I need some spoilers! On episode 4 right now, but do Cui Xi and Bao Qin ever reconcile? If so, when? I don't think my blood pressure can take more of their fighting. And how does the ending go?
What's the meaning behind the pervert having a daughter? Or is it just a random thing?
It could be suggesting that trashy people like that pervert can have a seemingly normal life. Or its contrasting the perpetrator's fulfilled and happy life with the victim family's life of questioning and despair.
Can someone please spoil me about Xie Xiao? Does he ever get out of the picture? Please I've never met a more man-child irresponsible SOB stalker-like 2nd ml than him 😶
I don't think the eunuch is the mastermind, I think theres someone else behind the scenes, my guess is Jing Yi…
Yea the eunuch is definitely a smaller player in the big scheme of things. I just like how they didn't make a big deal of every antagonist's identity. I wasn't thinking Jing Yi's dad, but considering Jing Yi's recently fishy moves it's not an impossibility. Other possible suspects: Leng Yue's granddad, minister of war.
This is such a good quality mystery show so far. Fingers crossed it stays like this until the end.
>I like how they don't hesitate to show the eunuch dude as the big bad dude atm, unlike other shows who love showing a "mysterious mastermind behind a mask", who, if you had 2 fully formed brain cells, would lead you to conclude that it must be some character C who has "evil" vibes. The best part so far with the eunuch dude is that you're not sure about his part in the overarching mystery plot, or whether he's truly in control of all the bad things happening to the protags. Is he even the true antagonist? Other characters are aware that he's the one to look out for too.
>There is a certain riveting momentum to the story, so each mystery doesn't feel like a corpse-of-the-week show but connects each case with all these tiny hints that the audience can definitely piece together and speculate about WHILE foreshadowing at major future events. You think one thing's been solved, but 13 more questions pop up when they've been solved. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
>Each character is smart or dumb in their own way. It makes the characters very likable so far. There's no dumb emperor, but a reasonably intelligent dude chilling in a room filled with plastic mountains thinking about how to balance the political powers. The ML isn't an ass and treats the FL like an equal who has legit opinions. FL ain't street smart but she sure is book smart. Mutual healthy respect guys. 2nd ml and 2nd fl are also great side chars with strong personalities.
I sound like I'm raving about the show, which is true, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY need the 13th episode lol. Haven't been this excited about a show since I fossilized in my chair. (︶^︶)
I judged this by the cover and was expecting a run of the mill rom-com with a "unique" theme. It appears to have a sensible overarching storyline & has a good balance of serious and comedic (not slapstick - subtle humor!).
Gotta say I'm disappointed with the ending. They went with the safe route and did Bong Hwan so wrong smh. I hear the spin off is a better epilogue so ima head on over.
some kind of book that holds aĺl of kim clan's corruption
I believe its an accounting book. You need to know your financial situation so even if its corrupt to the core there will be a true ledger stashed away somewhere. Problem is, if it is found, its definite hard evidence against you so that's why the dad is hiding it.
I knew what I was getting into since this is a xianxia but I'm a stubborn idiot so I watched this until the end.…
A few things I appreciated was the flipping of the usual heaven vs demons cliche. I enjoyed the Rahu Ketu / Xuan Ji / God of War identity in its identity subtext. And to some extent BaiLing was an interesting villain but his "realization of his wrongs" seemed out of character and lacked impact. For someone who was extremely self-righteous, manipulative, and I swear displays aspects of narcissistic personality disorder, I find it doubtful that they would concede to reprimand and give up any semblance of power just like that. Perhaps I'm just reading too much into this as xian xia isn't really my thing in the first place. Well anyway on the whole the drama merits a 5/10 from me. Si Feng's devotion is seriously beyond human will and deserves a 10/10 though.
I knew what I was getting into since this is a xianxia but I'm a stubborn idiot so I watched this until the end. I just confirmed my dislikes about the genre. I really can't stand noble sacrifice themes and conflict built on misunderstandings. There was some basis for the misunderstandings since we have an active abuser moving about *cough cough* but imo it would be better if they spent less emphasis on the conflict aspect of the drama and the deprogramming aspect of all that abuse (oh god all the trials and tribulations are too terrible for the characters).
maybe you should make it a full on list ;p my biggest goal from this article is to get more people to notice there…
I would if I had your magical GIF skills :) Cliches can be great but we all have to admit that seeing it 1987321966542 times can get a lil boring, thus prompting us on an everlasting search for new shiny treasures :>>>
I kind of get what you're trying to say by the word strong. A character who is not the atypical damsel in distress surface level cutesy strong, but a multilayered human with agency in whatever story she lives in. It can sometimes feel like they're hard to find, but when they pop up they're real gems. Here's some shows that came to mind:
[Korean] Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung - Goo Hae Ryung. Never gives up her career and dreams for a sweet romance. (She has priorities!)
Queen Seondeok - comon Mishil is one of the best female villains out there. Not to mention the big 'showdown' is between two females in power.
History of the Salaryman - Baek Yeo Chi - fiery red head who grows from an impulsive spoiled brat to a ...more reformed brat out for revenge if I remember correctly.
Chief Kim - I remember the female characters here quite vividly.
[Chinese] Nirvana in Fire - Honestly any of the female characters in there.
Joy of Life - Imo quite centered on the male characters but there's a freakin female emperor in the show (only appears towards the end though).
Yanxi Palace -Wei Ying Luo - this girl is no-nonsense an eye for an eye kind of person. She is a silver-tongued powerhouse who manages to be cute at the same time. Idk how she does it lol. The show follows her rise to power within the inner palace. The women portrayed in this show are quite realistic and have character despite living in a patriarchal society that silenced them.
Young Blood - Zhao Jian - Deadpan, witty, and skilled at martial arts. She joined a spy agency to avoid marriage. There's often a battle of smarts and brawn when she's around.
Eternal Love - super popular I know but Bai Qian is pretty refreshing. She kind of has a snobbish aura that I like (lol), and she does not hesitate to draw lines with people.
Ok, the list grew too much as I was writing it. I'll stop here. Not to hate on any one genre, but I think generally, once you stray from the "typical mainstream romance", you begin to find more varied and interesting characters.
Which episode are you at? The first misunderstanding is when XJ thought she liked MY, that misunderstanding will…
Yea I was on ep 8 or 9 or 10 or something. Once it got resolved, it was all good again. Thanks for the heads up on 37-47. Oh god 10 hours of suffering. I shall have my fast forward button ready. Any other small annoying misunderstandings? How frequent are they and how quickly do they get resolved?
