According to the actor who plays Yang Shao, on the day that ZSC was captured, Yang Shao was outside the city wall; however upon hearing the news, he immediately rode the horse heading back in order to save ZSC( as we see in episode 22 or 23) he kneeled down in front of ZSC, he wanted to save ZSC but ZSC rejected, told him to protect ShiYi on his behalf and gave his final words..
so there we go, they deleted that scene.

Also, Shiyi burned all those news of victories because those are birthday gifts ZSC gave them to her, and she even said she would use her life to protect them, so burning them means she decided to follow him in afterlife. That’s my thought .

I would love to see that also, but unfortunately it’s just our wishful thinking. The emperor would not allow any trace of ZSC remains

I normally avoid tragic or sad ending, but just because of this masterpiece, I broke my rules, the journey is worth it. It’s sad but at the same time, I feel it’s so beautiful in many ways. It is a combination of good directing, acting, editing, costumes, music, cinematography, and solid script. What else do you expect from a drama these days? Not many can achieve those high quality productions these days but One and Only is an exception. And plus, you get to see their sequel “Forever and Ever”. I neither care nor discuss drama on MDL but because of One and Only, I’m camping on One and Only post everyday. Yea, it is that good.

Cuifeng and Hong Xiao Yu are additional characters in One and Only, yea in Forever and Ever, Hong Xiao Yu is ShiYi best friend, so I think MBFB must did that in purpose. I don’t see Du Feng character in Forever and Ever casts so I’m not sure if they will keep his character in Forever and Ever.
