and good and even if Chinese drama has their own problem, they can go to the extreme for their protagonist. There is just a lot more variety.
