This drama was a nice throwback to all my childhood wuxia in the 90s-early 2000s. Although erratically paced, and simplistic imho in terms of wuxia politics and court politics, it still managed to win my heart because of the wonderful side characters. This is my first time watching Alan, and I am of the opinion he's a stiff and awkward actor, but meh his character didn't irk me so that was fine. On the other hand, there were characters with little to like (cough HuaYao princess cough cough) and overall little to no character development ( yes the princess, also FL). I can understand the princess's behavior because of her upbringing...I mean its big bad guy who brought her up but man she was unbearable to watch most of the time. Then suddenly they're a loving couple in the last few episodes. ???? What happened? If there's change it needs to make sense...but she had not one iota of character development so the princess really had nothing to give to the storyline but our collective hatred for her.
At episode 6 and loving this so far. Ep 1 was somewhat awkward, but it gets better as it carries on. ML was cringe for me at first but he's growing on me. I love how he's constantly questioning his sexuality ( how did this not get censored lol - especially ep 6 ~23:42 mark)? I know they're framing it as he's actually straight bc he dreams of FL in a feminine presentation, but ~23:42 clearly he's come to terms even if the FL were male. It's quite interesting and refreshing actually.

As a person with ADHD who grew up watching Chinese dramas I'd respectfully disagree. To me, it doesn't matter much about what the character names are since I bestow nicknames upon all the characters myself e.g. the dude with glasses. Even in shows like Three Kingdom where everyone looks about the same and there are 90+ characters, and 80+ or 90+ episodes and I just keep watching. I tend to hyper-focus and enjoy plots with power struggles, politics, etc. so yes, I do bother to watch these.
Of course, I am one person in a spectrum of many, so it's different for every person. For me, I don't like the idea of being limited just because my brain works differently. This applies to everything, but I suggest trying and seeing if something is to their taste instead of being dismissive based on a disorder we are born with.
Just finished watching this. Love Zhao Jian's char - an assertive female without tomboy clothes/ crossdressing? So refreshing. I'm not a big fan of espionage type stories so this show took me an eternity to finish but the section 7 friendship was GOALS.
Looking forward to a possible second season & someone pls slap that Miqin Mubei. There are limits you know. To respecting someone's answer when they refuse you. (cough)
I need a Min Su x Ji Heng spin-off man. Man, I was :( the whole time during ep 8 and I was esp :/ when they gave the poor excuse of a brother a justification that he 'misunderstood' Min Su who actually had romantic feelings for him. If we think about it though the 2nd prince makes the most sense. I guess I was being pretty vague haha. I meant execution of events (telling of the story) , actions / decisions characters made, character development, etc. And I do speak chinese so no worries haha. Wow you sure do read a lot of languages. I worked once at a translation company so I understand very well the difficulty of translation and conveying meaning. Direct translation is so difficult from language to language! That being said, I am just a very critical person, so don't take me too seriously. I can rate things 5/10 but still enjoy it very much. The Untamed was awesome. Liked it wayyyy more than Eternal Love, the drama I watched before this (don't kill me y'all).
Finished this one quick. The plot, in general, is somewhere above average- it brings up interesting themes and is pretty messed up at times (in a good way ). There are some dramatic plot moments that I disliked but it didn't really detract from the experience much. I saw it pretty much as a character-driven story & yes the main couple is cute af.
Should I watch this? I typically like themes such as history, politics, warfare, psychological, horror etc. Can't stand jealously and drama for the sake of drama. Cute romance is OK. But if it's good enough I can be watching anything.
