So glad u said that cuz I was about to skip over this good thing I checked the comments ig... Also would u recommend…
It's not the best light historical cdrama you could watch, but I did find it enjoyable. There are moments where the FL was mildly annoying at the beginning for her stupidity and carefree attitude, I quickly got over it. Other than that, the chemistry is there and I really do love their love story! Although there technically is a love triangle, it's very clear the FL and ML don't and will never have feelings for the annoying interlopers aka the second leads. My only qualm with this drama is that the FL never clearly sets boundaries with the SML as soon as she knew that he caught feelings for her. Personally, I found the Romance of Tiger and Rose more enjoyable than this drama, but this is still a good pick!
I dislike the cover change. I don't think it represents the drama very well. If I saw this drama now, I'd have immediately skipped over because I would have assumed that it was a love triangle when in fact, the love traingle has very little to do with the overarching plot.
This drama would've been good if it didn't have any of the romance and just focused on the two brothers and this is coming for someone whose entire watch list consists of 99.999 something% romance dramas/movies.
I loved Lee Yeon, I loved Lee Rang, I loved all the side characters except Nam Ji Ah and the romance plot. She's literally the epitome of a typical mary sue character. Knows everything about anything, is brutally honest, and courageous to a fault. I mean what kind of person would randomly enter situations that scream danger knowing that she has no skills to defend herself. smh I just want to knock some sense in her.
Trigger Warning** There is a ton of noble idiocy in this drama
indeed there are many sides to the same strong fl box, I think in pt1 I talked more on the "normal" realistic…
Ooh Yes, I remember that article. Loved it! I saw the comments for when I was beautiful... needless to say I will not be watching it in the near future ಠ_ಠ
I agree, but I also have to add on. Although I really love female characters who have a badass attitude and the clothing to boot, are intelligent, don't take shit from anyone, are confident, or have the fighting skills of a black belt holder, my favorite strong female characters are those who aren't necessarily strong by the standard definition. Someone who pushes forward despite facing trouble after trouble, being courageous in the face of injustice, holding onto to your values despite the chaos around you. Those are my favorite female character.
The reason I love them so much is that they represent women like me. The average person who has no fancy fighting skills or is super intelligent. For example in Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People. The female lead was not intelligent or physically strong by any means. However, I really admired her perseverance and strength in holding house while the ML was fighting for justice. Or when that *moment happened* and her world turned gray, she still pushed herself to fight for those who were lost.
I haven't watched When I was beautiful, but your description of Stephanie Lee has convinced me
The musical aspect was completely pointless. I didn't particularly like the singing and it didn't add anything to the original plot. All it did was take up screen time. Instead, I would've love to have seen more of Kabakura and Hanako.
I loved this show, but I have to admit that it did have problems that chafed against my morals. That scene where Thien got Muey drunk made my stomach turn. The entire time I was wishing they wouldn't have sex and that Thien would eventually realize what he is doing is wrong. Having watched quite a few lakorns, I'm already familiar with lakorns throwing in rape or sexual assault as a plot pusher or just to add drama, but the ones I watch it's usually the villain doing the act, or if it is the ML, he eventually realizes his wrongdoing and stops before anything irreversible happens.
When Muey finally leaves Thien, I was happy, but also kinda disappointed it took Muey running away to make that stubborn man finally get off of his butt and do the right thing. One other thing I disliked, was how the writers tried to pull off the "loved you all along" plot twist.
Like NO.
No, you didn't. You don't treat someone you love like how he did. Also, if you really like someone, should you have at least a modicum of interest in their life. To Thien, Muey didn't even exist as a functional human being until he had to marry her.
Great article btw! Lakorns do have their problems, but it's hard not to love the crazy shenanigans and drama that make them so addicting to watch.
bye im so late u probably watched this by now but yea
lol I wish I could take credit for what you said, but I do this all the time. I just comment my deal breaker questions on dramas I'm interested in and then forget about it until I get a notification that someone replied back.
But yess, I researched it a little more and I probably am going to watch it later for mark and kim. I loved there other dramas, so I'm willing to watch garbage plots only because of those two.
I feel you. I love C-dramas, but sometimes the over-the-top cutesy fl can get a tad annoying which overshadows…
I'm on episode 7 right now and you are so right. The female lead is cute without being unbearably frustrating or sickeningly sweet. I love the trend in chinese dramas this year of healthy relationships and couples that have respect for one another despite differences.
Ok, Tsubaki's mom redeemed herself in the end. But who I really hate in this drama was Tsubaki's "dad" and Sakura's mom. Yes, I get that you were forced to marry someone you don't love, but how shameless can you be to have your mistress and secret child live right under your wife's nose.
