Manual to Greatness used as toilet paper #LameWriting (though everything else worked perfectly)

Yet again, another Korean writer who did not fail to disappoint me with painfully weak writing. The overall sketch of the story was so captivating that it could have been an easy 10/10 banger. Instead, like many promising plots before it, this one got sacrificed to the writers’ strange obsession with a two-cents-worth stalker who somehow gets treated like a national-level threat yet arrested after 10 attempts.Honestly, it was tiring to watch the characters waste hours chasing this bargain-bin villain as if he were some multiverse mastermind.
And then comes the female lead. Possibly one of the most clueless heroines to grace the screen. She keeps walking straight into this stalker again and again. At some point you start wondering whether she secretly enjoys these encounters. If she is that fascinated with the stalker, maybe the writers should have just paired them together and saved everyone the trouble. And What makes it more frustrating is that she literally possesses a manual to greatness 'the-holy-book-of-spells' , yet.. still.. ends up getting slapped around by the vamp cause apparantly love and beauty spells are useless in this situation. She didn't use a single useful spell out that book .. oh sorry she did i think the one that saved the ML ..but no he had to die to over come his curse so that one attempt also goes to bin.
Thank goodness she was never entrusted with something like a death note. She might have turned it into a gratitude journal and ll writing daily affirmations for the villain. Damn it !
Now, credit where it is due. The cast was genuinely one of the best parts of this drama. Rowoon and Bo-ah did a solid job, and their chemistry carried many scenes that the script itself struggled to support. Even with an annoying role, Bo-ah’s charm managed to shine through. The side cast also added depth and personality, making the world feel more alive than the plot deserved. So, Majority stars in my rating goes to this lovely effort put together by the great cast of this drama.

The background music and OST were absolute bangers. The kind that linger in your head long after the episode ends.
The ending was satisfying as well. Not perfect, but decent enough to close the curtain without throwing tomatoes at the screen.
So yes, it was a good drama…
if you can simply fast-forward through the endless “catch-me-if-you-can” circus starring the stalker. This one is absolutely a must-watch for you.

Amazing to absurd

Started off great, with the Cupid NPC entering the detective storyline as a coroner and finding herself in the chaos of a grand marshal's murder case. Soon, the ML, the detective NPC of the game, comes to her aid, and together they begin assembling the pieces of the puzzle to solve the mystery.
The plot became incoherent halfway through, as it turned less about using brains and more about guesswork. The FL was absolutely useless as far as the investigation was concerned, and the ML was mediocre at best. In my opinion, the crime investigation aspect wasn't written properly. The writer dragged everyone, from the marshal's friends to his adoptive son, his concubine, her maid, his son's fiancée, the fiancée's maid, and even his tailor, into the mess, with no proper elimination of suspects.
In fact, in the last few episodes, when the adopted daughter's mask came off, the segment involving the general's lackey being on the culprit's side and then later switching back to the general's side was pure nonsense. It felt very unsophisticated, especially for the climax of an investigation plot.
Li Ge yang was okay-ish as the ML but snow kong could have used some acting classes before the final shoot ..or may be she used the entire drama as acting practice class, RN in 2026 when I am watching this show she did a great job in Pursuits of jade .. clearly these mini drama helped her polish her skills.
In the end , I watched the drama, but I am not feeling very proud of my decision.

my Little bro is picky, it's dead to anyone but her ~ Xu Si'An

A.K.A. back to you, my violet Love ... i highly recommend this drama to all short rom-com drama fans .. the story is clean, the characters are loveable and the ending is satisfactory.
so the plot tells tale of couple that broke up due to some special circumstances and misunderstanding the girl had about the boy.. she dumps him and back away without proper explanation. four year later he is back for revenge .. like not 'revenge' revenge but 'i-will-follow-you-until-you-take-me-back 'revenge. So, he joins her joins company as CEO, promoting her as his personal assistant and start being pain in her a$$. As the time pass the feeling reignite and they rekindle their love after various trials. The best thing about this story was instead of a proper break-up it seemed like they were into a 4-years long couple fight; cause even after 4 years apart , she kept dreaming of him; he kept her, the sole heir of his heritance all this time. apart from this for a mini drama format the plot offers many shades of emotion , there is psychological pain, regrets, longing, fear of pursuing what heart desires, trauma, blind love, screwed parent-child relation, and a lot more.
chemistry between Lin Feng Song and tan yanyan was amazing. Lin Feng Song indeed surprised me .. he was so adorable .. a walking green flag ... tan yanyan added her own charm to the recipe.
~Definitely a must-watch.

Sweeeeeeettttt

Story of a girl who paints portraits for the government and private clients, forced to swap her face with the prime minister's daughter to marry the general in her place. The plot is spot on .. zero BS .. story moves with a consistent pace unfurling every secret one after another without dragging too much. Ying ke and cheng lei did a good job ..their chemistry was sweet ... Actually it's Ying ke who would look cute irrespective of what role she plays whereas cheng lei is known to sport his gentleman's persona the best... Their pairing gave a real couple-like vibe .... nothing too steamy or flashy just organic romance between husband and wife anchoring you emotionally and deeply. Side cast added their fair share to the story as well.
The ending was satisfactory with a side twist nobody asked for, but overall the drama is very much enjoyable.

Watching cheng lei in such low production dramas tells you a lot about his journey as an artist... I am glad he is doing good budget and full length series as ML now.

Bailu and dylan Wang could've created history together , but ....

This drama already has so countless reviews posted by viewers .. so I don't know if I can add anything groundbreaking, So instead of a formal review I will pour my personal thoughts about the cast , characters and plot .. if we have something in common then good otherwise we aren't missing out on anything anyway.

Honestly, seeing Bai Lu and Dylan Wang together felt like dream casting for many fans, including me And acting wise, they delivered better than my expectations... Their chemistry was good, and visually they fit the roles perfectly. but ... A drama can't really survive without a good story line (actually calling it a storyline is a sin) .. if leads are the face of a drama body ..the storyline is its backbone Unfortunately, the backbone here was painfully weak.
in fact I am not convinced it was written by a mature person. It felt almost like an eight grader early teenager writing her romantic fantasies later being polished and turned into a script.
The corporate background especially made little sense.. like the drama has a modern corporate romance but the way this aspect is exploited to the point of ridiculing viewers' intellect was so audacious... I mean Five women from a finance magazine somehow end up paired with five men from a single venture capital company. The odds were so ridiculous it felt like the rest of the professional world vanished in an apocalypse and only these ten people survived. Even after forcing this setup, the romance still lacked depth.

The business side was equally unconvincing. There was barely any understanding of corporate etiquette or how the finance world actually works. Endless meetings filled with repetitive deal talk and exaggerated praise were apparently meant to represent venture capital work. It felt more like a surface-level imitation of the corporate world rather than a believable setting.

I hoped the characters might redeem the story, but sadly that wasn’t the case. The FL, who was initially introduced as smart and career-focused, ends up throwing away her dignity just to get revenge on a useless ex. The ML constantly fails to communicate clearly and drags a misunderstanding for far too long. A best friend who keeps screwing the ML's best friend but asks the FL to deceive the ML with her fake act of love destroying her love life multiple times on multiple occasions , lastly portrayed as a very good and supporting friend...you kid me not!!

In the end, the cast was fantastic, but the characters they were given were so weak and inconsistent that it took away the very charm of it. And when the writing collapses like that, even the best actors cannot completely save the drama. 🎭

Surprisingly inspiring

Story of a girl who stood up alone and slapped hierarchy and patriarchy right across the face (metaphorically… but I wish literally).

Le Yao is a village girl who gets humiliated, betrayed, and ultimately killed by her “best friend”/maid and crooked in-laws. She’s reborn a month before her death (yup, traitor bestie respawns too cause the universe said let’s run it back). With a second chance in hand, she is willing to level up with strategies not tears.

There are tons of rebirth-revenge plots out there, but I only appreciate the ones where the FL actually uses her brain. I don’t want those stories where the lead voluntarily walks into 30 slaps, 12 torture sessions, 5 public humiliations, and sacrifices entire army “for the sake of revenge.” ..Huh! So inefficient..Boring!

This FL?? She is smart.. top tier strategist ..she got punished only one time (hurt her fingers) and lost a lady member of her team but at the expense of this her comeback was an absolute blockbuster. Her schemes planning and her unwavering focus on her goal .... Simple wow ... I loved how the ML started taking dictation from her from a very early stage totally succumbing to her intelligence and wisdom ... And this is the reason why she wasn't just loved but respected and worshiped by this sigma man. Nice chemistry.

Reading the reviews here I was a bit sceptical but This drama got almost 900 thousand views in a single month on you tube( compilation video) ... I guess figure speak louder than words but even the comments are positive.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic, I won’t lie but it’s fine. I wasn’t planning on giving it a full 10/10 anyway.

His unnecessary secrets became her insecurities

This is bit of a psychological review here… or maybe just my emotional rambling session instead of a proper review best to be read after you watch the drama ~~~ I think the FL’s reaction to the ML hiding his identity was completely justified. I mean, who wouldn’t feel betrayed if you fall for someone who can’t even be bothered to tell you the basics about himself? And fine, he was scared of scaring her at first — but bro had so many chances to come clean.

Honestly, more money or security doesn’t automatically mean more trust value . He probably thought she’d jump with joy after finding out he wasn’t some average Joe (Fu in this case) but the heir of the FUJI empire. Nope, sweetheart. Real life isn’t a fairytale where you feel happy getting the golden axe for asking for the regular one. Sometimes you just feel played, manipulated, and fooled by someone who might be in love with you but treats your intelligence and feelings like dump shit....

let’s talk about that deluxe green tea girl living in his house, his Olympic-level skill of avoiding serious conversations, and his full-time job of hiding things. Yeah… my guy harvested exactly what he planted. But yes, I’ll blame the FL too. She fell in love and gave herself away way too fast. She’s also a hypocrite — using his power to solve her problems while never trying hard enough to truly know him.

The divorce though? Perfect. A necessary slap of reality for him to and a mirror moment for her.

Overall, the plot is decent .. fluffy romance with a side serving of overcooked family politics. Jian Qi was brilliant as always; this man really nails these doting husband roles.. And Zuo Yi’s charm just brought more life into the drama.

Worth a one-time watch.

Full-on enjoyment

If you’re looking for something crazy that makes zero logical sense but is pure entertainment, give this one a try. Classic body-swap plot ... he fixes her messy life, and she fixes his broken family. She (in his body) makes his fiancée fall for her, becomes a caring big brother to his sister, and honestly… a kind-hearted woman living inside a tall, hot man’s body? That’s straight-up fantasy fuel.

The cast did a great job. The leads especially sold this madness really well. I just wish we had cleaner versions of this drama available. The background music was so loud even in the middle of emotional scenes. Also some scenes were clearly chopped out, which ruined the flow a bit.

But overall?Messy plot. Unreal logic. 100% fun.
Well, sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

Neither plot not acting delivered in good potential

The plot follows a young woman (FL) who agrees to marry an army commander (ML) in exchange for the protection her family desperately needs during the chaotic pre-republic era. Their marriage begins with zero expectations ... the commander already has two concubines, courtesy of his mother who has a hobby of collecting concubines for her son. To make things worse, the ML holds a grudge against the FL’s father, so he spends the early episodes throwing petty accusations at her. Nonetheless he succumbs pretty quickly and falls in love with her. Hence begin their trials as a couple...

Honestly, the plot had a lot more potential, than what reflected on the screen, but the execution just didn’t deliver.

The cast didn’t help either. This is the first time I genuinely felt disappointed with Jian Qi. His artificial tears especially in scenes that didn’t even need crying, were painfully awkward. But he still shines through as the FL opposite to him was straight up horrible ...Yes, she is cute, but acting-wise… babe, even babies in diaper commercials show more emotion. She can speak straight dialogue, but the moment she needs real expressions, everything collapses. Her crying scenes 👎 , and her action scenes ....scream 'cringe'(just look at the way she holds a gun) ...

I honestly can't recommend this drama to anyone cause it's not worthwhile.

Iconic acting

What a performance… what a brilliant performance by He Jianqi. My god, babe, I’m still crying... and you know I don’t cry easily. They say an actress proves her talent in ruthless scenes, but an actor becomes a legend when he nails the emotional moments… especially the loss-of-beloved scene. Only a few men can pull it off like Luo Yunxi in TTEOTM, and now He Jianqi just joined that league.

As for the plot? Ahh… let’s call it what it is — mediocre.
FL is exhausted from seven years of a failing marriage.ML blames her for his ex-lover’s death.
Broken and defeated, she attempts suicide.
She disappears… and then the ML finally realises what she meant to him. That’s literally the story.

But Jianqi? He carried this entire drama like a one-man army. The FL did well, though her character barely had anything to do. The actress playing the vamp… honestly, she needs a full acting workshop. Imagine being in a cast with such strong leads and delivering that performance... painful.

Still, the drama hits. Best enjoyed with a bowl of noodles and a cold can of Coke.

A circus of misplaced emotions

I don’t know what I was expecting from this drama, but it definitely wasn’t this circus. The plot had potential, like most pre-Republican stories, but again the writer forgot how to actually use it. The female lead is on a revenge mission, but her idea of revenge is pulling out a gun 99 times and only shooting once. The rest of the time she’s busy kissing the ML and smudging her cheap red lipstick all over his face 🤡. No investigation, no planning, no brains. Just 💋

And somehow, she also wants to save society. Like girl, you can’t even save your own storyline.

The ML was all action, no delivery. Though I’ll give him some credit for doing our useless FL's share of investigation on her behalf. His reaction after killing his brother was just weird fake guilt, especially when both leads were hooking behind his back.

The SML wasn’t some tragic hero either. He claimed he loved her and dreamed of marrying her, but goes missing whenever his presence needed. Both times the FL was humiliated by that leacher man sent by his own father to rape her, this So called lover boy was nowhere to be found. Instead He followed his traitor father like a loyal puppy, ignored her pain and loss altogether. In fact He didn’t even try to hold his father accountable for conspiring against the nation. And the one time he “thought of her,” his brilliant plan was… running away. Not standing with her to face the odds Just running. Peak spineless energy.

So no, I didn’t feel bad for him at all. A man without backbone deserves the fall he gets.

Still, I liked that the story gave him some dignity in the end. The FL and ML went their separate ways, and she stayed engaged to the SML… or at least that’s how I interpreted her staring at the ring like it was a life decision instead of a piece of metal.

If the writer deliberately wrote this nonsense to make people hate these characters then I will this was an extremely good attempt but the writer was expecting as to feel sympathetic with them .. then I am sorry my sympathy has it's own IQ ..i can't feel it for these characters clowns even if I want to.

Week plot weak characters weak chemistry

I’m convinced the police department doesn’t exist in Chinese short dramas. The FL rescues a child from an abusive father and instead of dialing one number or even threatening legal action, she goes full spiritual influencer mode whispering, “Karma will come for you.” Well, karma missed its train, because the parasite came back and kidnapped the kid again.

As if karma’s disappearance wasn’t tragic enough, this woman gets slapped around 5 to 7 times in a two-hour-fifteen-minute plot. She’s not even a female lead at this point, she’s a designated punching bag with dialogue privileges.

And the ML or whatever that is , wasn't better either I mean his unhinged fiancée slapping his wife and psychologically distressing his baby niece he just letting this mental woman slide with soft warnings every time ..the warnings which she treats like friendly suggestions and ignores right away..
Sure, let’s blame it on his “business obligations”. Billion-dollar deals, global meetings, blah blah. Meanwhile, a walking mental hazard is out here terrorizing his wife and traumatizing a child, and his grand solution is… a warning speech that too delivered in installations . Not security, not legal action, not medical help ....not even an advisory " stay away from this woman".

With such weak characters chemistry seems even bigger luxury ... And as you must have already predicted it was flat .. blank faces .. artificial tears ... sunkissed look and loads of forced forehead kisses ... Even their love making scene felt like a skincare commercial.

So if you have a low bar for everything you can definitely watch it but remember it wasn't recommended by me ...

Cute Chaos in Catastrophe

What a lovely plot. A zombie outbreak hits the city, and our FL ,the only real provider of her useless squad, gets betrayed and left outside as zombie snacks. Thankfully, the ML saves her… and he just happens to be the zombie king with a mutation gene of absolute supremacy (plus built-in antibodies). He is basically the leader of these zombies and they stay obedient to him.

Zombie apocalypse stories usually horrify me, so I avoid them, But this one has such a playful vibe. The FL is a full-time drama queen in the best way. Her extra-ness is hilarious, and she’s adorable to watch.

The ML is ridiculously handsome. I’ve seen him pop up in so many dramas. here he was so expressive through his facial gestures ..I mean for the fact that the character he played was zombie, who are almost mute or very less talkative he had to say so many things through his expressions..and honey his expressions are so beautiful.. I was literally watching him on repeat doing those quirky things with his blue-red eyes and brow ..
The chemistry between these two was outstanding.. he cant speak and she can't keep quiet ...perfect match made in heaven. Romance was more on cuter side. Side cast was also good. I think for medium budget production this drama passed the expectations by ten Folds.

Totally recommended. 🧟‍♀️🧟

Addictive despite the mess

From the very beginning, the conspiracy plot felt weak and underdeveloped. The execution of FL’s mother solely based on a child’s testimony just wasn’t convincing. For such a serious crime, the lack of proper investigation made the foundation of the story feel unstable.

Then came the revenge plan, which honestly felt like it was written under a rush. Of all possible ways to destroy a man, she decided to become his concubine and sleep with him. The same man who, as a child, accused her mother and got her killed. Like… girl, when your father was murdered, the culprit didn’t seduce him first. Mind taking some lessons.

Just when I thought the plot couldn’t tangle itself more, boom, they drop the “they’re siblings” bomb. Then minutes later, nope, not siblings. By this point my brain was twisted into origami as the narrative had already lost clarity, especially when it was revealed she belonged to the same family that once accused her mother. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

Jiulin was, as expected, absolutely brilliant.l, Just in the right amounts ..not overdoing anything . The FL was new to me, but I can’t deny she delivered. Their chemistry? ⚡ ⚡. Their romance?💋💋. The love scenes?🔥 🔥

Overall verdict: yes it is messy, logic seemed undersupplied, And yet… somehow… despite all this chaos, i just couldn't drop it.. you might not be able to do it as well ...This show challenges the masochist in you. I kept rolling my eyes on screen , questioning the writer’s life choices, and still binged till the end.

Logic Loss

From the very beginning, this drama showed zero quality in writing. The FL is a modern martial artist who suddenly enters the body of a girl (transmigration , of course!!) about to be killed by bandits. They take her to their disgusting old leader, and she kills him effortlessly. She even beats up the whole gang and becomes their boss ...... fine, I accepted that.

But what made absolutely no sense to me was what came after.

How can a woman who defeated ten armed men in a breathe, suddenly fail to handle the leader’s useless, brainless daughter? This bimbo creates mess after mess, yet the FL keeps forgiving her like she’s some saint with selective memory. It’s as if the writer forgot she’s a martial artist whenever the plot needed extra chaos.

By the end, this “strong” FL becomes a complete liability because of poor writing and zero logic.

Honestly, a classic example of limited creativity. Total disappointment.
