Gillian Chung is playing the character that is Mu Sheng's mom. So the drama is trying to fool us into thinking they're side characters happening in real time like the water demons, but should be a story from before he is born. I feel like they're going to mindblow us later with a reveal, which is why I think it's better we are confused now.

They are the actors Xu Haiqiao and Gillian Chung!! We don't know who they are yet...I think its a past couple.
