Maybe she will find out her mom never meant to leave her behind? But how is that letter being written? What time period?

if you keep watching, they investigate into it a lot more. As of now, the Dad in episode 1, sent a letter to 1991 for Ye Haitang, the love letter. It says he wanted to save her, and the times they spent together were the best times of his life. Then he disappeared, which is the mystery in 2026. At the same time in 1991, FL wrote a suicide letter, and it got sent to 2026, and is found by the ML's daughter. It seems the time is running consecutively from there on.

Its surely presumed that the old Dad is Xun, and 1991 Xun doesn't know it yet, why he would write that to her. And its a fun watch to see how they develop, and what happens.

just SFL is very unfleshed out. Badly written. She never comes clean, never confesses to her wrongdoing. Never redeems herself, now doesnt even remember. Never deserved his love, and he loves her for no damn reason.
Compare to the main CP, they have all the reasons in the world to be in love. So second couple is definitely pale in comparison.
