the story is very clear. They have been explaining many thing by episode 2. I guess you missed all.
The Nanshan hunters are explained in the very beginning. 1000 years ago, meteor fell on land and monster beasts were formed called Earth Fiends. A group of hunters from 3 clans of specialty (Blade, Whip, Hound) formed to hunt these fiends. As fiends died off over time, the need to fight is lessened but they are always trained and ready, meeting every 4 years. It's so rare now the latest generation has never seen an Earth Fiend. But now the team has caught one, and surprisingly it is "Human" shaped fiend rather than beast. The WHY will be explained, no one know right now.
FL is just the latest generation of Blade hunter, taking over after her mother died.
ML seems to be raised by creepy Aunt Lin since childhood, with his sister. They're both mostly protected from the evil secrets, but as grown up adults now, they want to find out what's going on. Has not been explained who they are yet, but likely created human fiends.
the Dixiao (whistle whip) is seemingly a new invention by the Hunters that is very effective because the fiends are weak to piercing sounds.
I personally thought the actual realization of love happened at end of episode 12, when he's choosing to die, and she still doesn't want to leave him, kill him, and actually is willing to die with him. Before that, he liked her mind, her personality, and felt safe/relaxed around her, cherished her as one of the closest person around him.
For her it started from realizing he might like her, to actually confirming he loves her (the soul manor stuff she learned in class), and she finally chose to reciprocate the love (making the first moves now to kiss him, miss him, etc).
I get seoul is a small city but come on how these characters keep on meeting eachother like i dont even meet people…
a world is so small the two men she dates in her life have the same name, one is even childhood crush met once but somehow both cannot forget; everyone and their aunts lives in the same neighborhood street, go to the same events, work on the same projects at work, go to the same photo studio, same hospital, same doctor, jog the same routes...
