For me, stakes is what is missing. They make the tournament sound crazy important (enough to banish a Crown Prince for losing) and no background on why and show some suffering of the people. Then the FL and ML move in together basically, but nothing big happens except fluff. It's hard for us to feel any tension when there is nothing at stake.

i love her personality and the way she approaches her roles. She really do bring life to a character, and importantly, make them likeable. I think that is the charm of Wan Peng

There's a theory out there about the timelines, with it being parallel worlds in different timelines rather than time travel, and the linking factor are the mailboxes. So you get original 2026 with OG 1991 (mailbox #3), and then new 1991 with the letters (mailbox #2), then new 2025 (the year Yu Nian wakes up from her "dream"), and then "unknown year" with Shen Cheng (mailbox #4). It's presumed that SC remembers too since he received the last letter on that mailbox.

2026 Xun wrote a letter to YHT with his regrets, based on all the events in ep 8, the original timeline. The Cat and the magic mailbox, is what decides to change their fate, by delivering that letter to 1991 Ye Hai Tang, thus giving them a chance to change their future.
