Why do the Chinese government dislike rebirth dramas when we all know they are nonsense anyway>
I think it has something to do with the idea you can't change history. Thats why Harem dramas (the ones about king/concubines in the palace) are banned, because it's "unreal" and not true to history.
Can you tell me how was the fl reborn in the novel? I'm curious what changes they made to pass the censorship
In the novel, she got killed by husband&princess, and her soul transmigrates to Jiang Li's body (who drowned herself over losing her engagement while at the nunnery and "died").
The drama does it more thrilling in using the Nunnery mistress crimes, and ML showing up there to arrest her away. In the book she just exposes the affair, and then Mrs Liu tells Jiang family to get her back.
I actually don't like what they did to the male lead. They did Wang Xing Yue dirty. It was as if he wasn't even…
feel the same, its late night here too. Its actually 2am by the time I watched 3 eps!! I'm only stopping because I'm unwilling to pay for the other 2 eps, but trust me its hard. I'm loving this drama, and it feels good because I was in a slump since The Legend of Shen Li.
So I read the book, and while there are changes (the obvious one being censorship on rebirth), it actually follows the novel quite well. The changes are actually more thrilling and helps to elevate the plot, in fact.
Watched the first 2 episodes and they were quite impressive! The drama does feel like a movie. đExcept for…
Ah, I think its a problem with the subs, I noticed Youku doesn't have great subs. There is no anti-religion agenda. The place is a nunnery, so it was more along the lines of restrictions relating to indecency/virtue.

Oh I didn't mean you; I meant me lol. I usually go into dramas without much expectations, because I am so quick to drop anything I don't like. I don't even watch everything of any actors/actresses I like! I understand if you went in for an actor, it must've been disappointing. I thought WXY did good in that drama though; he is a good actor and emotes really well with his eyes. I look forward to him in The Double

Thats okay, I get your point. I don't like to nitpick to much, especially since I actually did not notice about the MLs since I didn't know any of the actors at the time. The story was just good and drama was well done IMO, so I was happy to have found it.

I didn't read the original novel, so I'm not sure if the story was drastically changed. I thought they gave equal screen time to each of the males, keeping it somewhat ambiguous who she likes/end up with, while still keeping the focus on FL's story and character development. Since the ending is what it is, I thought it made more sense to have less focus on the MLs since y'know, how would she know?
One of the directors and the screen writer also did the drama Scent of Time. I really liked Scent of Time; it was well paced, filmed and edited well, characters and emotions made sense, and the dialogue very impactful and deep. I've got more hope now!
I didnât read this novel, but read that this author tends to write dark and intense plot and character.
I read most of author QSCK, and I think her strongest points are the political/revenge parts. I know Yu Zheng and c-censorship usually tones down a drama, so I had little hope until I saw the trailer. Seeing the theme, visuals, and how bloody WXY looks fighting, I am all-in again!
Since all these are banned, a lot of xianxia got produced, there was a huuuuge rise since like 2019-2020 to xianxia/fantasy genre.
