From what I gathered, he wasn't actually in a coma for 10 years. He had that car accident as a student that hurt his leg and stopped him from playing tennis, but he lived his life and became a teacher after that. This current memory loss is from a second accident, which is why he wakes up thinking he's still a teenager when he’s already an adult (at least that's what I understood)
